What do you consider a good parody thread?

'sup community, I've been banned quite a few times making parody threads, but I just can't resist the urge to make them. Sometimes I see a thread title, often ambiguous in interpretation and I feel like I just have to make a parody thread about it. It also occurs when I see the same thread being posted over and over again, such as girl advice threads or certain game mechanic removal threads. If I don't do it, it feels like the oppertunity has been wasted how should I deal with this? Also, what do you consider a good parody thread? And are you positive about them generally or are you 100% bungie forum rules to the core and report them on sight?

 •
Posted by: spartain ken 15
Posted by: Recon Number 54 Why not put a parodic reply into the OP that was "begging for it"? All that a parody title does is say "oh look, someone thinks that they're clever and we should notice". They don't cause/create/bring any real discussion, since the title alone (or a quick copy/edit/paste of someone else's OP) isn't the posters creation or has any reason to exist other than to mock another thread or clog up the main page with filler.
Why should parody thread be locked if it has valid discussion? I am not saying porch day threads, I mean something clever.
I think that was Recon's point. It's annoying to have parody threads that are just a parody of the title, but if the OP has discussion, along with a parodic "asking for it" line, then it should be aright.

 • The problem i think is that many have a hard time knowing what is a good parody thread. This means in light hearted humor in good taste. Commander uses these guidelines. This means not about other people groups or such tomfoolery. If you stick with some bungie kind of humor such as B.U.N.G.L.E. for example when they were still in charge of HALO. Then you have succeeded. Fictional persons or events should be used as this does not offend any one and increases said subject to be a Parody. Navigating into the realm of Non-fiction just is a reputation killer along with others taking a negative view on such. So proper thought should be used. If you question the validity of a thread do not post it, Thus saving you and others the grief.

 • If it makes me laugh, I think it's good. The mods probably don't agree.
Good point, I think I'm going to stick with this About bringing any real discussion: my main reason for creating a parody thread would be the first thread already lacking discussion value, because it is either repetitive (like advice threads) or completely biased and opinion based. Also it's my kind of parodic way of reflecting the respective board with the material they are currently discussing. I remember this guy making a thread about KFC abusing chickens (which was also the title). He used a youtube video as source. So I decided to make a thread called 'chicken abuses KFC' with this as source.

 • I like the ones that start out serious but then get ridiculously silly. Also I love the parody threads that are told from the other side of the story. For instance someone creates a thread about them spying on a girl then someone else makes a thread out some guy spying on her.

 • I tend to think of good parody threads and then decide against them before I hit "submit". Probably for the better. I'd rather get a kick out of stuff I'm not responsible for.

 • I made a lot when I first joined' I got a kick out of it.. I don't make them anymore because they're pointless. Some are quite funny though.

 • I think the best parody thread is the one that doesn't exist. I don't like them, they are annoying.

 •
Posted by: Make117 I don't know, my last parody thread was "everyone walking backwards should be banned" in the Reach forum. Didn't end well. Here, got 7 days for that.
Yes, these are the kind of threads I'm talking about. I really love them, I always await for someone else to make them, but if it doesn't happen I'll take task upon myself. I've made one myself that got me 3 days: thread . It was around the time the entire front page was filled with threads about removing Armor Lock and Sprint. I'm also quite fond of parody threads revolving around girl advice threads. There was one a few days ago about being beta I laughed really hard. [Edited on 12.26.2012 8:33 AM PST]

 • I love a good parody thread myself! I think especially in these times of darkness, they're a great way to come here and see the more lighthearted side of the community. From what I've seen, the mods will actually partake in a well constructed parody thread. "Guy to ban ppl" immediately comes to mind. It depends on the mod who is online at the time. Some don't care, some do. Where you went wrong is parodying other threads immediately. Those are often frowned upon, unfortunately.
