...that they feel less safe if they can't have assault rifles and armor piercing rounds?
Literally no other country (western & industrialized) has citizens so terrified of their government that they arm themselves against it. I am an American and I don't get it. We live in a wealthy, stable country. Why should we be prepared for its eventual upheaval?
No other Western Industrialized nation has this as a mentality.

1 ReplyThe US was kind of founded on fear of government.

2 RepliesProbly something related to how you teach the origins of your independence. Evil tyrannical britfags and all that

3 RepliesI don't think that's the common argument against the assault rifle ban. Also, look at Ireland. There's one example of a western nation who wants to arm themselves.

Because we come from a history of having to fight government for freedom.

10 RepliesEdited by Recon Number 54: 1/18/2013 12:21:21 AMPssst. AP ammo is illegal. I wouldn't want it. Assault rifles (with select of burst or full) are also not commonplace or really what your typical firearm owner wants, has, or uses. I wouldn't waste the money on one. But a AR-15 semi chambered in .223/5.56 that has good ergonomic controls so that the operator is able to control the weapon, put/keep it on target and properly/reliably/safely fire the rifle only when they make the decision to fire? That's the point and why there is no difference (functionally) between this ranch rifle and this so-called "evil gun". They both have MORE in common with each other than they do with the Military M-16 which IS an assault rifle and is NOT easily obtained (or wanted) by civilians. The two shown BOTH fire the same bullet at the same rate (one shot per trigger pull) -vs- the M-16 which can fire once per, 3 times per, and in some instances, empty the mag with 1 trigger pull Seriously? If you don't know or understand the details, learn from the media that doesn't understand video games and stop trying to act like you know something when you don't. Yes, you have a right to an opinion, but you really, no REALLY would be better of with an INFORMED one rather than assuming that you have a grasp of the facts, details or even know what you are talking about or using to support your position. Charlie, if you are "sick of the debate" (which is what you entitled an earlier topic) then you need to understand the debate and not cloud it with misconceptions and inaccuracies.

Edited by OaklandPaintbalr: 1/18/2013 2:39:25 AMWhy do Americans fear their government so much that they feel less safe if they can't have assault rifles and armor piercing rounds? Because the future is uncertain. Our constitutional democratic republic may not exist in 10 years.

When a Democrat is in power the Repubs get scared. Which is weird since the Republicans are the ones who always increase militarization while in the White House, and who do you think is going to take your guns if a new world order were to try to be imposed? The military.

Why do so many non-Americans like to act as if all Americans have the same opinions? Fixed title: "Why do some Americans fear their government so much..."
-
3 RepliesI think it is more of an intense hatred, not a fear to most people.
-
3 RepliesBecause our Government has actively detained and imprisoned a whole group of people before. Yet there was no outcry because people saw it as, "For the greater good"

11 RepliesEdited by OaklandPaintbalr: 1/18/2013 1:26:08 AMNow that I think about charlie, I think I can answer your question. I'm a dual swedish-american citizen. I've had the opportunity to experience both American and European culture, and now that I think about it, I can see that Americans are far more independent than most Europeans. Americans would rather trust themselves than be dependent on others. Back in Sweden, there was a heavy group mentality, that we pull through everything together. It's very different here in the USA, where we place value on being individualistic. Americans don't like being dependent, and we especially hate being dependent on authority. It's why welfare is often frowned upon. What does American individuality have to do with guns? I think Americans want that assurance that they will be independent. That they will always have 100% control of their life. The only assurance against that is the ability to use force; words won't stop looters after the next devastating earthquake, or a tyrannical government some 100 years in the future; only force can do that. Guns provide that assurance.

A house divided cannot stand. This nation has willingly politically divided itself right down the middle, which does not seem like it can end well.

9 RepliesWhen America was founded, we were given the right to be armed to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government should one arise, and with the government trying to limit our rights and minimize gun ownership, now is the time for gun owners to stand together against them. When Obama tells you that you do not need an "assault weapon", although he has no idea what an assault weapon is, is when you need one.

I agree. And a lot of us just laugh when we hear you guys saying things along the lines of "hey lets give teachers gun, that may stop school shootings". It's idiotic, also no one needs military grade weapons where the only purpose of it is to kill other human beings quickly. That should only be in the hands of a trained soldiers. Oh and let me just add, if you guys ever do try to take over your own government. Other countries might see it fit to intervene or go for a land grab while you're all caught up with yourselves. I know that it's not likely but it could happen just a thought.
