Account Linking

I'm not certain this is the right place to voice my concern, so here we go. I coach esports for JR High kids. I'm passionate about Destiny. I love the game play loop and the universe of this game. I find it very difficult to attract new players to my favorite pass time though. Destiny isn't really a game suited for esports, but I lead young, blossoming gamers. So when I have a kid I support show interest in Destiny, I go out of my way to facilitate something that I hope will be a shared interest. I had one such player do just that. He told me he played at home on his Xbox. I don't have Xboxes at my facility though, I have gaming laptops. My thought was to link his Xbox profile to a newly created Epic Games account. So I proceeded to configure. I logged into his Xbox account from my PC using his gmail account. I logged into Bungie.net using his Xbox account. I attempted to link the accounts. When it attempted to authenticate his account, the browser decided to use my gmail credentials instead, with no opportunity to intervene. Now, I recognize that I should have logged out of all accounts within my browser and cleared the cache data, but there was no point that it illustrated prior to proceeding that X account was going to be linked to Y account. It just pushed it through. Let's move on. I then had my personal Xbox, PSN, and Steam accounts all connected to this kid's new Epic account that was created with his personal gmail account. There are a number of reasons that I can't risk leaving this be. I won't list them now, but suffice to say I had to remove it. The only means to do so was to unlink every one of my personal accounts. This is a horrible solution. I understand that Bungie is fighting account recoveries and I appreciate that goal, but there has to be some remediation to casualties along the way. I HAD to remove this kid's account. I HAD to unlink ALL of my accounts and data to achieve this. What was the result of unlinking all of my accounts? Bungie reverts all character data to the primary account from Bungie registration for your current character. All other accounts are set back to their original states. How is this a problem? Well..... all of my purchases are conducted on Stream. All DLC. All silver. My primary account according to Bungie.... is PSN. My Steam character is fresh. Dry. Not even created. My PSN character cannot participate in any of this or any previous years' DLC (Dungeons, Campaign, Raids). I effectively have either, A) lost all my character data, or B) cannot play the content that I paid for. I can't even transfer my character data to the Steam account and abandon the PSN account. That's my unique situation. I don't know the solution other than to wait and only play on my PSN account for 3 months until I get out of Bungie jail. This is simply an appeal for change of policy or approach. Thank you respectfully. I still love your game. I just won't be playing the cool new dungeon or new campaign until everyone else gets to experience it for a month.

  • Cross save never transfered your data to steam. All characters are bound to the account(system) they were created on. So when you deactivated cross save you sent you main characters back to psn and now have access to your steams characters. If you want your psn characters back you must wait the 90days.

Cross save issues, bungie wont undo the 90 days time out due to security reasons. Secondly DLC are tied to that platform they were bought on, cant move a steam dlc to psn as they are diffenet platforms an the platform provides Sony an whoever owns steam would need to make this happen bungie doesn't control this. Third it doesnt really matter if the kid is on Xbox, psn, steam of eg. As cross play is a thing in destiny you can add him as a bungie friend an still play with him without having cross saved enabled on the kids account. Edit: your post had a lot so I had to go reread it for the rest lol Accounts can not migrate from one platform to the other i.e moving your account from psn to steam bungie doesn't offer this. (The only time this is offered is when a platform is being taken offline in the case of the stadia players) Once your cross save time out is up, you will be able to enable cross save i recommend doing this on your home pc so the incorrect account linking doesn't happen again, once you restart cross save an link your psn account to you steam you'll have access to all owned dlc on steam again. Last if your character were moved back to psn they originally came from psn, i.e you must of started playing destiny on ps activated cross save an linked a steam, these characters will always be tied to that psn account as thats where they belong destiny cross save let's you access your characters from one account on a different platform is doesn't mean you moved your character from ps to steam. Overall both you an the kid will need to wait to 90 day window out.
