Are geeks and nerds really less athletic and weak?

Do you think someone who is more into academics than sports is physically inferior to everyone else?

  • Nope. I'm a complete geek/nerd, and I'm very athletic, and I have a social life outside of the internet.

  • I'm kindof a nerd, but I'm also top player of my school's tennis team, drive a motorcycle to school, and can do 30+ pushups at one time. I wouldn't say that's stellar, but it's not physically inferior or wimpy.

  • It's true that it's a stereotype, but it's also a "mostly true" stereotype. I mean, look at most of the gamers you know. They probably aren't "that" big, and probably aren't "that" strong. Maybe they are of average build/strength, but that's probably about it. Most people who are driven and go to the gym 3-4x a week simply don't have a lot of extra time for video games (like myself) even though we may want to play it just isn't a priority.

  • Majority, yes. I'd say 25% do not fit this stereotype.

  • Honestly yes because: They spend more time playing video games They are more likely to be socialy awkward thus avoiding social activites ie. sports There hobbys are academic, math, computers, D and D or what ever I'm not saying they all are, but on average yes, they are weaker. If you don't believe me, go to highscool.

  • At my school a majority of the "nerds" (in terms of intelligence) are also really athletic. I'm not sure why that whole myth of "you either have to be smart or athletic, not both" is still even around.

  • No. I have a friend that does almost nothing but play Starcraft in his spare time. Other than that, he's a red belt in karate and works out for 2 hours after school everyday.

I know a lot of people who brag about it and are really puny.[/quote] Well I distinctify it because the school I went to trained you in five different types of martial arts but they trained you in the mindset of Tae-kwon-do. It's a little confusing I know. But I do know my stuff and can easily handle myself in a fight. I don't look strong, I don't have muscles and my abs are nothing to brag about but I am moderately strong and I'm starting to improve A LOT. I have a parkour record to prove it.

  • Well, I would call myself a nerd. But the reason why I'm not fit is this God damn leg the prevents me from doing alot of physical things.

  • I make sure to get A's and B's consistently. I run Cross country and Track both distance. I'm decent at basketball and football. I'm a black belt in Tae-kwon-do and MMA. I'm pretty good at Parkour and free running and improving constantly. Everyone I know would be able to call me a geek and nerd. No.

  • the words geek and nerd were brought into common use to refer to the less athletic and weak. more than a handful of my athletic friends were the top of the class every year but those words definitely dont apply to them. when you hear geek you think scrawny bookworm but the word geek actually refers to the circus performers that would bite the head off a live chicken. a dork is the scientific name for a whales male genitalia.
