I know why Kal Penn left, (to work for obama) but look at the character. Why kill himself? Also notice how the "suicide" was accepted at face value by the police and House's team? I could see the writers bringing this up again revealing it to be a murder. What else do you think flood? Any House fans out there?

I still don't think suicide makes 100% sense. Something seemed off, open to a different answer.. [Edited on 03.31.2011 9:48 PM PDT]

@DoubleP1243 Another reason I stopped watching. I used to put Tuesdays as a 'do not disturb' day. But ohhhh maaan, they just switched around the flow of the show so quickly, I stopped watching. I still don't think Huddy should've happened. [Edited on 03.31.2011 8:56 PM PDT]

He secretly hated his life, and he once acted on it

I could still see the writers bringing this up again. Look at 24, with Tony Almeda, we thought he was dead for a few seasons then he suddenly appeared again. It would e a good way for the writers to add a spark to the otherwise slowing down show because of season 6 and 7 basically about House chasing Cuddy.

Kutner was seen as an easy-going, undertone of a character. He was forgettable. Suicide makes it clean, easy, and leaves House to take it at face-value since knowing him meant getting close. He may have tried to understand everyone, but by showing emotion at a character's death means that he was attached. House isn't meant to be attached. So they chose suicide. House doesn't mind. Nothing could be done, and it gets rid of the character without having him pop-up again. There's also no bringing him to the hospital and having a chance at life again. He was offed, not much else to read into. edit: I also haven't wached this show since Kutner left. Got way too soap-drama-esque. [Edited on 03.31.2011 8:45 PM PDT]

They won't bring it up again, too much time has passed. They had the chance to do something amazingly dramatic, but they let the opportunity slip by. I'll watch House, but most of the episodes feel like filler. On rare occasions, the writers will demonstrate their amazing level of talent with sudden character development and moments of extreme emotion (i.e. the episode that took place at the building collapse, where House tries to help the woman pinned under debris)... And that's how you know they're damn good writers... But most of the time, it seems like they're not putting very much effort into the episode. ...Kutner's suicide could've made for several very good episodes. But the writers were too lax about it. [Edited on 03.31.2011 8:45 PM PDT]

Because it seems clearly that he is an homo-blam!- being.

House himself was the most shocked, he didn't believe it at all, if I remember correctly. Wasn't his suicide a convenient excuse because Kal Penn took a job at the White House or something?

as much as i hate to bring Cracked up when answering a serious question, they had an article about this a while back. basically, the guy suddenly decided to start working for Obama in public relations or something (no, seriously), and since he wouldn't be in the show anymore, they needed a way to get rid of him. dunno why they didn't make an episode where he did something to get him fired, though.

He wasn't happy, it was only a show for everyone else.

I think House is a good, interesting show, I just don't keep up with it. I actually remember studying the show in a creative writing class because it's filled with character stereotypes. As for Kutner's suicide, I have no idea. I guess just an interesting way to kick out a character? Maybe so there's a possibility for a basis of an episode in the future?
