Why does dbz have different opening themes for Canada and the USA?
So I remember in the past I have looked up the dragon ball z theme and got rock the dragon as a result, now I know the song from games and such but I never remembered it being in the tv show.
I later found out the version in canada had this [url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAOCnSKz-x8&feature=related[/url]
Which I do specifically remember. (At least I'm not crazy for remembering that.) But what I wonder is, what's the point. I mean I can understand if it's a language translation (japanese to english)
Or perhaps if the theme contained inappropriate content for whatever reason due to different restrictions in countries.
But stuff like this I don't get... Or like with other animes like naruto or inuyasha. They get american versions as well, and yet the songs are still in japanese. What's the point? You might as well keep the original?
Basically, long story short, why do some shows like dragon ball z have such specific intro themes, or is it that when I watched it on tv in canada I got the ocean group dub and not funimation... and that's why, I honestly don't remember but that brings me to another point, why are there 2 different english dubs that came out around the same time.
Also after looking it up, Canada had the ocean dub which is why when I downloaded the series years later why I remembered some parts differently.
But why have 2 seperate english dubs, one for america and one for canada/uk?

Either it switched back and forth a lot, (I vaguely remember everyone sounding different a bunch of times) or I became accustomed to Funimation voices and music through the games later on in life. When I went back and watched Funi dub, it sounded exactly like I remembered. Then I watched Ocean dub, and it sounded exactly like I remembered. T_T

As a Canadian this is the intro that I have known and loved when I was young I just watched the American one but I like the Canadian one better

So just did some research, apparently when dbz first came out in north america, both america and canada had the ocean dub and apparently it was the original english dub which uses canadian voice actors. But it had something to do with a split between saban and funimation and so from season 3 onwards it used american voice actors. I don't know the exact details but it had to do with some broad casting laws about it being considered canadian content and that it would have been to expensive for funimation to keep the canadian voice actors so they redubbed the first 2 seasons and continued on from there. Isn't it because different companies made their own dubbed version? I'm sure the Canadian version didn't have the same voice actors, so the songs would also be different.

I find myself enjoying the funimation more, though maybe it's just cause I'm more conditioned to it and more used to that, despite watching the ocean dub as a child, across every video game I've played and such it has been funimation voice acting. Plus I spent like a month and watched the entire series.

Funimation Dub is better in every way. Don't watch Ocean Dub. Well, Ocean Dub has a better Picollo. But Funimation has significantly better music, and the best Goku/Gohan.

When I was a little kid and went to Mexico to visit som family, I watched Dbz everyday and the opening theme was different too. It was also 10x better!

Just doesn't make sense to me... lol now I'm half tempted to watch both dubs... Just to see the difference. I'm more familiar with the funimation dub though as I just watched it 2 years ago, ocean dub I watched over 10 years ago.

I guess it's just hard to translate an intro and keep the same rhythm with the song. I prefer if they just keep the original and slap some subtitles on the intro, and if the content is too explicit for the country's audience then air the show at night or something when the kids go to bed (only familiar with american laws on airing mature shows). DBZ was a popular show, so they could afford to tone down some of the dialogue (I heard the Japanese version was a lot more mature).
