Crap your dog's been through?

Has your dog ever come close to death? Once long ago (3 years) my boxer, Max got into a fight with 3 stray pitbulls in the neighborhood. I don't know what provoked them to attack him, but they did. Luckily Max is pretty tough. He scared off 2 of the pitbulls and kept rumbling with another. It ripped at his mug and neck. We couldn't do much because both of the dogs were fighting ferociously. Miraculously, poor Max pinned the remaining pitbull. Both of them bleeding and breathing hard. We finally got the opportunity to tear the dogs apart. We called the sheriff and he came, this part you may not like but here I go. Btw, I didn't see this part, I was back at the house attending to Max. Anyways, the sheriff came and went to the neighbor's house who had the pitbull, the pitbull charged at the man and was quickly shot and put down by his weapon. Max was torn up for the next few months, he's usually a very crazy and restless dog, but I guess the whole dilemma gave him depression. Luckily we got him patched up after a while and he returned to his normal self. I'll have to find a picture of him to post sometime. And that's the story, have your dogs ever had a close brush with death? • My old dog Meg fought three large coyotes at once... and won. She was like a walking tank... except she was an 85 pound Border Collie.

 • I've never owned a dog. The closest any pets of mine have come close to danger is when a crow fell down our chimney and landed in our rabbits corner of the room, and started flapping its wings around. Luckily my rabbit doesn't take no -blam!- and chased it away.

 • My two current dogs have had a good life, but my previous ones have been different. Our Pomeranian died about 8 years ago, he lived his whole life with a whole in his heart. Our Golden Lab lived to a good age of 16, survived mosquito diseases and paralysis ticks (we tried our best to keep him clean, but it's so hard to find or make sure there is none there at all), eventually his hind legs were giving way, and on the one day of the week I had to work, my parents had him put down, they were as hesitant as me. Maybe me being gone was for the best. Had a Jack-Russell cross foxie Terrier, cute little thing, caused havoc around the garden so my parents gave her away, a few months later she was found almost dead on a highway two hundred km away from where her new owners lived, luckily a vet found her, and she has been living happily to this day. And lastly are my two Sausage Dogs one lived with our Lab for many years, and eventually dug under the fence on the garbage collection day, and was run down by the garbage truck. He's probably the reason why I want to be a vet, and the only reason why I don't cringe at the sight of body parts. The other sausage dog was to act as companion to the Lab, though after a couple of years and the deaths of a few chickens we gave him to an old lady, where he now lives, shacked up with a lady sausage dog. Our two current dogs are an English Staffy, who kept our Lab alive to his limit, and a Jack Russel cross Chihuahua who we took from a farmer, who was gunna drown it and it's 5 other siblings anyway. And through all that We've had one cat, A blue Burmese who can only see out of one eye, due to it being scratched out by one of its brothers during their infancy. She's seen it all, and she's currently sitting on my lap. Edit: Just noticed I've written a lot, apologises, didn't mean to go on that much. [Edited on 12.29.2012 5:27 AM PST]

 •
Posted by: K00laidkilla983 >Doesn't own dogs.
Then why bother posting here? OP: I don't recall any instances where my dogs were in danger, but they are both getting old, and I can tell they are "shutting down." For instance, we said my German Shepherd would forever be a puppy, but 13 years later that's getting hard to believe when he has difficulty walking up the steps.

 •
Posted by: Lancexlink Labs...:'[ Gotta love those dogs.
No doubt. In his younger days my chocolate lab of 13 years was hit by a car without injury and later faced arthritis alongside breathing problems. He was a trooper and a very loving dog.

 • My boxer and German Shepard Pitbull mix recently got in a fight while we were out of the house, and the Boxer got his ass kicked. We cared for him, and he's almost all healed up. A couple years earlier, the same German Shepard Pitbull was extremely close to dying. He was born blind, and for a while, he would shove his food down his throat as fast as he could, because he was worried about other dogs taking his food. One night, the food got stuck in his throat, and he didn't breathe for a good three minutes. According to my dad, his heart stopped for about 10 seconds. At that point, my dad shoved his hand into my dog's throat and cleared up the food.

 • When I was about 14 we had a jack russel that always used to tease the crap out of the neighbours blue heeler. One day the gate to their property was open and their dog ran out and gave our jack russel a little bit of a mauling. I heard him squealing and ran out and rescued him. I was so pissed off that I took a steel pipe and smashed up their mail box, metre box and some other stuff out the front of their house. Turned out the father of the family that lived there was a magistrate for the Childrens Court, but he was pretty cool about it. They had me round for a talk and gave me cookies. I ended up playing Red Alert all day with his son, although our families never became close. Our Jack Russel was taken to the vets and made a full recovery.

 • Once these two stray dogs tried to attack my dog, but he kicked their asses and I scared them off. He's a 40 kilo German Shepherd. Very powerful.

 • Nothing much really, other than both of them having a few bald spots on them due to the Mocking Birds nesting in my back yard.

 • Not much really, my dog Odie, had dug into my neighbor's yard awhile ago. Which was a bad idea, considering they had two pitts, who were not happy he was around. With quick thinking and navy seal training, he jumped into a pond and swam to the middle where they were to afraid to get him. He smelt like -blam!- but he was alive [Edited on 12.29.2012 3:13 AM PST]

 • I'll admit, laying on the couch all day and whining whenever he has to go on a walk is tough work. [Edited on 12.29.2012 2:57 AM PST]
