I have seen many topics that involve this subject within a post, but have never seen a topic dedicated to it. After hearing about how crouching can reduce the bloom of a DMR (or any weapon, so it is theorized) I immediately went into Forge and fired a few rounds at a wall crouched, and standing. Each time, I fired as fast as I can and in the theater, I saw the bullets didn't seem to land that differently.
Basically, I am not convinced that crouching makes you more accurate by reducing bloom, and am looking for an official source that says it's for real. Is it possible that the bloom appears to be the same, but in fact functions more accurately while crouched? Thank you for reading, and any comments that are posted.
Posted by: mistershag
Posted by: Wobbly_guy Yes, it does work. At least on the AR. You can fire almost as fast as full auto without expanding your reticule if you fire in 2 shot bursts.
I'm not asking about bursts or ways to reduce bloom, I want to know about crouching. Is there a Youtube video of somebody timing the return of the bloom to normal? I am still not convinced. Anyone have a link of some sort?
No, I meant you can't normally fire at that rate. You can fire much faster while crouched because the bloom retracts faster.

yup, it works. its hard to use in MM though, takes some practice :D [Edited on 11.13.2010 4:54 PM PST]

hmm, never knew that... seems like I till have to crouch more often now.

Yes it does work, but in multiplayer matchmaking you ussualy dont have the time for crouching around at close combat range. I use it more in mid-long range maps in TS and always in BTB

It doesn't reduce the overall bloom if you fire as fast as you can. What it does is reduce the time it takes for the bloom to subside. So you can pull off more headshots in slightly less time, which makes all the difference. Plus, crouching makes it harder to shoot you.

Yes, you can test it out yourself in a custom game or something.

..short answer.. ..yes, It reduces the time it takes for the bloom to return to the optical position.

I've always wondered this too, but I'm sorry to say that I don't know for sure. crouching spontaneously in a firefight helps alot and throws of your opponent's aim. hope that helps [Edited on 11.13.2010 4:48 PM PST]
