There was a lot of hype for this movie, and some people have said they loved it. A lot of others are saying it's a total travesty and Ridley Scott needs to retire immediately.
So is it worth seeing? Are there any other overhyped movies I should or shouldn't avoid?
Posted by: SweetTRIX I really enjoyed it, but if you're a big Alien fan do not see it thinking it is a prequal to the Alien franchise, it will just piss you off.
I'm not a super Alien fanboy, but I've seen most of the movies.

Beautiful presentation, and an intriguing story that doesn't quite answer the questions it poses. I feel it was a solid movie. I bought it on blu ray first day, and it has to be said that the 'making of' documentary is incredible. It breaks down the movie very thoroughly - going through all levels of production - and provides clarity on the movie's subject matter. They've said there will be a sequel that will provide answers, didn't they? [Edited on 10.09.2012 4:09 PM PDT]

They are planning on making a sequel, but this one wouldn't be a direct tie to the original alien movies. They'd have to make a third and have it as the 'Prometheus trilogy'. The last one would link directly to the original Alien. That's what I've read they have thought of doing.
Posted by: Eat More Babies
Posted by: Dont pass gass
Posted by: CubsBlow2 Its worth seeing I guess. But too me it was just a reboot of Alien.
... What? They only saw the alien once? And that was at the end of the movie.
And it was a prequel... wasn't it?
No not really. I doesn't really connect to Alien at all.

I've toyed with the idea of buying it. I have yet to see it.

It won't be out earlier than 2014, and it would follow Noomi to the Engineers homeworld and whatever happened there. That would answer a lot of questions, and then they would make a sequel to this one which would tie in with the original Alien.

That depends on what you want out of the movie. If you are expecting a Alien prequel or to have your questions answered from the first movie you will probably be disappointed in it. Its best to view the movie as itself and not so much the films before it. Besides that though the movie did have a few flaws too and the movies expects you to fill in the questions yourself but I still really enjoyed the movie because of the outstanding visuals, it had some good main characters, the movie was well paced and the atmosphere was engrossing. So in short I would say at least rent it and see if you like it or not.

So much wasted potential. I've heard of bits of the original script which seemed interesting. It was actually more of a full on Alien prequel than the one released.

It was good, one of the better movies of the year. Just don't go into it thinking you are going to get a movie exactly like Alien.

I enjoyed it. I don't understand why people hated it as strongly as they did. I may be biased due to Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapapace being incredibly attractive people though.

The DVD came out today, planning to watch it soon.

It was ok in my opinion. Not great, not bad. Just ok.
-
I thought it was great, the blu-ray with all the "deleted" key scenes is going to be well better. I think people were flaming it too harshly like most sci-fi's nowadays.
Well then its a spiritual successor or should I say precursor? The xenomorph was at the end, as well as the space jockey, that we now know as engineers, we saw throughout the movie. There is a connection but it doesn't go nearly as deep as people are thinking. [Edited on 10.09.2012 6:53 PM PDT]
Posted by: dahuterschuter It's worth it for the visuals, not much else.
I don't see the hate on it. I saw it at the theaters and I loved it.

It's fun to watch. Kind of a one time only thing though. No reason to see it again.
-
I had no impressions of it going in, and after watching it, I was kinda disappointed with the whole affair. Having the mystery of what was that spaceship and the Jockey on the L-2345wtfever explained really just killed it. That mystery is what drove the Alien franchise.

Everyone dies in the end except for the girl.
