Why do you think The Rookie doesn't talk? Be creative.
Does he have PTVD caused by some horrifying experience in battle or even something involving family deaths? Or do you think he just prefers not to talk? If so, then why does he prefer not to talk? Anti-Social? Let's hear some possibilities. Be creative.

Actually, I would hilifter. I would snipe(since I am a sniper) and call out, " F*** you Brute!" Also, back to the real question. Read the Rookies bio in firefight character and you will see that his platoon/ rapid offense picket got annihalated at Cygnus, New Jurusalem. So, he probably did a noble six and took of his helmet, and there must have been some radiation which screwed up his vocal chords(Scribbles to Doctor," What do you mean I can't SING any more!?")then he can't talk. The reels came to his town, and they -blam!-ly abused his mother and brother and sister and father. Then they tried to abuse him too, but he bit the rebel's boner off. Then the rebels cut his tongue out and thats why he cant talk! True story ;) [Edited on 01.15.2012 5:29 AM PST]

Ok you all have good ideas about how it happened but that is all wrong the truth is revealed now.....It all started in the third grade,rook,our main guy was young and juvinile and loved to lick things so he'd walk up to a window and lick it for hours but eventaully his mother convinced him to stop licking things.....This all lasted a whole 3 days his urge cotinued and in school he saw something shiny laying on the ground,so rook,mr. curious, walked over to the shiny object picks it up he doesnt know it yet but it will change his life forever. He licks the item and pushes the tip with his tongue and then his tongue slips and it smacks him in the face and a staple pops out and closes his lips together! His mom took him to the doctors to get it removed but the doctor just laughed and kicked him in the face and the young soldier cried cuz he just wedged the dreaded peice of steel deeper into his lips and they left cuz the doc was mean. so he decided to live with it because he was to scared to goto the doctors ever again. And that is why he never talks i feel bad for the guy. Dont you? is this creative enough? :3 and it all made sense too. [Edited on 01.10.2012 6:58 PM PST]

Well lets thing about it if I was a soul survivor of a battle i would be silent. Lets think he could've lost one of his friends/family while trying to protect them but failed. After his family was killed the ODST or some Marines found him severely hurt. Then he was maybe sent to defend a city and one morning he found the base under attack by Covenant he found all his squad mates dead. But soon after that he was captured by Brutes they took him captive. He then soon was saved by a a couple of ODSTs then he was taken to New Mombassa. Soon after he linked up with his new ODST team but he still could not forget the times he went through so he decided to become the strong silent type. After the drop pod assault 6 hours after drop he soon realised he was alone again............ thinking only one thing to do ..... look for the ODSTs. Well i hope that was creative enough :). It was either that or when he got wacked in the face by Romeo with his sniper rifle he got scared :) [Edited on 01.09.2012 3:30 AM PST]

there's a halo evolution book calle "dirt" it talks about the rookie during the battle of new jerusalem. maybe his speecheless attitude developed during that battle. or he thought dare was too -blam!- hot and lost his voice.
