Posted by: ALI217 is this a joke? Answer : He looks at the join date!!! lolololol.
Some users may join in 2010, but don't start getting community active into about 2012. So this would kind of make him a new user.

Do they have that new car smell?
-
They don't. The banhammer's wrath has no mercy.

After you have been here a while, you can just tell...usually... ~Delta

Post history, and nobody uses the default avatar. Oh...were you talking to forum ninjas? Be a little specific.

Take a look at some of his work: http://imgur.com/a/S1hSL#0 [Edited on 10.10.2012 4:50 PM PDT]

They put them both under the bridge and see which one complains.

If I was a Ninja I would have banned anyone who posted the stupid things I did when I first joined (I was a try-hard noob, it almost a parody it's so bad). So I guess they let one or two threads go but if they start building up then they issue a warning (that will shake up new members, but not trolls). Join date... And trolls usually fail anyway so they're compromised within the first 4 posts.
-
What's the need to tell the difference? Rules are rules, if they're broken they get warned/banned.
-
Generally the first thing that comes to a new user's mind to post isn't flamebait/controversial topics.
-
Users really don't matter in the grand scheme of moderating. What matters is the severity of the rule infringement and what can be done accordingly.
-
It isn't THAT hard to tell
Posted by: Frapican I'm assuming that they would check the user's post history, join date, past offenses, and linked gamertag to determine if the user is a troll or just a new member. If they can't figure it out, they could always warn the user as a future reference for such behavoir.
Good assumption, especially for a relatively new member... Basically, don't worry about it until the user makes a mistake, and then judge them accordingly.
