Upstream Bandwidth and Matchmaking DC's.

So, after getting back into multiplayer on here, I was kinda sad to realize that playing with my friends was becoming a problem. We'd be in a party, whether through Xbox Live or the actual in-game chat, and I would get booted out of the matchmaking search/voting round. This is happening pretty constantly, like 3/4ths of the time I play. It's not fair to my friends that have to play rounds a person down, can't drop the search fast enough, and it's just annoying for me. It was dropping me out of games in the middle of 'em so frequently that I wound up getting put on a probation.. And I never leave a game, even if I'm the only one there. Anyway... I got really fed up with it, but I never seem to lag out of the Xbox Live party. That being the case, I assumed it was Reach. Poked into my network status and my Upstream Bandwidth says "WARNING! Suboptimal networking conditions will affect Matchmaking and gameplay." I was like "FOUND THE PROBLEM! 8D", but no freakin' clue what to do about it. For the record, my internet has always given me problems outside of playing my Xbox at all, but seeing as how I don't get disconnected from my Xbox Live parties when I get thrown out of matchmaking, I assumed this wasn't the problem, but I could be wrong - it's been known to happen. Sorry it's so long (and if this isn't the right forum to post in), but I was just looking for some advice on how to fix it. Thanks! [Edited on 05.11.2011 7:30 PM PDT]

 • it has nothing to do with your upstream bandwidth , i have a dedicated 100mps down and up and ONLY in reach do i get this. NO WHERE ELSE. halo3 plays just fine , halo 2 im always hosting and 16 people can play easily and only affect about 3mps max upstream . out of 100 mps thats not even touching the surface. Bur in reach , "WARNING" is what I get. internal it is 1000mps , external 100mps down and up. so tell me , since i'm a Pro , it is OBVIOUSLY not related to my bandwidth , what is it ?????

 • I read it all, and the upstream thing isn't the issue. Mine says the exact same thing, however, my connection is all sunshine and farts. There's nothing wrong with it. ATT U-Verse with 100mpbs down and 75mbps up. No, there is not supposed to be a dot in there. ;) [Edited on 05.21.2011 2:27 AM PDT]

 • Well I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having the problem, that's for sure. It seems to not be as frequent when I'm party leader I've discovered, but whether that's just weird coincidence or a subconscious attempt to make myself feel better, I'm not sure. I also thank you for commenting on my grammatical skills. If I need any help with that, I know where to go now C: I'll probably try contacting my ISP, soon. Someday... Maybe. I loathe dealing with Charter's tech support. -____-'

 •
Posted by: TwanStar03
Posted by: MarkFanous actually bandwidth honestly has nothign to do with it, it mainly focuses on your NAT, i had the samething you did, "warning upstream crap for a good 3 months, it didnt affect my searching or my games, what affected it was my NAT,closed took me longer to search and open got it for me in about 5 sec., that upstream doesnt do crap
So now that your NAT is open does your upstream still say "warning". And how's your gameplay? Do you lag in MM? I believe my NAT is and has always been open. My signal is great with the upgraded comcast signal but thats going to change in a month. I refuse to pay twenty dollars a month more for something I should already be getting.
my gameplay never changed, my NAT switched between open and closed like every week, and honestly nothing was different except how long it took to find players

 •
Posted by: rogueguy23 Mine says Warning! under upstream bandwidth as well, and this is my connection. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1277116421.png So I doubt it's your fault. With my speed I should not be getting that message either.
I had the same problem with my connection, and received the same warning message regarding my lack of enough upstream bandwith. I thought I could solve the problem by hardwiring my signal, but it only upgraded my upstream bandwith to average. I don't get disconnected but sometimes my broadband connection makes my MM experience feel like I'm ice skating or reacting late. Cable companies offer faster internet service at a higher cost per month. For three months Comcast allowed me a free trial upgrade of my internet speed. It feels seamless, like I'm playing offline now, but when my three months are up I don't think I'll be paying the extra $20.00 a month for it. I've also been told that an older modem could cause problems with upstream bandwith, and and based on the reviews, have been considering this one. http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-SB6120-SURFboard-eXtreme-Broadband/dp/B001UI2FPE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1305180264&sr=1-1
