Bungie, SBMM wasn't what the game needed, it's your shitty team balancing

I seriously have never played a game so consistently bad with team balancing that you'd think it's on purpose. I physically can't play any competitive game mode without the game giving me 2 potatoes who throw, then match me against 3 random sweat gods rocking ultra meta crutch 5000 with a side of juggernaut ape titans or invispam hunters with a mix of camping bastion. It never fails, I physically can't match IN THE SOLO PLAYLIST, without it still giving me completely unbalanced teams EVERY SINGLE GAME. It's amplified in any and every PvP game mode possible and it really can't be this bad for 4+yrs on purpose and bungie still doesn't understand why pvp doesn't keep its player count. And even lfg isn't any better. I can lfg and best I'll get is some decent or 1 good player with a side of elitist (quits the first loss of the day) and it'll still match like it's trying to give a complete stomp 1 way or the other and there's never an in between. Just don't understand how bungie can't focus on fixing the most obvious problem with destiny's matchmaking

  • Just look at how any pvp discussion goes toxic immediately after got posted… Just removing PvP might be a great alternative. You have many other pvp games to play with dedicated servers, much better matchmakings, and more balanced environments. No need to beat a dead horse over and over again. If you don’t enjoy Destiny 2 pvp, play other games! Devs will finally start listening only when the metrics look miserable.

          Team balancing doesn’t help the player at the bottom of the skill gap who winds up with a 0.04 k/d for the match, because he’s in a lobby with one or more players that it’s statistically impossible for him to beat 1v1. What you’re complaining about are exactly the conditions that CBMM creates.

            You clearly have no idea what CBMM created over the past 4 years and why SBMM is required.. Sweats constantly stomped easy wins / kills in crucible because they relied on and exploited the fact they wouldn’t be matched with players of the same skill level.. To further ensure that they would continue these stompfests they purposely went into crucible in organised groups of 4 and 6.. Those that are crying now only after few weeks are upset because they can’t stomp their easy kills anymore

            • Doesn’t matter now. Their loose SBMM they just implemented Is either too loose, or they accidentally turned off SBMM. Played crucible after reset and got put in lobbies I had no business in. Quit after 2 because it’s zero fun in getting steam rolled.

                  • Yeah that’s what I have been saying for a while. Sbmm ain’t the issue anymore and comp freelance is the perfect example. When I play Freelance comp, i always get 2 potatoes in my team and then im against 3 average players. The way they balance makes it so the higher tier players must always somehow carry the entire team. It’s pretty annoying and that’s why I stopped playing comp all together.

                      As bungie clearly stated, some loose sbmm is required to make team balancing work. With huge skill gaps, team balancing just flat out doesn’t work. If you have tight sbmm then you really do not need any team balancing at all, but player base is too small for that. Teams have to go. (Or at least go into their own playlist). Pre-made Teams totally bypass both the team balancing algorithm and the connection matching algorithm.

                      • I think this loose SBMM was a decently well implemented idea, sure connections in My matches have gotten slightly worse connection wise, but overall I enjoy the competition, but I do agree that Lobby balancing can be out of this world. I’ve gone onto clash when it was the game mode to have 3* efficiency while none of my teammates have even a 1. It’s not as noticeable in control because most people are within an okay skill gap for it to not destroy the match but in cbmm it’s IMPOSSIBLE for me not to notice it. I believe it definitely needs to be looked at and refined a bit.

                        • Edit: For the people who don't read The reason I say sbmm isn't the issue because every issue I'm mentioning happens in non sbmm modes since I've played the bare minimum of matches this season in the control Playlist. I'm not a meta crutcher, kd farmer, stacking pub stomper or literally any ignorant elitist that thinks "skill issue" is the reason people aren't enjoying pvp matches. If I cared so much about my stats, I'd be farming. So don't try and bring up the "but your at a 1.5kd and I'm at a 2.0, so obviously it's a skill issue" because you're simply just missing the point

                        • When I go to D2 tracker I still see that one of the teams has like 70-80% chance of winning the match. I don't know what the -blam!- they doing but these games are determined before boots are on the ground.
