Bungie didn't develop Crimson

I've noticed there are a good number of people who are "dissapointed" in Bungie for making a supposedly crap game. See Exhibit A. Just in case you guys didn't get the memo, Harebrained Schemes, and not Bungie, developed Steam Pirates. Bungie is the publisher. So the game's quality really has nothing to do with Bungie.

 •
Posted by: konifuji ok,
May need to spell out your POV a little more, do you mean; - Ok!! it must be good because 'bungie didn't develop' (yay), or - Ok ?? everyone knows this so what is the OP's point?, or - Ok, BP Oil now have a solid excuse for the biggest oil spill in history - as (following the OPs logic) BP did not develop the rig, it was developed in 2001 in South Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries. (shame that all those lawyers and the american legal system didnt share the OP's opinion) Or did you have another kind of 'Ok' in mind?

 •
Posted by: gorocurt I don't care who developed it. I still enjoy it.
Its an OK game for something that took 12 weeks to develop. (and for the price - meh) And it was kinda a win-win-win for HBS, bungie and moai engine, in that it; - allowed HBS to trial run a new engine; - bungie got a game for its aerospace lanuch; - moai got a solid test of its engine. Although kinda telling that the bungie took more than it gave, the biggest tell is how HBS never returned to bungie with any of its subsequent games (same market, same style). Given that HBS was bungies ONE-AND-ONLY reference partner you would have expected them to do anything to have kept them ... or at least sourced another dev studio once the relationship started to hit the rocks. Hell paid 100% of the cost for another 12 week round. Did laugh at the double entendre of the OPs thread subject. "Bungie didn't develop Crimson" ... sure he meant as in "bungie didnt develop the code" ... but given bungie was the [cough] "publisher" you could also have reasonably read this to mean "bungie didnt develop the crimson brand though partnership management and marketing" ... things a publisher should be doing. In this the OP was right - lol.

 •
Posted by: AK Drummer 11 Wow. You know, GodLike One, I can see it's completely and utterly pointless to argue this with you. You contradict yourself, you claim I said things that I never did, and you just generally don't make sense.
Way to keep on topic with your own thread topic - not. Which part of my replies didnt make sense, perhaps I can break it down a little for you? I am guessing you couldnt find a single PR article (about HBS, not bungie) ... and thus have tried the 'attack the poster' approach - lol (feel free to prove me wrong by providing a few links)
Posted by: AK Drummer 11 Bungie sucks. Oh, they're just so bad.
Wow, a little harsh ... know bungie havn't delivered on the old areospace project - but 'sucks'? Dont think you would ever be able to link to a single post were I would use those words ... perhaps you could include that link together with the link to all that testing and PR bungie have been doing. Funny how you feel free to berate everyone else for getting it wrong ... for providing nothing to substantiate their claims ... and yet when asked to live by your own rules??? You attack other people for being trolls ... ironic, or just laughable?

 • Wow. You know, GodLike One, I can see it's completely and utterly pointless to argue this with you. You contradict yourself, you claim I said things that I never did, and you just generally don't make sense. I've seen plenty of your posts around the forums, and I can tell that all you are is a troll. You sit around all day whining and complaining about how much Bungie sucks. Oh, they're just so bad. Then why are you wasting time posting on this site every day? Who would stick around something they don't like? Well, obviously you. You're really doing something with your life. Really, you are.

 •
Posted by: AK Drummer 11 So the game's quality really has nothing to do with Bungie.
thats probably what they told 343i once they surrendered ownership of Halo to them (it's your game now! thus any complaints made become your responsibility) *runs away with bags of $$$*

 •
Posted by: AK Drummer 11 After reading that jumbled lump of words, I can see you don't get it. Harebrained didn't need money, or support, to make a good game. All they needed was creative talent.
I wasnt questioning HBS's quality ... you did (but given the 12 week development cycle - yeah). And you also said "the game's quality really has nothing to do with Bungie" ... but given bungies self publicity and willingness to try and take credit - shouldnt they also share at least some of the blame. They cant have it both ways.
Posted by: AK Drummer 11 I'm also curious as to how you came to the conclusion that Bungie didn't support Crimson. They gave PR's about it...
Ok, this PR support. Can you provide a link (or two, since you claim the plural) to some of this PR ... lets say anytime in the last 6 months (surely 'support' would include a post per month). Since you like to call out "evidence to the contrary" show us all a PR post within the last 6 months which is about Hairbrained Scheme's product (and not bungie self promotion).
Posted by: AK Drummer 11 ... and they probably tested the game and answered questions raised by the developer. They said that was a possibility on their Aerospace page, and you have no evidence to the contrary.
Well I guess YOU have evidence that they did test?? Again it was YOU who created this thread - YOU who tried to blame Hairbrained Schemes for any & all lack of quality in the game. Surely if you make the claim you shold also be prepared to back it up??
Posted by: AK Drummer 11 So you cannot say Bungie didn't try. If you didn't like the game, you only have Harebrained Schemes to blame ... Many projects are started with gusto and then quickly forgotten about as other burdens arrive, and reality hits once again. Like, for example, New Year's resolutions
Honestly ... so you are going to compare bungie promises "to our fan community" (exhibit c above), its attempt to game press coverage, its lodging of trademarks and patents ... You compare this effort to a "New Year's resolutions"?? And before you come here and attempt to blame HBS for everything you should research how Weisman did this as a favor for Parsons based on a long history ... now would YOU do this to a friend, let them (and their smaller company) take the fall for your projects failure? Kinda obvious that that Weisman was not impressed - went elsewhere for later game(s) funding and publishing ... not an endorsement for bungie. And if bungie are so great and blameless how come, in over 12 months, they couldn't attract a single other title?

 • After reading that jumbled lump of words, I can see you don't get it. Harebrained didn't need money, or support, to make a good game. All they needed was creative talent. Team Meat made a critical and commercial hit (Super Meat Boy) with only two employees, and no publisher. Their game was simply distributed onto gaming platforms along with other indie games, no fanfare along the way. I'm also curious as to how you came to the conclusion that Bungie didn't support Crimson. They gave PR's about it, they told their massive community about it, they distributed it on multiple platforms, and they probably tested the game and answered questions raised by the developer. They said that was a possibility on their Aerospace page, and you have no evidence to the contrary. So you cannot say Bungie didn't try. If you didn't like the game, you only have Harebrained Schemes to blame. However, I will admit that Bungie Aerospace seems to have fallen to the wayside, looking at the U.S. Trademark Office page. But, that happens. Many projects are started with gusto and then quickly forgotten about as other burdens arrive, and reality hits once again. Like, for example, New Year's resolutions, or Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label. They started it with the idea of it becoming a hit label, considering their reputation as the biggest band in the world, but after they signed their first artist, the label quickly took a backseat to the band's own career. I suspect the same has happened with Bungie.

 •
Posted by: AK Drummer 11 Bungie is the publisher. So the game's quality really has nothing to do with Bungie.
Could have left it at "quality really has nothing to do with Bungie". Saved bloating your post. But since you like Exhibits ... Exhibit B ... you may note bungies [false] promise to provide "QA/Testing & User Research" under the aerospace (aka waste-of-space) project, and as Steam Pirates was its flagship launch product (hell, only product - ever) you could conclude that this one game would have received 100% of that budget. And then there are the multiple press releases where bungie laments that lack of quality in the mobile space, and how bungie is here to save the world ... even (Exhibit C) here "Parsons didnt specify the business arrangements but said Bungie will support developers, providing services such as quality assurance, usability testing and exposure "to our fan community." (from paragraph 8) Ole stinky Pete is the boss, so if you cant believe him ... We all know bungie has shown a lack of commitment to this project (Exhibit D - Abandoned), but most believe that if you "say" you will do something that you at least follow that through ... not just blame a small startup for something that you said was covered. Thats just lame blame shifting.
