Why can't OP's delete or lock their own posts?

If the OP feels like his own post has gotten out of hand, then why shouldn't he be allowed to lock (or even delete) it?

 • Because people like me would use it to post nudes of Foman's mom and then delete before he can get to the thread.

 • Because once you create a thread, there's no turning back to prevent it. Think of this way, if you had a cup full of permanent ink and you accidentally spill on your new white macbook pro, it stays with you forever and ever. To quite answer your question, no thread or post on bungie.net can be locked by the user of the thread. They are reserved for evidence use in your post history.

 • This answers that the OP can change the OP to draw a Moderators attention to it so it can be locked. The reason a thread cannot be locked by us normal users is that someone may find discussion value in it, other than the OP. ~Delta
Posted by: Synyster Ricz It stops being "your" thread once you've posted it.
Posted by: mvyorkie009 they can edit the title or the OP to draw attention to the post yorkie
? What does this answer?
•
Posted by: Synyster Ricz It stops being "your" thread once you've posted it.
I hate it when people say this. It's still your thread. If someone wants to talk about the Titles thread, do they say "You should check out the thread owned by the Community made by Duardo about Titles and Prefixes"? No, they say "Check out Duardo's Titles and Prefixes thread". There's an implied amount of understood intellectual ownership. I don't think anybody's trying to say that they literally own their thread and that altering it in some way is grounds for legal action. Just that it's still their thread that they made.

 • As soon as someone submits a post to a forum board it ceases to be thier post and becomes the communities property. It's easy enough to just private message a moderator expressing your concern. If your argument is valid, they'll lock it.

 • Once you post it, it isn't getting taken down. You don't own it anymore, it belongs to the forum. You can't lock it, because that's one of the joys of being a forum nina. You can make edits of your title and your text in the OP, that's it.

 • I always thought any person having the ability to delete posts was a bad idea.

 • It's like people who make a thread asking a question. Then, once they get the question answered they request it be locked even though that topic can continue to be discussed by other people. You don't own that thread.

 • Nothing ever gets deleted on the internetz. Besides just because the 3rd grader showed you up on your own topic, doesn't give you the right to delete the evidence. No matter how bad you want to.
