In Asian countries like China and Korea, there are places with many computers available for use, locally called "PC Bangs." These places are not the same as Internet cafes. In PC Bangs, the computers have powerful hardware built for gaming.
Are there places like this in the United States? I often use computers at the library, but there's always one issue or another (ranging from laggy framerate one day to not being able to load a game at all on another day).

Yeah, we have some here. I live in a rural area, so it's used mostly by people without access to gaming computers.
-
Probably a PC cafe? I live in Canada and there are a few smaller sized PC Lan centers around where I live.

I've been to several Internet cafes and have found that the computers there aren't really that powerful.
There's this local computer place that fixes computers. They also have about three rows of alien hardware computers built for gaming.
While it's pretty impressive that they were able to get their hands on alien technology, it is quite pathetic that they decided to use it to offer free gaming to the public instead of curing world hunger or something.

I know of a console version of what you just said that is about 20 minutes away.
-
I think there are two near by where I am, if you mean places that you can go to and play games over LAN.
Posted by: This is a person Are there places like this in the United States? -
There used to be one by me, about 2 miles away, but it closed down, since it was in an area no one went.
Posted by: UphillMercury I've got one about twenty minutes away from my house, though I live in Canada, so that doesn't help you much.
Really? Whereabouts?

My mom owns a store about 100 feet away from it. (It's a shopping centre). It looks like a waste of an investment to me.

Yeah, there is, but they're rare. There's a retro game store has has three high end pcs that have BD drives and that can play today's games like BattleField 3. It's usable to the public, but it costs $30 for one hour of playing. Gets expensive for a while. Not really worth it. [Edited on 10.09.2012 4:45 PM PDT]

There used to be. I remember seeing them in the malls. Come to think of it, I haven't seen them in a while...
Posted by: DanielxAK They're pretty rare anymore. The city I lived in most of my life only had one or two which would last a couple years at the most before going out of business. They were fun, but got pretty expensive in the long run.
Yeah, there was a gaming cafe(probably the closest you'll get to a PC bang here) near my university, but it was not at all successful. Internet cafes? Libraries?

mfw I understand the why it is called PC Bang (room in Korean) from mah knowledge. Feels good. My Asian friends would go to internet cafes, dunno if we have PC bangs here.
-
I think most people play on home computers in the states.
-
Not that I know of. I kind of assume everyone has access to a computer here in the states, whether it be on the job or at school. I don't see any real use for place like that here.
-
Yes, i've seen some. I don't go to them though.
-
Not really.
-
Around me? I think there's one about 20 miles from me. That's the only one I know about.
