Start Saving the Player Base: Destiny 2 Gear Vault

This will be the first of many separate and one large post over the next month on how I believe after playing Destiny 2 for 2,000+ hours, Bungie can improve the player base. I will cover almost every aspect of the game, but for today we focus on: The Players Vault. Vault: The limit on gear is 600 right now, surprise the remaining player base who are still loyal and up the gear limit to 1000 for the final year. There should be enough slots for 1 of everything of warlock, hunter, and titan armor, one of each weapon, and then additional slots. Just do it, you know the player base wants it and people stop playing activities just on the fact that they can’t store anymore loot. I continuously stop playing the game partly for the mere frustration of having to delete gear I've earned, still relevant or not, and having to navigate my vault. So there's been some hate saying that the only excuse for vault space is to "horde junk" which is partly true, but lets look at it from a numbers game at the current 600 slots and if you kept everything at max power level. This does not account for keeping gear on a character, which adds extra slots as well for storing things. This is not meant to be a "we use all our gear, all the time" conversation as this is not possible but more we want to store gear for when its the right time to be used and not have to go hunting and wasting all our damn time to get it. Players don't want to "settle" on adequate builds when they can store a better build for when the time is right. Don't forget we add about 6 exotic pieces per season and then raid, dungeon, trials, and other activity specific drops yearly or so. *The math may not be accurate as this is based partly on quickly estimating, but this is the internet so who am I kidding. Someone will say my math is wrong and try to tear me apart of it* Summary: ~112 Exotic Weapons ~200 slots for Exotic Armor ~144 for legendary armor ~200 for weapons Just like that we're at over 600 slots. See my SIMPLE summary below on my reasoning. Which you may or may not agree with. 112 Exotic Weapons - They may not all be S or Meta tier at this time, but it only takes one update or Youtube/Streamer endorsement of a build to change. Yes you have collections, but that doesn't keep kill counts attached to them. 123 Exotic Armor Pieces - Also, not all are S tier but with the right build anything is useful and you need to keep them leveled to max. Further, depending on the activity you are participating in, you may need 2 to 3 different stat rolls of certain exotics to properly complete a build to be fully effective. Therefore, lets round that out to ~200. Also, don't say you pull them from collections because we all know those stat rolls do not compare to drops in the game. Legendary Armor - Now all legendary armor can be turned into cosmetics so we're not considering ornaments Say you have 3 different class characters, and you're looking at 4 pieces of gear per build accounting for exotics switching out and 1 class item that doesn't need to change. Now take 3 basic builds focused in resilience, recovery & discipline. 3 x 4 = 12, 12 = 36, so 36 pieces of gear. Now say you want to split stats because you try hard at the end game, and split between Discipline/Recovery, Discipline/Intellect, Discipline/Resilience. We just added 3 more sets minimum per character. Now add Recovery/Intellect, Recovery/Resilience, Intellect/Resilience & we aren't even accounting for Mobility and Strength which are also necessary depending on class and build. We're now at ~6 maybe add another 5 if you want to be real crazy so we'll say 11 total builds (which is unnecessary but stay with me) 11 x 4 = 44, 44 x 3 =132. This doesn't account for raid gear for raid mods, which can replace other gear but until it does with stat rolls its taking up space so add another set and make it an even 12. 12 x 4 = 48, 48 x 3 = 144 Legendary Weapons- 7 primary weapon classes 6 special weapon classes 5 heavy weapon classes 5 - 6 elemental affinities (kinetic, arc, solar, strand, stasis) Remove Kinetic from the conversation, and say you want 1 of each of the 5 elements in each weapon type. 5 x 20 = 100, add in kinetic weapons and we'll call it an even 150 probably, and then we'll add in extra raid & pinnacle weapons or other specific drops that are very particular to certain activities but may no longer be useful elsewhere so maybe 200 total weapons and this can account or not account for perk rolls as well depending on how you see to view it.

  • Realistically I only use about 15 -20% of the weapons in my vault. Anything legendary in terms of armour is basically cosmetic. I personally think we have plenty of vault space but that's just me.

  • Ha, just yesterday I realized - new guns are supposed to bring excitement to the game and to be a motivation to play and grind, but for many seasons I don't feel that. Why would I grind for guns if I have no place to store them. "Delete your junk" is not an easy answer, all the gear that's left looks decent to me. In order to clean up decent guns I need to waste a ton of time comparing them, trying them out when needed, reading comments in DIM, and I don't enjoy it in the slightest. All in all, lack of vault space makes the game less fun for me.

    • Not vault space, no shards == no fun. I'm prolly not gonna bother to pick up those 100's of engrams sitting at the vendors.

    • I appreciate your goal of retaining/increasing the player population, but if someone is claiming to quit over vault space, I submit they were already looking for the door and this was merely weak reasoning. The proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back," I suppose.

      • Hoarding 40 reskins of the same gun with the same perk combinations and inconsequentially different stats based on the presumption of “maybe someday” ain’t gonna save the game pal

        • I find it insane that with all the colossal issues with this game, with all the massive changes that need to happen, with every piece of community advice ignored. People are still complaining about vault space.

          • In realty, 50% of the guns and gear in this game are garbage anyway. And ones you like and spent hours earning and updating will probably get nerfed sooner or later anyway.

            • At the end of each season I go through my vault and clean out the weapons that are duplicates or are not perfect rolls. Now that crafting is much easier it is less difficult to let them go to make room. I end up tossing all the new season's weapons in the vault just in case I stumble on something amazing, and go through them later starting the whole cycle over again. Mostly I try to keep one of each archetype or element just in case, but the amount of dust they have collected over the years would likely make Tess Everis sweat, so I will probably be deleting those as well soon, especially since it will be the last time we can use legendary shards. Personally I have never played Destiny 1 since I don't have a console, but as I am told the Vault space was pitiful and I am glad I wouldn't have had to stress over what to keep and what to shard!

            • Dresstiny is a funny looter shooter. Maybe if this business didn't spend most of their time designing garbage loot for the game, vault space wouldn't be a problem. Even then, if they actually designed an engine and not just updated their outdated one, vault space wouldn't be an issue. You are dealing with a cheap lazy business that wastes a hell of a lot of money on stupid crap that even after 9 years they can't even manage how to even organize one, and you want them to add more? According to them, it will break the game 😂

                • This is the first season that I've actually noticed my vault being too full making me play less. There's just not a whole lot of things I feel like deleting just so the game can flow like it usually does at this point. I'm glad you put examples using exotic armor on here because I was able to look at that and say to myself well being super experimental with the armor would have never happened anyway. My vault is a weapons vault. Like a lot of people I'm sure that there's things I could delete but everything added together wouldn't be enough without deleting things that I don't really feel like I should have to. I guess if you can't drive two Mercedes at the same time you should just leave one on the side of the road with the door open? The 600 is also about to not even be 100 spaces a year anymore. In the looter game where along the way people learned to mind other peoples' loot really really hard.

                  • And when the packrats fill up the slots, what then? What's the limiting principle? Vault should cap at 100 slots. But Bungie should add a way to recover guns from collections with rolls you discovered. Just completely render this issue moot and move on.

                    • I agree. I'd like to keep more things. You won't find many supporters of the idea here on the forum, though. It's funny, I see a lot of posts about Bungie "disrespecting players time" for various reasons but will be quick to tell you to delete gear. Apparently, not realizing that deleting anything is you, disrespecting your own time since the gear is the sole reward for doing anything. Suggesting that someone regrind gear after a meta shift just doubles down on that too. However, Bungie said there were limitations on that, so I wouldn't expect anything. Realistically, I think the game has gone on too long and has outgrown itself. (Vault space, DCV, that type of stuff)

                            • Buddy, your useless junk. You're hording over. Just delete it. The guns that can't be used anymore take a picture and dismantle it. The old cosmetic that can't be used anymore delete it. And the weapons you haven't touch at all in multiple seasons. DELETE THEM, if a gun that hasn't been used since the launch of beyond light. Delete them. I would only keep the raid weapons. And 3 or 4 armor sets that can be used in builds. Voila, you have space in your vault.
