I realize this may be a somewhat unpopular opinion, but I think the new difficulty spike across the board is a little bit overboard.
I'm not someone that can do raid content or has a clan, I'm a solo player and while I always found certain enemy types annoying (Hive and Taken mainly) I've found gear/weapons or changing up playstyle a little to adapt to it. And overall I've had a lot of fun in the game running around and doing the PvE content.
Up until final shape. (I don't own the expac yet for context) but it seems like the unnecessary difficulty spike that hit raid/dungeon content also hit all pve content across the board. I don't know if this was done for reasons like other game companies do, to force you to either
A) buy the new expansion so you get the new class, or
B) suddenly get curb stomped in all the content you were running fine a day ago, so you give up and buy the new content in frustration just so that you can play and enjoy the game again.
But things feel more than a little bit OVER tuned now. Regular mobs that would take a few seconds or so to kill, and could usually be wiped out with 1- 1.5 of a magazine clip are now taking 10-15 seconds longer and MUCH more ammo, they're all essentially damage sponges now. And they hit a LOT harder, in all damage types.
For example, I wasn't running ANY dmg resist mods pre final shape. No arc/solar/void (etc) resistances. and I was able to take a good few shots before dying. Unless it was being yeeted by a boss of course. And that was with me having like 30 resilience score.
NOW though, I have builds with 70+ resilience AND dmg resist mods and I am getting 1-2 shotted by things quite often. That's a little bit nuts.
1 clip of ammo, 5-10 seconds to kill and no dmg mitigation stuff more or less pre final shape and surviving just fine, to 10-20 seconds (or more) 2+ ammo clips, double the resilience, actually using dmg resist mods and now getting killed by literally everything in just a few hits. At this point I'm sure I could get killed by a slightly perturbed squirrel running over my foot on the way back to his tree.
I know there's the "frankly that's a skill issue" meme, but.. this isn't just me. I've been working on my Xur quest of 21 missions, and fire teams are wiping right and left in every single one of them. Someone is dying every few seconds it seems like. Hunters, Warlocks, even Titans. It doesn't matter.
Sure, some of it is there's like hundreds more enemies it feels like, and much more orange bar enemies than before. As well as there being a sudden surge in Ogres in everything. It went from a couple here and there, to groups of them. You kill one and think your clear, then 2 more pop up. I didn't even notice it till several fire teams pointed out "how many ogres are there?!? FFS! " or "Why are there so many ogres all the sudden?!" We're killing a couple of them and then trying to work on killing the aspects of savathun that are in just about everything.. and then suddenly blasted to death by another ogre or two.
So all around, this just feels really bad. For a lot of people. It feels like ppl are trying to add the "affix" system, and making what was only in Nightfalls/Grand Master versions, pop up in the standard version.
Yes, I know my power level is only 1951. I'm not rocking raid gear. But that doesn't change the facts that there's a new spike in things that is causing a lot of frustration in regular content.
Everything is taking 2-3x longer to kill, They're all damage sponges now and have what seems to be the health pool of mini bosses. Everything is doing double (usually more) damage so it's hitting you like a mini boss.
Fire teams are going from maybe 1 or 2 deaths / run (at least in my vanguard strikes) to a few deaths every minute or so, and people are just bailing because it's a bit extreme. And this is people like myself who have run those strikes hundreds of times and are pretty familiar with them. Even people who have guardian rank 10, so they are use to running content on legendary. And now they're getting 1-2 shotted by things. Or getting swarmed by the sudden swell in enemy count, and especially the new increase in the amount of Ogres.
Again, this isn't raid content. Or even Dungeon content, where people are actively choosing to do harder level stuff and expecting enemies to have quite a bit more health and damage output.
This is every day run of the mill stuff we have been doing for years. Free roam, public events, Vanguard strikes. Your new player accessible/ entry level content. This is your new player experience. And that doesn't feel good.
Nobody likes constantly getting obliterated just running from point A to point B, or trying out entry level content like strikes that they probably have to do for quests, and are running so that they can get gear to survive a bit more in the world, and they can't even do that because gearing up activities are killing you right and left like the content you're trying to gear up for/to survive in.
There's also several dozen videos showing that the difficulty increase is about 30+%, and that's not just the raid/dungeon content that was mentioned in the patch notes. also, that your "Surge" bonus of 25% isn't compensating enough. That's in all content (again). Raids/dungeons/ mowing the lawn, etc.
Ppl are watching their dmg numbers and enemy damage numbers and noticing that 30+% change is apparently global, in all content. NOT just end game content like it was suppose to be.
Please rethink the level of tuning recently added. Changing it up a little is one thing, but when groups are wiping right and left in content they've done hundreds or thousands of times just fine.. that says something isn't right and the adjustments are overboard.

1 ReplyThe right build will make you a millionaire and get you all the gfs All hail the right build

Feels easier than Lightfall. You just have to have the right build.

1 ReplyEdited by MC 077 Lasombra: 6/10/2024 1:37:16 AMAn easy fix would be allowing the delta back. Playing basic strikes at a negative? Utterly pointless. It worked for years until the streamers became their focus. Make it an off/on switch and incentivize it.

I can attest to that I tried doing a normal nightfall which is set at high power...I got 2 tap by a normal mob and it took me 2 magazine's to kill the captain and it took 3 minutes to kill the overload after it wouldn't stun

Edited by xxMillhouse: 6/10/2024 7:08:46 PMI think the regular Vanguard OPs Strike playlist in the worst state it has ever been. A handful of the strikes can take around 10 minutes which they should be for the rewards given, assuming it goes smooth without the new wipe. But other strikes/ops can easily take 15 - 20 depending on matchmaking. Those latter strikes are too time consuming, and I will leave to orbit every time.

With the right build it's honestly too easy most of the time

Make it more difficult or add difficulty options. Make the hardest difficulty-25 and give cosmetics for armour like year 3 of D1 as rewards

Do you want to join a clan? I know it can be a hassle. I've been part of several clans that fell apart with people leaving the game. I went to the forum for clans and found a group that was recruiting. So far, so good. The leaders have been together since D1 and I have gotten help when I needed it, and helped others when they needed it. We are Chain of Souls. Look us up if you're interested in joining, or just message me if you see me on and need help in a section. I'm not a god tier player, but I can get you through the story if needed.

Just learn how to use cover and hit your shots, learn a couple of dmg or add clear rotations and that's it Stop complaining, if you think the difficulty is too much then you shouldn't be doing that activity until you become better, god why do americans can't grasp such a simple, logical and objective concept
-
That game is actually easier than ever. Just gotta get a good build
-
The game has been too easy for too long. I’m glad they are making the game more challenging

4 RepliesThe new subclass won't stop you getting curb stomped. You are currently of a low light level. You'll get stronger as that goes up. Same happened with lightfall. Lots of complaints of difficulty when it released, not so many by the time it ended.

1 ReplyI think at least some of this feeling is based on LL being relatively lower than before. To my knowledge, it is still the case that if you have a higher LL than enemies, you get damage bonuses and their damage is somewhat nerfed, and vice versa. Maybe that is most of what you are noticing. I can't say, because I. haven't completed the campaign yet so I'm not doing anything except the campaign. Which, on legendary, is pretty difficult for me, but then again, prior ones were difficult for me on legendary also. One difference I have noticed in the campaign is that it feels like it's mini-boss after mini-boss, with very few checkpoints. That gets exasperating when you have to keep killing a million adds and then knocking a boss down a health gate or two before you get back to the part that matters.
