• Well... Dimah died while trying to escape in one of them, so I would assume there are other Orbital Elevators. Different planets though.

To help them not fall toward the center of the earth.. It is possible for them to be built in London, they would just have to be built stronger and would cost a lot more.. And if something went wrong and began to fall apart more of it would fall back down onto the city... Where as if it was built on the equator the inertia would shoot the majority of it into space.
They are only near equator.
Urgh. That was meant to reply to the guy who said the where in London..:P Forgot to quote him.
I figured that. =P Just stating that space elevators aren't placed anywhere.

 • Yeah, and I believe every planet that we colonized has at least one.

 • FoD and ODST were on two different planets. Yes, there was more than one space tether/orbital elevator.

 • Orbital elevators are but mere tools. It's like asking if there is more than telescope (the huge ones). They seem majestic and "one of a kind" but they are more common than you think.

 •
Posted by: Wolverfrog Probably one in every mega-city, maybe more than one in major cities like London or Tokyo. Although maybe I'm wrong, maybe only one is needed.
No there are 7 Orbital elevators in earth alone all are close to the equator and thats a small number, reach had eleven and Harvest had even more, just about every human world had at least one, especialy the industrial/Mining/Farming ones.
