Does Bungie realize what's happening to their forums?

As a Bungie fan I realize that Bungie does indeed care what their fans think. I was wondering, do they realize what is happening in their own backyard? In relation to Jay132's post here I'd have to say they don't really know what to do. I also had a really great conversation with Obbi last night about this. He's seen this happen before, apprently it happens to all game forums before a big release. So maybe we should all just hunker down and hope for the best. I don't know if it's because of the mods being overwhelmed with the stupidity from the flood of newcomers (due to all of this ilb.com crap) or if people are just getting bored. But something needs to happen. I for one will not give up on these forums, and I certainly hope that others stay here as well. DONT LOSE HOPE BUNIGE FAITHFUL! [Edited on 8/5/2004 12:07:34 PM]

Whichever shortened version of your name you prefer.
Whoa....You got more veteranlike really really fast! And any of the above will do. And you're welcome, not like you needed it, since you've been here a lot longer than me, now I feel foolish.

 • The good news (to this post's original question) is that Bungie very obviously knows and cares what is happening on their forums. Sketch has taken the time to create this thread. It looks like Bungie is not only offering ideas but is actually listening to member input on those ideas, of how to improve the forums and the forum-going experience. That is very different than many company forums that are made available to their respective communities. Most sites will load the BBS software onto a server, and forget about it. A tip of the hat to Bungie and their community relations.

 • I'm 16, and I'm new, but that doesn't mean I don't respond in a thoughtful manner. I'm not a (complete) idiot or at least I like to think so. Each forum here has its own personality. New Mobasa tends to be an irritable scatterbrained absent minded professor. Not much wrong with that, except that that professor comes out less often then it used to. On the other hand, complaining won't do anything. If we want the professor back, we have to be the professor, and that means posting in New Mobasa anyway.

 • I'm sure Bungie is concern about what is going down in their forums but they are more focused on getting their game done. Once Halo 2 is out I can expect a lot of the flaming to die with maybe more spamming. At least, I hope the flaming will go down. The members over in NM are getting antsy and all this talk of ILB isn't helping. They fly off the handle at anything that doesn't fit their ideals. Kinda like that new PSA from Red vs Blue.. Once Halo 2 hits I'm sure much more of the posts will return to story content and questions, which is why repeated posts will be more likely to increase. But that's common. Although mentioned before all over the Bungie forums, a search feature would certainly help cut back as well. But I'd rather Bungie stays focused on Halo 2, and then worry about the forums once the game is put out. [Edited on 8/6/2004 7:39:18 PM]

 • It's a buzz about the new game - I feel upset that Bungie tried to give us a gift, and the less mature people jumped at it, and essentially ruined it... Bungie went out of their way to make something interesting for the fans to explore and theorize and have ideas about - and a few rotten apples spoiled it by jumping to the most extreme and forgoeable conclusion. When it gets so bad as to a Bungie employee coming out and saying "It ain't happening," in so many words, then we've gone to far (Not being specific, I mean the Forum as a whole) Bungie shouldn't have had to deny or confirm anything, and it ruined a little of the fun for them and for us as well. To essentially make Bungie acknowledge the site alone hurt the enjoyment of those who remember the correct attitude to display. How ravenous were the fans during the Cortana Letters? And the ones that irritate me the most are the ones that are so set in their stubborness, that they resort to calling Frankie a liar, just so they don't have to admit they're wrong... I'm with Frankie on this one.... *SIGH*

 • Well, actually, as long as newcomers.....(Trying really, really hard not to say the 'N' word)....don't make repetitive post about the same thing as a topic 3 spaces down from them/flame about things they don't know/spam....a lot, then I'm fine with them. Hmmm....Wait....I'm a newcomer too, technically. Welcome to Bungie.net, Tanooki! [Edited on 8/6/2004 3:43:30 PM]

 •
I'm not switching topics, but I thought that the recent Red-v-Blue short was almost pulled from the pages of b.net itself! If you're in the mood to chuckle at some satire, it's on their homepage now.
I noticed that too. It personified the flaming/spam on some of these forums. Not the Septagon, though. This place is still cool.

 • Well as I've said aswell, I've met some -blam!- cool people here, and I ain't leaving at all. New Mombasa will be given another chance with me properly after Halo 2 has been out for atleast 2-3months. And nearly every other forum is cool!

 • I agree. I have been playing Halo for like 2 years now and consider myself a Bungie supporter but I can't see ANYTHING to talk about in ANY forum so I don't tend to post AT ALL eventhough I would like to.

 • They know whats going on. They aren't idiots. They are geniuses that made the greatest game but what CAN you do? Either find a way to ban someone besides just their .Net passport. (Maybe ban an email address and stop accepting people with free email that way once you are banned you need a new account and what idiot would pay to spam a forum?) That or make new mods and if that's the case we all know who would make an awesome power abusing mod. >_> <_< >_< <_>

 • I saw it happen on the old Star Wars Galaxies forum. When the forums first started it was AWESOME. There were only good people there. Closer we got to release, people started to leave. A bunch of the vets and I left the forum alltogether (and formed a seperate forum) about six months before release it had gotten so bad.

 • I've thought about the activity too. A lot of this garbage is just recent activity. It'll probably continue right until the release. I was also thinking some of Bungie might be online more as well because of this. Plus some of them probably finished their jobs too so they have more free time. Actors. I like that one. This forum is the best by the way. Mods post stuff. Nobody flames. Off topic posts are handled by members correctly for the most part(DON'T RESPOND TO THEM!). This place rules.

 • Based on Achronos' response and statement in this post, I would imagine that a majority (if not all) of Bungie is aware of the current danger. I can't think that they are pleased with the possbility of alienating and/or losing some of their most devoted fans due to the silly childish "actors" in the forums. I suspect (though it is only specualtion) that the upcoming "cool tools for Mods" and the continued attention of the Mod Team are shortly going to result in much less of a "wild west" forum experience. (if not "wild-west", how about the local middle-school chess club, after you give them crystal meth.... and guns!) I'm not switching topics, but I thought that the recent Red-v-Blue short was almost pulled from the pages of b.net itself! If you're in the mood to chuckle at some satire, it's on their homepage now.
