(Only for people who have completed or are in the steps to completing the Fallout 3 quest "Oasis")
I have already completed this quest, but looking back, I'm really thinking hard about the decisions you could make, or more specifically, the top 2 decisions, which were to:
A) Kill the tree to put it out of its misery
B) Make it to where the tree's plants and life will flow throughout the wasteland.
I just can't really decide which decision is the more morally right one. With choice A, you are putting an end to the tree's miserable and painful life, just like he asked you to do. With choice B, he has to still endure the horrible life, but the wasteland can finally get some green growth flowing through.
So maybe you guys can help and discuss. Which choice is morally better?
EDIT: It'd be nice if you told me WHY you picked that certain decision.

Holy -blam!- I've only played 3 and Vegas, so I looked up Harold on the wiki and dang... he's been through a LOT.
Posted by: Phoenix Phire13 Burn it with fire. Honestly though, the best decision is to convince the tree that it's important for the survival of all of the tree minders, and they would be lost without it. The tree gets a new lease on life and decides that it wants to live (this is after you've made the decision to not kill the tree but to let it grow). The tree is happy, the treeminders are happy, and everyone is happy.
Plus, it's hinted that Harold has some kind of sentience with his plants, so it a few years, he'll be able to see the outside wasteland and it's people.

No one attacks you if you kill him. Trust me, I have played this game like five times and three I have played thoroughly. [Edited on 03.19.2011 2:19 PM PDT]

Choice B is much more loyal as in the end; he'll see that he's wrong in dieing in such a way.
-
I killed him to put him out of his misery. Look at it this way, if the people in the Wasteland are still alive, there has to be trees somewhere. ;)
-
I've went with Harold in Fallout 1 and 2, and I couldn't bear to kill him. I spread his reach with the... forgot.

I don't remember exactly what I did, but if you think about it - would one beings suffering be no burden on your conscience just so the wastelands could become lush with life? Now, that I remember, I ended his life like he asked me to. The Wastelands would begin to grow in due time.

I shot him with the Plasma Rifle and he caught on fire. For fun. Was an evil character anyways (Blew up Megaton, Wiped out Rivet City). [Edited on 03.19.2011 2:10 PM PDT]

I lit him on fire. Much easier than the other quests.
-
B, then convince that it was the best option.
-
I got rid of his heart.

Burn him with the flame thrower. I'm joking, that is the worst thing you can do in the entire game.
-
I burned him on my first play through but after I did that i felt upset :(
