Why does 343GS kill johnson if there's more then one Ark?

I know that Johnson wanted to destroy the Halo and the Ark, and destroying the Ark pissed GS off, but why did Guilty Spark kill him if there's also the Greater Ark somewhere else? Is it simply because Spark didn't know about the Greater Ark? Was the Greater Ark lost? Or did 343i decide not fix anything in that cutscene when they created the Greater Ark?

 •
Posted by: crazyfoomandude The reason I said what I did is simply because I remember being on the Waypoint forums and I literally could not go into the universe forums because of you. You were just too irritating. I wasn't alone in this thought about you, but I'm not going to call anybody out here. I've seen you generally act like a pompous know-it-all, and treat people who don't know very much as beneath you. I even tried to make amends, but you threw that in my face. I asked what are you doing on Bungie.net because I figured you were a Waypoint-goer. And generally, "what are you doing here" is generally a hello. Depends on how you look at it.
Well if you were posting stupid ideas then i'll take that as a compliment, nothing has changed "I Mendicant Bias" is the last post for majority of the threads still. I personally don't care if people don't like me on an internet forum as the content i post is important not my character. No, The children at waypoint elevate me to that status. Nobody on bungie has ever sent me hate mail and i am generally well recived with people i Haven't gotten along with, wolverfrog is the main example. Um, i am assuming you are that kid that was trying to make me apologize for something and while expecting me to apologize was saying extremely rude things? Because i was completely fine with neutral grounds until you started saying whatever you did. This seems to be a personal issue you have with me instead of a community one. If you actually want to have a discussion about me you are free to message. I have always preferred bungie because of how the children act on waypoint. I was forced to go there because of the receding discussions here.

 • It wasn't that he wanted to destroy them, he just wanted to fire the ring which would end up in the destruction of the ring and Ark. Basically think of it like this: Say you are in school and you own an Ipad and Ipod touch. This jerk comes up and gets ready to throw the Ipod on the ground. Now do you stop him from destroying your expensive hardware, or do you let him go because you have an Ipad anyways?

 • I love how you talk about "know i am a jerk" but look at the remarks you are posting and look at mine. A double standard that is common on waypoint as i don't act any differently than i do here. Sorry that i encourage speculating actual ideas than just random speculation. What do you mean "what are you doing on bungie"? I have been on bungie for like 6 years now. So what are you asking?

It's a new thing made by 343 in the last year or so.
But you do see how the concept's for the Ark were far bigger originally right? That might be where 343I got the Idea from along with being able to further explain the ark. • He didn't know about the other Ark. "Compartmentalization, in the event I was ever captured by the Flood." To paraphrase, can't remember his exact quote.

 • Johnson survived using the power of space hugz, If you were to read the halo ce manual(yes it had a full color manual with back-story) you would know about the fall of reach, not to mention my previous statement about the games taking precedence anyway meaning I can cite Halsey's journal about the events prior to reach(harvest)), It's obvious that John could have easily made it back to earth with his longsword. I don't need to know the specifics(aka the full story isn't necessary and was mostly filler and unimportant), if the elites didn't join with humanity the galaxy would have been wiped out. Not to mention in halo 2 it makes it abundantly clear that elites were already beginning to rebel and question the prophets word and at the end all of them split off from the covenant. All of the halo games made it clear that the covenant were a fanatical religious group who viewed humanity as a threat to their religion. Halo 2 showed us the "prophets" who led them. You can easily see why Truth wanted to destroy humanity by looking at current events and historical events. If we were to discover an alien race tomorrow all of earths religions would be in an uproar. Truth was just another fanatical religious zealot. It's pretty easy to understand. One can only assume that the covenant learned about earths location from trial and error or from data collected on the pillar of autumn(Cole protocol argument doesn't work here, because 343guilty spark acquired a huge collection of human history in halo ce during the level the maw. There is dialogue in game. If he could get it then the covenant could too since there were covenant spec ops aboard the ship. I'll use the same argument for halo 3 as I did with C.E. in the fact that it doesn't really matter how everyone got to earth. It's unnecessary story on the same level as fan fiction to me. All I know is that chief fell from the sky and survived. Johnson and the Arbiter teamed up during halo 2. The fact that they are all on Earth is easy to explain as well. The fight wasn't finished there. The covenant were digging something up and needed to be stopped. Now to answer how Johnson survived...are you ready? We don't know if Johnson was on the ring or not when the pillar of autumn blew up. If you accept the legendary ending as canon then hes dead. If not then he's still likely dead from the flood. Either way I don't think that the "sgt johnson" we had on halo was "sgt johnson". The most likely explanation for this discrepancy is the limitations of the console at the time. Bungie couldn't have put in an infinite army of randomly generated npc characters. There had to be some that would be re-used. The sgt johnson npc was one of those. Sgt Johnson as we know him didn't exist until halo 2. Period.

 •
Posted by: Mister Rollback The biggest complaint I have about the bungie forums nowadays is how everyone picks apart the fiction portrayed in the games and says "it wouldn't be like this because of teh books!1!1!" In the grand scheme of things canonically games>movies(forward unto dawn)>books>fan fiction Please realize this and stop posting threads like this.
Er... The books, and all other media, has always been essential to the games, and have been the primary method of developing this particular universe. You do realise the order of precedence only comes into it when there's a DISCREPANCY, right? That's it, that's all there is to it - and it has been practically done away with in the Reclaimer Trilogy because everything is connected. The novels always have and always will be essential to the full understanding of the games. And don't anyone start talking about needing to read novels to understand the game. Without citing Contact Harvest, tell me Truth's motivation for wanting to destroy humanity. Without citing Uprising, tell me about what happened between Halo 2 and 3 that led to Johnson, Thel and the Chief ending up on Earth. Without citing Ghosts of Onyx, tell me why it was necessary for the Elites to join with humanity after Halo 2. Without citing The Fall of Reach, tell me what happened before Halo CE before Wars and Reach were released 8/9 years later. Without citing First Strike, tell me how Johnson survived, how John made it back to Earth, and how the Covenant discovered its location and arrived with so few ships. • 343GS was more concerned with the fact that an installation under his control (04B) would be destroyed again (as well as the Ark) as a result of a premature firing to destroy the Flood and Gravemind on the Ark. Because Johnson was about to activate the Halo and Spark was already angered (and showing possible signs of rampancy), he acted in a way that would have been befitting of his protocols while subduing the threat as quickly as possible. One can assume that Spark would have had very limited knowledge of the Greater Ark, as he had very limited knowledge of all of the other installations.

 • His protocol is to see that no damage is done to the Installations, ESPECIALLY his own. Whether or not he knew there was a Greater Ark, the Lesser one was still under threat of destruction and he felt a renewed sense of purpose that his Ring was being rebuilt - which he'd lose if it was destroyed again.
