How a Bully Saved my Life

I used to be a pretty nerdy kid back in high school. I was into playing video games and not sports, not working out, dressing poorly and being awkward and shy around girls. Being hopeless like this of course a bully took notice of me and began to harass me. He would call me names and shove me down and push me around. It was like torture. Anyway I got tired of his crap so I started working out, flirting with girls, getting into sports, and improving the quality of my life a ton. I began to finally live life and if not for that bully I would still probably a skinny nerd playing video games all day. I am glad that bully entered my life. I know bullies get a lot of hate in the media when they say "oh they are killing our children" when bullies are just a normal part of life and growing up and facing adversity. So I just wanted to put a positive spin on bullying and how it builds character and toughness.

Well done OP.
And somehow he feels proud. Weird huh? It's almost like the challenges he faced and conquered built self esteem.
What? No. If he conquered the bully, he wouldn't have fundamentally changed himself because someone picked on him. He would have stood up to the bully, sure, but he would also have stayed true to who he was rather than playing sports just because some guy made him feel inferior for not playing sports. He gave in. Plain and simple. This is all, of course, assuming that the OP was purely motivated to enact such a drastic lifestyle change because of one bully, which seems unlikely. I'm sure there were other factors at play. You don't have to play sports to become a formidable individual. You don't have to stop playing video games either. (Since this is Bungie.net, though, I'm willing to bet OP never stopped playing video games. He's probably just too scared to admit it publicly.) Be yourself, don't let people give you a hard time about it. Bam. Confidence. That's literally all you need. Working out is good because it's healthy and it makes you physically stronger. It's got nothing to do with confidence. (It will boost self-esteem in the short term, but that's different.) This thread isn't even about working out but since it got so much attention earlier, I felt like addressing it here. Confidence. You don't need to cave to a bully. You don't need to become the bully. OP gave into a dick probably because he figured, "Well, I'm getting picked on and this other guy isn't, so let me be just like this other guy and I guess people will stop picking on me."
In other words OP is a little -blam!-.
