So today I saw a police officer parked in a yellow "no parking zone" But he wasn't responding to an emergency, He was at a 7-11 and he walked out with a big gulp.
He was abusing his status as a police officer. And this is how I am about to knock him down a level for it.
I live in Oregon. In Oregon it is a little known fact that you don't have to be a police officer, or a parking attendant to write someone a parking ticket. See ORS 153.058
Now back to the story. as the officer was coming out as soon as I saw that he was parked illegally I took a picture of him ( as he was coming out holding his big gulp, and of his car parked illegally. AND of him getting into his car.
This is all of the evidence that I need to issue him a citation.
I went on down to the police station and initiated the proceedings of filing the citation. Filled out his ticket, and took it down to the court house as per the instructions. At the courthouse I gave the nearly-finished ticket to the clerk who found an available court date. And then signed the ticket. And took an oath that the information was correct.
This police officer is now going to receive the ticket in the mail with his court date. I will also be going to this court date where I will be presenting the photographic evidence of his illegal parking. He will have no excuse.
tl;dr I wrote a police officer a ticket, and now he must appear in court.
UPDATE: 500 replies w00t, I will be posting the pictures AFTER the court date. Due to legal/security reasons.
Posted by: Aang the Avatar LOL at people attacking the OP for doing the right thing.
Very typical flood response. However police officers are still held to the same standards that citizens are. He was not responding to an emergency. Therefor his actions are in violation of the law.

Ok? Why should anybody care?

I would not recommend going to the court date and giving away your identity.
There is nothing that the police officer can do to me that isn't a further violation of the law. I am absolutely going to the court date to have him fined.
There is a whole arsenal that officer can do to you. Realize, he knows ways around certain laws and can enforce laws you more than likely don't even know about. A 20 dollar fine isn't worth giving away your identity. I promise you that.
Posted by: funkbrotha10
Posted by: Blocks and Fart Keep in mind this probably took a long time, and shows how pathetic the OP really is to waste his time like this trying to prove a point against the police for something incredibly minor. Truly pathetic.
It only took about 20 minutes. considering that the courthouse is not far from the police station. Whats pathetic is the clear misuse of his authority.
You act like he ran red lights and ran over someone at a cross walk. He parked illegally at a 711. Take the time to realize how sad it is that you went out of your way to write him a ticket for this. Again, a 711.
Posted by: Sgt monkey41 Wow going out of your way to -blam!- with someone who devotes their life to protect you. I hope you're happy.
Most police officers only do the work because it is an average career that isn't hard to get into. Not because they're willing to devote their life for someone they've never met. You give them too much credit.
Posted by: Sgt monkey41 Wow going out of your way to -blam!- with someone who devotes their life to protect you. I hope you're happy.
He parked illegally. Which is blatant misappropriation of his authority. Police officers are not exempt from the law. Had he been responding to an emergency I of course would not have wrote him the citation. But he was getting a soda from 7-11 [Edited on 11.17.2012 5:37 PM PST]

Isn't that a bit sad?
Posted by: Super PolarBear You showed him!
I sure did. He now has to take his personal time to appear in court and argue his case. Only thing is, he has no usable argument. If he does not appear in court he will fined.

Geez, OP. All this just because he parked in a "no parking zone"?
