Halo 2 MAJOR Plot Hole
Hello everyone, i am sorry if this topic has been talked of before, but it has bothered me for hours now so I must know. Yesterday I completed Halo 2 again for the first time in many years, and it was awesome but one thing I do not understand. And spoilers occur, for those who haven't played the story.
Prohet have the index and they can activate the ring which will begin the great jorney, but instead of doing this, he leaves it to Tartarus and sets of to earth to "finish what we started". Why? If the can begin the great jorney here, why would the bother with the ark, which was plan b after first Halo, as Delta Halo was found my chance. So .. how does that make sense?
So what did I miss? An answer is appriciated!

Plus he didn't want MC as his lackey, too dangerous so he decided on what he perceived to be the weakest link.

Perhaps the Prophet knew of the Ark and knew it would be a safe haven so when the rings were activated, they would survive and rule the Galaxy? Prophets WERE masters of manipulation.
