I'm just going to guess that Nintendo uses engines developed by them for them.
Off Topic: I can't remember, did L4D/2 use Source? Oh, who am I kidding, of course it would use Source.

I'm pretty sure L4D used Source. As for Nintendo, I think they develop individual crappy engines for each game.
