Overall, I am enjoying the campaign thus far. Here's what I don't like about the dialog (probably not what you think)
Rick Berman was a producer for Star Trek. He was a bit of a turdslinger, but he was good at certain aspects of his job. More recent iterations of Star Trek have made me contemplate on one of his directives, and as Lightfall began unfolding tonight, I was reminded of it further:
"Star Trek is not contemporary. It's a period piece. And even though it's a period piece in the future as opposed to a period piece in the past, it still necessitates a certain style of acting and writing that is not contemporary."
This has been playing in my mind with the dialog. There was a particular dialog that Nimbus was having with the Guardian where he was having difficulty with a translation to tell us how dire a particular situation is, but at the same time uses dialog such as "sweet" or "sick!"
Destiny is set several hundred years into the future. There was a Golden Age, a Collapse, and massive changes to how humanity presented itself both physically and aesthetically. Given that, I find that it breaks my immersion a bit when I hear these things. As brash as Cayde was, his dialog still largely felt contemporary to the particular time period.
I understand many of you will come in and say, "There is so much more wrong than this" or "If this is all you're finding fault in, you're really blind."
Let's just stick to the topic at hand.
