Can you become a Navy SEAL if you wear glasses?

I wear glasses and am thinking about becoming (or trying to) a Navy SEAL. Can I do that if I wear glasses?

 • Nope! You have to have blond hair and blue eyes too. Wait...

 • I'm pretty sure all military services provide you with laser eye care. I've had glasses my whole and thought about going into the military my whole life, so I already know they do.

 •
Posted by: up_flames
Posted by: SpartanMk18 I believe it is also a 5 year minimum time in service before you can apply for BUDS. That may be standard for every special forces team though. Rangers, SEALS, Delta, Green Beret, Force Recon, PJ's, etc...
http://www.sealswcc.com/navy-seals-not-in-military.aspx Nowhere does it state that you need any previous military service. Of course it is extremely beneficial as it will show that you are indeed hardworking and likely have a higher chance of becoming one. If you join the Navy and do say 3 tours; the officers in charge of choosing who can try will look at you more so then someone who does not have as much experience. Saying that you should be in a combat role on those tours and have many people to reference you as being a good candidate for BUDs training.
I think joining the marines would help with that.

 • You can try if you stop posting on video game forums and start getting in shape. Oh, and you have to be prepared to become a drone of your country's War Department and be able to kill men simply because they live in a different country. [Edited on 07.15.2011 9:53 PM PDT]

Will I be able to get some goggles or something?
*Near sighted. And I would assume that yes you would be able to. If you want the best possible answers I'd direct you to the SEAL website or even to the Navy's website(I say that because the SEAL website has no way to contact anyone to ask inquiries such as this). However, seeing as how someone has already posted the SEAL website I'll simply post what they wanted you to read and expand upon it. Vision Vision must be correctable to 20/25. Uncorrected vision must be at least 20/70 in the worst eye and 20/40 in the best. Color blindness is disqualifying. Essentially what they are saying is that with glasses your vision MUST be 20/25. Without glasses your vision has to be 20/70 in the eye with lesser vision and 20/40 in the eye of which has better vision. I can't tell you your vision because I'm not an optometrist. If you're truly interested in becoming a SEAL simply book a visit to your optometrist and he/she can tell you your corrected and uncorrected vision. Remember, you need both to be able to become a SEAL(corrected and uncorrected qualifications must be met or you're not qualified to become a SEAL).
Pretty much that.
I believe it is also a 5 year minimum time in service before you can apply for BUDS. •
Posted by: fuzzhead08 THERE'S -blam!- PERSCRIPTION GOGGLES!
No need to become upset over this. Nor must you spell prescription wrong to try and prove anything. When I said wrap around goggles I was implying them to be prescription goggles. You wouldn't get goggles to cover your glasses, that would be ubsurd. Any reasonable person can come to the conclusion that I ment prescription goggles.

 • They'll probably give you Reape Prevention Glasses, but aside from that I don't see why glasses would stop you from being accepted on their own.

 • Yes, you just have to pass the eye exam. They don't care about whether you wear contacts, glasses, or got laser surgery unless you want to be a pilot. You can get waivers to allow for glasses if that is really the only thing you need a waiver for. I'm -9 nearsighted in both eyes. [Edited on 07.15.2011 9:45 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Plasma Prestige I hate contacts. Glasses are so much easier. I don't like having to poke my eye ever morning. And if you've wore glasses as long as I have, it feels like a part of your clothing. As for joining the SEALs, I would assume you need close to perfect vision.
I doubt "poking your eye" will be your biggest problem if you're a SEAL. If you can't put on a contact, you don't deserve to be in the military.

 • Here there is a minimum eyesight requirement. Glasses are allowed for combat troops but its best to visit the Careers Office/Recruitment Centre to ask if there is an issue. Its unlikely there will be unless your eyesight is pretty poor, but ask anyway.
