For a forum that is maintained for fans of video games, I see a surprising amount of references to My Little Pony. What is up with that?
Is this an ironic thing? Like when you pretend to like something for the sake of comedy?

Did DeeJ just make a "I am 12 and what is this?"?

An employee making an MLP thread, I never thought I would see the day. Anyhow, they legitimately like it. If you downloaded things like coup, you would see that over half the people here like it. You can blame this thread for bringing the brony craze here. [Edited on 03.16.2012 1:53 PM PDT]
Posted by: DeeJ Is this an ironic thing? Like when you pretend to like something for the sake of comedy?
Positively speaking, yes. They want to be different, so they do so... sometimes in more childish ways than others, sometimes not.

Your guess is as good as mine. I don't know what these "bronies" see in MLP, but it's whatever. If it makes them happy, let them reference it.
-
A lot of the people who I have talked to that refer to themselves as "bronies" actually like the show. I don't really care for it, though.
-
I am honestly wondering the same thing. Have been for years. Time to fess up!

I gotta admit, the animation is very nice. Apart from that, I can see the appeal, but it isn't for me.
Posted by: darthnazgul For some yes, at least in the early stages of the fandom. But there are those who genuinely enjoy the show, for it's characters, animation and so forth. It's certainly a lot better than most cartoons these days.
agreed

It's horrible, early stages people think they are liking it for fun or for a joke, then they grow...attached... I will never be friends of any sort with a brony as long as I live.
Posted by: Hyperion A bunch of sad people that watch a children's show. Best to avoid them, in my opinion.
This. You should ban every single one of them.

There is a large fanbase for a show called 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic'. They have dubbed themselves "Bronies", and have a policy of "Love and Tolerance" (Though, I find it rare to find one that can uphold decent conversation on the subject.) The show itself is nothing too incredible, it's a modern day Spongebob Squarepants in a way. The viewers are mainly drawn to the fanbase. My guess is that the sense of belonging that the "Bronies" provide gives people a sense of purpose, and being part of something bigger. In short, I'm not too keen on the fanbase. But the show is decent as far as cartoons are concerned. I really must suggest that you don't look too much into the fanbase, lest they turn you into a self-righteous, intolerant, prick.

Just goes to show how much time employees spend on the Flood...

I like the show and the characters.

It began being popular after some people on /co/, 4chan's comics and cartoon board, watched it out of irony. Some people then actually liked it, some thought it was the dumbest thing ever. The trolls saw an opportunity and spread it around. From there a real fanbase grew outside of its target audience a la "Stand Alone Complex". Edit: The trolls still use it though, as it's convenient to pretend being fan. [Edited on 03.16.2012 2:00 PM PDT]
