Halo 2 Playlist Update & Stat Reset
Tonight is the night for the long awaited Halo 2 Xbox Live Matchmaking Playlist update and ranking reset. Tombstone and Desolation will be required for some of the playlists and if you purchased them before Monday, 5/7, you will need to download them again before you can play online. Both maps will become free in early July.

Personally, and i think i speak for a large demographic here, I'm tired of having to, for lack of a better word, suffer from Bungie's mistakes. I had to wait 4 weeks until i even had the opportunity to get the new maps, which i was charged for twice, then not refunded for one. we had to download them again today, and this among other incidents all in a service we already pay for, and then some. I understand things malfunction but when you pay someone and monitor and are getting money for these things i just don't think every month is acceptable, if nothing else these maps should've been free as consolation. Thats all that should have happened i don't think that seven million unique users should have to retrieve their ranks back. Which for some, have taken months to fairly acquire. all of that wiped away from a service they paid for and an additional feature which we also paid for, and in many cases paid for multiple times

WTF??? how could they unrank rumble pit......I really hope they make it ranked again....a lot of ppl still play it too, I never have trouble finding a game anytime day or night....COME ON BUNGIE.....RANKED RUMBLE PIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Need to swing the banhammer a bit around here. The -blam!-ing in this thread it more than on Major's Blog. Jees. Pesonally, the fact that they'll be made free in JULY is fantastic news! Previously there was no word of them EVER being free, much less than them being free in 2 months. Much quicker turn around than the last map pack to being free (i suppose it has to be with the decreasing player count) and Halo 2 remains the example that other games should follow in this regard. Which means the matchmaking community will be segregated for only a short while, much less time than Gear's september free release for their map pack. I thank yee Bungie.

Now why did you go and remove btb Skirmish, now its just Big team Battle unranked and people freaken quit constantly, there was no point in these updates I would say, if you just reseted the ranks and made the playlists require the maps and blah blah I think there would not be so much complaining among this topic and halo players. Now there are less games to play and halo 3 is so far away and I can't even pre-order it because its out of stock and its not even in stock yet. This is going to make halo2 less fun and I think thats the point to make more people "buy" halo 3. IMO

I totally agree with you on this. The new playlist is the worst I've seen since Halo 2 went Xbox Live. Someone needs to do something about this. Now I don't even feel excited about playing rumble pit. I hope everyone that doesn't like the new playlist sends Bungie feedback on this and tell them to bring back ranked rumble pit.

Quarem, Good post, rational, logical and implementable. We're not all 11 year old Americans playing on Daddy's credit card - You have affected a broad customer base with this implementation and in future I suggest a little bit of risk/swot analysis before pushing live. What I don't understand is this: given all the problems didnt Bungie have a failsafe scheme? Surely a simple 'rollback' to the previous matchmaking would have solved this entire debacle till problems with the new maps were ironed out in a preproduction environment. Well its about freaking time. and what the hell is this about rumble pit being unranked?!?!? I love it, but there's hardly a point to playing it now that it's unranked. Why can't we keep rumble training and keep rumble pit ranked?? i mean WTF!

This Is BullShnizz, I've loaded up six games since the "new maps" have been released and I haven't gotten one new map yet! I keep playing unranked and F@$king beaver creek pulls up twice, gemini once, sanctuary etc. what the He77? what did I pay money for? come on now! at least make the new maps much more frequent until the Beta comes out and only the hardcore losers who can't afford a 360 will be playing Halo2 then change it back to the old "new" maps but increase the frequency of the phantom new maps N O W ! ! ! ! As a long time Halo 2 player I am not happy with the current situation. With the new maps Bungie has effectively forced me to purchase the new maps for $4 to maintain the functionality that has been in Halo 2 since the game was released. As an Xbox Live Gold Member I am already paying an annual fee to play Halo 2 online. Now I have to pay an extra $4 to maintain my current online functionality. This is not acceptable. I understand that new content has to paid for. It is unfortunate that the current business model on Xbox Live involves charging customers for the vast majority of extra game content (especially on-top of the annual fee, and initial game costs). Charging for content divides the player base, which is ultimately bad for the Halo 2 online community since it limits the player pool for the playlists. Ideally a different model, perhaps ad-based, would cover the costs of development with the benefit that the content would be free to everyone. But I digress. Bungie chose to give players something more, which I believe was a good thing. They also had to determine how to satisfy players that bought the content with playlists to play in, while at the same time not completely preventing players without the premium content from playing in matchmaking. Despite the fact that I feel that the current situation is unacceptable, I can understand that this was a lose/lose situation for Bungie. Either they could ignore players' desire for new maps (lose), or divide the player base and remove functionality from players, like myself, that chose not to pay (lose). Ultimately I would like to see Xbox Live support a completely ad-based model for premium content that would make it available to all members. Such a model does not seem to be on the horizon, so I believe Bungie should consider implementing technology that would allow them to implement new, for-pay, maps into playlists without blocking players without that content from playing. I have all but two of the maps for Halo 2 there is no technical limitation that should prevent the match-making system from selecting one of maps I have when I want to play Team Slayer, or Team SWAT. While I do not expect such a feature to be available for Halo 2, Bungie should implement such a solution in Halo 3 so that new maps are not divisive to the Halo 3 player base, or a barrier to entry for any of the match-making playlists.

Ok, so I just confirm with my bank that I was charged TWICE.... this is really a let down that I have to call up xbox live support to figure this out after Bungie has repeatedly stated that we wont be charged twice. Here is what I did: Downloaded the map pack on 4/19 on my 360 that my Gold account is on, got charged $4 Downloaded the re-release on 5/9 on the same 360, got charged another $4 waiting on hold (20 min now) for this to be fixed now.... I have to admit that I am really let down that Bungie had to re-release the maps to fix some stupid geometry problems. I hope they fixed a gernade issue I ran into on tombstone as well. I had 3 plasmas but couldn't pick up a fourth for some reason.

effed up matchmaking ftw. i entered team snipers and got put into team training. then the next game i entered team snipes again and the other team had guests on it. >_< actually effed up MM is pretty fun though. BUNGIE I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.This has to be the best playlist ever,keeping the casual player happy with games like team slayer,yet still keeping the hardcore players happy with team hardcore.Makeing FFA unranked is pure guinness(and long over due)everyone should know that true skill comes from team based games 'CAUSE FFA IS RANDOM AT HIGH LEVEL PLAY!

Just wondering I don't understand why they removed Rumble pit. It was the only game that you could go into and not worry about having someone bad on your team or a loser that deranks. Personally i was good at it and i really enjoyed it. Now its pointless to play it, if i wanted to play unranked there was rumble training. I'm just very dissapointed.
