I'm not the greatest sniper and I'm having a hell of a time completing this weekly challenge.
So my question is this: Where are all the sniper ammo locations on Nightfall?
What I have found: We start off with 50 rounds. There's another 20 rounds on the cliff edge when taking a left at the fork after killing the Gueta, judging by the difficulty (I'll assume) there are 1-2 rebels carrying Snipers containing 5-7 rounds each, and finally there's another 20 rounds in the case in that same fight.
Am I missing any? I realize that's nearly 100 sniper rounds used to score 70 head shots in one game. That's kinda' tough for me. The closest I got was 57. I could really use some more ammo.
4) A sniper with 16 or 20 rounds (can't remember off the top of my head) can be found in the Powerhouse part. It's the building closest to the gate, with the hole in the roof.
Found it. Thank you.
5) Another sniper rifle with 20 rounds is on the roof of another building; it's the two-story building furthest away from the gate, with the showers on the bottom floor.
Cannot find it. I searched top and bottom floors of the showers. Nada.
There's another cache of snipers just before you go against the Shade turrets. It's next to some glow sticks that's near the Phantom after the gate opens.
Found that by accident. Thanks! *edit* Did it. It took one restart but I got it. Actually did better my first time through, had 56 head shots in my first run. Thank you everyone. [Edited on 11.10.2010 3:36 PM PST]

Maybe a stupid question, but... Usually you start Nightfall with 52 rounds extra ammo. But ever since that challenge is up, I only have 51 rounds of extra ammo. Coincidence? ^^

1) When you approach the settlement with the civilians, there's a sniper rifle with 20 rounds on a large rock. You get directly to it if you take the "shortcut" through the small cave instead of going the slightly longer way around. 2) One of the civilians also wields a sniper rifle. Drop yours, pick up any other weapons, and trade that for the civilian's rifle; it holds only 7 shots, though. 3) One sniper rifle with 20 rounds is available in one of the weapon cases the civilians show you. "Gonna steal it back." 4) A sniper with 16 or 20 rounds (can't remember off the top of my head) can be found in the Powerhouse part. It's the building closest to the gate, with the hole in the roof. 5) Another sniper rifle with 20 rounds is on the roof of another building; it's the two-story building furthest away from the gate, with the showers on the bottom floor. Also, if you're about to finish the mission and don't have enough kills yet, simply select "Restart Mission" from the pause menu. Do NOT quit and save because that reset the challenge if you haven't completed it yet. [Edited on 11.10.2010 11:51 AM PST]

I got it on my second try. I think all the ammo locations have been spotted for ya, but I saved some ammo by getting double-headshots. If the elite snipers line up in the right way, its very satisfying. Oh, and there is very little leeway for putting more than one bullet on a target. If you don't have it by now, I'm sure you'll get it soon.

snipe grunts their easy and don't use lots of ammo.

Here, try this method. It's what others are referring to Yes, it's pretty boring, but quicker than you may think. And it's not ban-able. I did a combination of two methods. I did the resetting checkpoint 10 times, and then played the rest of the mission normally. This allows you to have a few headshots already before you even begin the mission.
Really? just keep reloading the last save point. that's what everyone else does
You can? That sounds really boring. And how does help improve my sniper game? And wouldn't I be risking a possible credit ban or de-ranking by Bungie if it's done this way? I know they've been mighty picky lately and cR ban/derank people who are cheating on challenges.
There are another 20 rounds at the end of the mission before the shade turrets in a casing

There's a Sniper Rifle on the roof of the Powerhouse building with the hole in the top. Forgot what it's called.
Thank you. This is exactly what I'm asking for.
kill guys till you run out.. then restart mission. Your kills so far will stay, as long as you dont exit.
I tried that yesterday. I got like a sad 40-some head shots and thought about saving then restart the mission but my challenge reset. But I didn't try to just restart from last save. I'll use that as my back up plan then.
If you can't snipe in this game, you shouldn't be playing....
and if you can't answer my question then you should keep your childish insults to yourself and STFU, Mr. 1.68 k/d with a Sniper Rifle. You just stick to spamming the Target Designator since that's all your good at. Thank you everyone. [Edited on 11.10.2010 8:33 AM PST]

wen u first start go to the top of the hill were your meant to assasinate the elite... make sure its on normal btw.. DONT SPRINT or you dont get a checkpoint be fast enough without sprinting and youll get a checkpoint as you aim at his big fat head then shoot and revert to last checkpoint... also a very fast way of commendation boosting :D

you start with 51+4=55 rounds. some rounds are found (guarded) by the civilians and you can find some more before the shade turret part. 99% people just did *headshot+revert to last save* to get it, its much easier

Does the challenge say it has to be in one round? I know in a previous challenge that I had to do 40 headshots in one game on Nightfall. If it doesn't say one round, I would just start over again and go for it.
-
Try killing grunts and only shoot when they are still.
-
Theres more way to your right when your shooting the shade turrent :).. just go right its against a rock :)
-
you can restart mission and still have the kills lol
-
Also, revert to save if you run out. It keeps your kill count.
-
you can revert to last save or restart the mission as much as you want to complete the challenge.
-
kill guys till you run out.. then restart mission. Your kills so far will stay, as long as you dont exit.
-
you do realize you can just reload the save and keep all the headshots you've gotten.
