I learned more info after posting this and it gets even worse. He was coerced into a false confession by police. They did this despite the fact they had already caught their prime suspect Frank Aguilar with undeniable proof he had been the one who committed the crime. This same man was connected to another murder and attempted murder that occurred 3 weeks prior. Sheriff Carroll claimed that Arridy told him several times he had "been with a man named Frank" at the crime scene. Aguilar later confessed to the crime, but initially told police he had never seen or met Arridy. However a statement obtained through an interrogation by Roy Best was released, in which Aguilar affirmed that Arridy was an accomplice in the killings. Aguilar recanted shortly after, claiming Best and Grady had threatened him with "terrible things" and that there would be "a dead Mexican" if he did not implicate Arridy in the murder. Even worse he has an alibi at the time of the murder, with many eyewitness claiming he was at a railroad workplace during the incident. But ultimately he was convicted solely on the bases of a false confession he coerced into. Back in 2007 he received a full pardon, 72 years too late but at the very least the state acknowledges his innocence.

😭 that’s so awful! At least we know about his innocence today. That would be worse, I think, to die like that and be remembered as guilty.
