How do you play the game on the harder settings? What works and what tends to fail in your experience?
Personally...
Approaching a group of enemies equipped with a Magnum and SMG I start with taking out all of the grunts while remaining behind cover trying to avoid the larger enemies. Then I work my way around the larger enemies making it to where I can 1vs1 them with weapons... or if I decide to use grenades I'll try to drive them closer to each other.
However the way I'm playing seems rather campy and I feel as if there may be a faster and more effective way in approaching a situation that I may simply not be realizing. So basically... what are weaknesses of the enemies and how do we exploit them in the most effective way in your opinion?

Noob combo works for me in all situations except against drones and hunters.

Particularly in Firefight. They just magically know I'm closing in...
Wait for them to come to you. Only do so if its the animation where they swing their hammer to the side, not above their heads.

Just run for it. The game is kind of a walk in the park though. Kind of. The last level is super hard, but beatable.
-
Yep! Stealth is the key. One backstab at time can clear out an entire group and If anything survives, well... you still got your guns!
-
I ninja everything. Everything. I'm honestly surprised every now and then at how many assassination kills I get. The rest of the time I'm generaly poping in and out of cover to take a quick headshot at some thing. The biggest exeptions are sheilded brutes that I'm forced to fight head-on.

Carbine+assault rifle+fire grenades.

What's wrong with camping?

The difference between the H-1 and H-2 Banshee.
Posted by: nesteggfailure
Posted by: Sliding Ghost I remember when we could attack the leader then kill their fleeing/demoralized subordinates in less than 2 shots. Now it's all about being suppressed into cover and leaning on crutches because every enemy is a Sangheili Zealot at heart and almost always focuses on you, the player. Enemy aggression has increased tenfold, enemy cheapness is off the charts. Combat becomes frustratingly slow, even on Easy. It's so unimaginably unbearable on Legendary it's better to just skip fights. This guy states the problem very well. But every once in a while, there is some badass that manages to beat the game at it's own game, like this one. Sure he may have used the noob combo but still, look at it. It's a goddamn work of perfection! You don't see even a second of Bungie's luck factor screwing him up. I remember when AI intelligence was being prioritized and the AI were engaging and fun. I hope Halo 4 will return to that.
Multiplayer murdered our campaign, man. Actually find myself abandoning a vehicle to survive a situation. Now how jacked up is that ?
I suppose that's true. But I think it's more accurate to say that Bungie has had a history of neglecting or messing up distinction between MP and campaign. Examples of neglect: The AR and pistol in Halo 3 were carelessly tossed into the campaign, unchanged. Likewise the plasma repeater. Examples of distortion: The Halo 2 sword was given infinite ammo in MP, the Reach Banshee was put into the MP with no changes (compared to the Halo 2 Banshee which did not feature the fuel rod cannon in MP), and the jetpack was put into MP unchanged, which caused maps to be designed around it, affecting Forge.

It's a simple but irrefutable truth - the small guys can fire weapons just like the big guys. If you can eliminate them quickly, you've got less to deal with in terms of multiple adversity. (And most of the time, you can strafe to avoid a big baddie while doing it.) Halo long story short, take out the little guys before addressing the big guys.

LOL... I never thought of using the Plasma on the brutes, I always made the connection with Elites but never the monkey things. Cause I'm always running out of ammo trying to run down their sheilds, only if I tried this earlier- Do'h!

pistols and smg combo for everyone.
-
Plasma Pistol + Magnum/Carbine. This combination will get you past most situations. Also, be a wimp. Play the game like you would if you were 12 and were playing Track Down. Keep low and hide a lot. Heroic and Legendary are mostly about trucking through it...
Posted by: MisguidedDrake4 Have an order of operations. Make a plan. Stay together. Farm vehicles. Find safe zones. There's tons of things you can do.
