This should be treated as spam, if you cannot read any post regardless of length then you're really in the wrong place...
Agree or disagree?
-
What does it stand for?
-
I'm in full agreement with the OP. Posting a reply to a thread you didn't read, just to tell the OP you didn't read it, is completely pointless.
-
Seems to me that if someone posts TL;DR as a reply, they can't be overly interested in having a conversation with that user / poster. If you're not reading someone's post, you're disregarding their thoughts. Now if that's off the original post in the thread, then god knows what info you plan on continuing the thread with, aside from changing the topic to how important your time is I suppose. Ignoring the post is fine, but posting tl,dr is almost like spitting in their face and walking the other way is it not? [Edited on 10.11.2012 3:25 AM PDT]

if people are posting TL;DR in a serious manner then i think the OP should take the hint.
-
Well if you put a tl;dr in your post that would fix everything :D
-
Toughy. Sometimes i quote people and don't add anything as they've worded what i wanted to say beautifully. Sometimes i just say 'lol' to threads as i find them amusing. Sometimes i say 'no' because i disagree, but don't care to explain. I do not say 'TL;DR' because it literally means i "didn't read" the OP. Doesn't contribute to discussion, but neither do the three examples above, really. Difference is that 'TL;DR' holds as much ground as posting 'bump', which is indeed against the rules. While completely opposite, they do the same thing. Someone bumping a thread to the top with no rhyme or valid reason.

TL;DR should be considered spam, but I don't know it deserves a warning. And remember that not every long post is good. TL;DR could be a message to the OP to write better, shorter posts so that people won't lose interest. But of course, no-one takes it seriously because people who use it usually don't even try to read the OP.
Posted by: Ockeghem Look...Sometimes TL;DR needs to be said. There are plenty of times when members post ridiculously long topics that boil down to a simple point or opinion that could be communicated in a concise, yet complete, manner. Sometimes members just like the sound of their own voice (internet-typing-speaking wise), and should be reminded that just because they like typing it doesn't mean it is worth reading.
This. We do not need everyone writing novels on here... TL;DR are sometimes needed as a "Bro, that is more reading than I have done in a year, tone it down."
Posted by: IslocStarkiller If the reply reads only "tl;dr", then yes. However, if the "tl;dr" is followed by an on-topic response, then I do not think the reply should be treated as spam.
As long as they contribute to the topic it's all good.

I remember someone complaining about being warned/banned for posting "TL;DNR" in several threads. And I don't think I'm a long time member; although my memory is absolutely terrible... Anyway, I'd count it as a form of spam, as it is not constructive nor adds to the topic's discussion. It is only an insignificant observation about the length of an OP (and the writer's attention span). But it's understandable if moderators ignore it, as it doesn't really hurt either...

There is no need to forum cop. I agree that the post is not necessary, but it doesn't bother me if it follows a wall of text. This is a forum--people post their thoughts. If their thought is "this is way too long to read," then more power to them. What's wrong with just ignoring the "tl;dr" post, just like you expect them to ignore walls of text?
