I doubt that Halo 4 will be as bad as Halo 2. Halo 2 was the worst game in the series so I would hope they would try to use it as a learning tool and not make another mistake like it again. As much hate that Halo 3 fans give Reach, there was just as much if not more disappointment for Halo 2 from CE fans. The game just took all of the great elements of balance and skill out of the multiplayer. The maps were poorly constructed and they even managed to fail with several CE remakes, Coagulation, Tombstone, ect. It was most likely the sandbox that effected the poor map play, but still they weren't up to par with Halo CE or as good as future halo titles. On top of that, the campaign was the worst in the series. I've always felt that campaign is what games should focus on, and this is where I am most critical of Halo 2. It lacked good gameplay, story, and worst of all, atmosphere. The game felt unpolished, sloppy, and the plot line was hardly compelling. I would be hard pressed to see any reason that Halo 2 should influence any future halo game.
On the contrary, fans were very excited about Halo 2 & Halo 3. They were also very satisfied. Yes, there were a small group of people that considered people who played the newer games to be "noobs", I remember Halo 2 players considered Halo 3 players to be noobs. However, the level of hatred towards the newer games never got as bad as Halo: Reach. In terms of Halo: Reach, it seems a large portion of the veteran Halo fan base united against Reach and set aside their differences about Halo 1, 2, and 3 competition. In all the forums for the original games on Bungie, the posts hating on older Halo games have mostly settled and the newer posts are all about how "(Insert old Halo game here) is better than Reach". I'd like to remind you that Halo 2 is also the 2nd highest rated game in the entire series with Halo 3 in 3rd. Reach is at the bottom of Bungie's full fledged Halo games. And don't forget that Reach only managed to stay #1 on the Xbox Live Activity list for 1 week while Halo 3 stayed on that list for almost 4 years and Halo 2 even longer (for original xbox games). In fact, Halo 2 was THE most popular Xbox Live game until Halo 3. The entire main series Halo games (1, 2, and 3) were the #1 most popular Xbox games (excluding Halo 1 since it lacked Live). Halo: Reach lost the momentum. In fact, the popularity of the Halo series peaked out at Halo 3.
Posted by: Romeo the ODST The game felt unpolished, sloppy
H2's campaign was unpolished, sure. But that's due to time constraints and indecisiveness. It's actually a good thing since redundancy could be counteracted by glitching. Sword cancelling allowed for some of the fastest Halo speedruns on the planet. Anyways, sloppy? No, that's CEA. CEA's campaign was unpolished and sloppy. CE's campaign was great but the remake has a lot of inconsistency because the new graphics overlay isn't a perfect fit... and a lot of things that were possible in CE are now -blam!- up. And there's way too many distractions. Also, the lag from crossing loading points is quite prevalent. [Edited on 04.10.2012 6:05 PM PDT]

I don't see how, in any way, that this could be "speculation". They were shown the game by 343 Industries in depth. That's where they got all their information.
It was a leaked article... Sometimes leaks aren't always accurate. There were tons of Halo 3 and Halo: Reach leaks but only some of the leaks were accurate. Anyways, if that's the case, then I feel Halo 4 ruins the legacy that the main series left behind. Based on the multiplayer aspect, it's already very different from traditional Halo multiplayer, even different than Halo: Reach's multiplayer. Maybe this direction could turn out to be a good thing, but 343 would have to execute this new multiplayer style very carefully and would have to revolutionize Xbox Live multiplayer like Halo 2 & Halo 3 (to a certain extent) did. I still do have high hopes for the campaign though. The information available so far suggests a very interesting campaign. Will this new series have a story comparable to the entire Mass Effect series? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Basically at this point, I'm only buying Halo 4 for the campaign. I got my hopes up when you or someone else said Halo 4 would be close to Halo 2 style multiplayer. But that's clearly not the case anymore. The multiplayer information from that article points to a cross between Halo: Reach and CoD: Modern Warfare 3. 343 also claimed that Halo 4's upgraded Reach Engine pushes the Xbox 360 to its maximum limits. But Bungie has been making that claim since Halo 3. In fact, Bungie said they had to sacrifice resolution in Halo 3 in order to improve other aspects due to the Xbox 360's limited hardware. So back then, I thought Halo 3's graphics were as good as any game would ever get. But then Mass Effect 2 & 3 came out, as well as Crysis 1 & 2. I do wonder how much more power you can squeeze out of the Xbox 360. If games can be optimized this much on the Xbox 360's hardware, imagine what the next generation Xbox could achieve with the same level of optimization. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but perhaps, with extreme optimization, that Samaritan Demo, the one that required 3 GTX 590's, could run on next generation Xbox's without too much compromise. However, I do doubt that next-gen Xbox's will have the raw graphical power of 3 GTX 590's.

It's just a more CoD-like version of Halo: Reach. They brought back armor abilities... And now the system for aquiring weapons is the same as Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops... Guess the good'ol days of Halo multiplayer will be gone once Halo 4 comes out. I hope Halo 3 multiplayer will be kept online even after Halo 4 comes out. As for the campaign, it does seem interesting. I am very curious to find out why the Covenant are attacking Master Chief again. The only reason I can think of is that Master Chief traveled back in time before the end of Halo 3. That's the only thing that would canonically make sense. Unless the Reapers indoctrinated the Covenant... Anyways, all my dissapointments and interests only apply if that article turns out to be true. But don't I have to be connected into Xbox Live the whole time to do that? I'd hate to lose my internet connection (I only got 1 internet box and I don't have a wireless adapter for the Xbox 360).
Posted by: Sliding Ghost Btw, is there a faster, legitimate way to get the Elite armor? Having played Firefight while signed into Xbox Live, I now have a Cr cap of 50. Also you can create your own custom challenges. Here is a good example of a Custom Challenge. Challenge name: (doesn't matter) Challenge Type: Custom Goals: Kills Target: 1,000 Time limit: 10 Hours Final payout: 2,000 cR. Pretty easy stuff. Also local firefight and custom MP games both count under the "Custom" category.

xD!! I know about the XIM3, trust me! I might be getting one fairly soon. :D I was specifically getting it for when Halo 4 came out but I'm wanting to use it for 3/Reach now since my interest is rising in those games again. Truth be told, though... I have a really hard time using kb/m with <60 FPS xD I wish I could try out the thing before spending $150. On a side note, at first glance that mouse looks good. I might have to check into it further once I'm finished playing on the PS3 with my girlfriend. I've always wanted a mouse with adjustable weights... [Edited on 04.08.2012 3:26 PM PDT]

I do find it funny how everyone in the Halo community talks about how casual a new Halo game is. It's like they don't realize all the Halos were casual with a competitive mask on. If it makes you feel any better I'm not subscribed to his channel and I think I left a comment somewhere complaining that he puts "Ft. Chris" when all he does is regurgitate information that he reads online. Also, the powerpoint he did with that video was good. Probably his best video yet, but again I'm not a fan of him in general. I enjoy cod so it's possible I could enjoy the changes, but it's impossible for me to think that it will be at the same level I enjoyed Halo CE. I've hosted LANs at my house until this year, and I'm really missing it. :( You guys can stop complaining about ranked and competitive halo. I 100% disagree with you, but there's no point to debate it. It isn't ever coming back, and that's just the truth. The game will be casual, so let's get passed that and just focus on the important things. If the multiplayer is unbalanced and gimmicy than I won't be wasting time on it. I can't have fun in a game that puts luck over structure. To me, I think they destroyed the atmosphere of halo with Reach. I didn't like the campaign at all because it lacked subtlety. It felt like Micheal Bay + Trekkies made it. If the cinematics are like that and not like Halo 1-3odst (jumping to conclusions at 6 AM aren't I) then halo is dead to me. If you think anything he has to say is worth your time, your opinion isn't worth mine. (I know it's harsh but I can't help it. The guy fell for a "Halo 4 leak" that was obviously Crysis and was made specifically to make fun of him. The guy even said it was before when posting it. That's sad.) As for what I said about matchmaking in a competitive sense: The only way to have a "true" competitive match, by my standards, is to have it planned. There has to be some sort of "referee" or rule set that has to be followed. In short, it has to be structured accordingly. Matchmaking can not allow for that. I agree with what Invasion said, though. I like having settings that would be acceptable for competitive play while playing casually in matchmaking. That actually makes it fun. I'm really hoping they have a playlist on the first day that has settings very close to basic Halo. I wouldn't even really mind sprint being there to be honest. I'm going to be the black sheep here and also say I'm thinking I might enjoy the changes. I've been thinking about this non stop since I heard about it and I finally started thinking about this stuff in a Halo game. It actually sounds pretty good to me in a completely casual setting. I think I'd actually enjoy it more than base Halo for when I'm bored and want to have some fun with matchmaking. I know most people will want to murder me in cold blood for saying this but I'm willing to take the heat for it. On a final note: Campaign: It looks very interesting. Every single screenshot I've seen is breathless and I can't wait to get my hands on it. For the first time in a long damn time I've been as interested (possibly even more) in the campaign of a Halo game as I have the multiplayer. New enemies, new weapons, unbelievable graphics for the 360, forerunners, etc. One hell of a way to revive this aspect of the game that I've felt was dead to me since Halo 3. I do like Spartan Ops though...the one thing that actually sounds like an improvement. Here again though, I don't understand. Why would they so blatantly copy Call of Duty. They take Cod points from Black Ops, Frank even said he loved Black Ops for that so I know that's why they're doing it. I mean I like the idea, but this is bad marketing. Why call it "Ops" if it has episode like atmosphere and has a developed story component. I feel so confused as to why they are going out of there way to make it sound less of an evolution and instead more like cod. I think instead of saving halo and doing a lot of hard work they gave up. They could have evolved off of Halo CE, 2, and 3, but they were too into the game by the time everyone hated Reach. Using the same engine, they just decided to take Reach and update it with cod like features to catter to IGN and save any hard thought of evolving halo. I'm being really harsh right now and probably unjustified, but the more I read the more I'm disappointed. It really feels like they made this game to get good reviews and entice cod players. I enjoy cod btw, but this is not what I want halo to become. [Edited on 04.08.2012 12:35 AM PDT]

What I don't understand is this subplot with the multiplayer. It's completely unnecessary and hardly compelling. I really wonder how long it took their creative minds to come up with a virtual reality scenerio. Of course, the problem is in combat they aren't usually killing each other, since they were kind of in a war to save humanity. You know fighting virtual covenant would make more sense if it was for training. Apparently, they don't have technology to test virtual elites even though there must have been reasonable documentation considering that they fought alongside the Spartans and marines for so long. I honestly don't know what they were thinking about this. No one cares why the multiplayer exists. We don't play multiplayer for its plot. Maybe they had to do this to distract from the gameplay since that's what multiplayer is suppose to be about. Unless it has some direct connection to the main plotline in Halo 5 or something it's pointless. Even then, I think it's a bit out there and completely unnecessary. I just don't understand what was going through 343i's mind when they were making these decisions.
