Freelance gambit is needed in the worst way

It's worked out great for trials and comp. It's time to finish this crap and make it available for gambit too. Nobody likes solo queueing and then facing a 3 or 4 stack every game. Nobody.

Nobody.[/quote] There’s barely enough people playing gambit in the first place. Adding a freelance would split that up. Not sure if that’s a good idea atm…

  • Wouldn't help. The issue with Gambit are different The biggest issue is gambit itself. The game has a few optimal strategies, and is VERY punishing to any team that doesn't know them and doesn't use them. Also the role of PvP and PVE are out of balance. One good player cannot carry a weak team from the PVE side.....whereas one skilled PvP can literally determine the outcome of the match. The other big issue are the Gambit bounties, and the Pinnacle system. The result is that you wind up with people who have been INCENTIVIZED to play in non-optimal ways. They either show up and just throw the match to get their three matches over with as quickly as possible to get the pinnacle.....or to farm for rolls on a particular weapon.... Or they're doing thing like trying to bank 15 motes or kill a high-value target without regard to what else is going on in the match. Or worse....killing mobs and refusing to pick up or bank ANYTHING. An element of SBMM has helped with this a LOT. So if you show up with a pre-made fireteam, the game will match you against BETTER players to neutralize your team advantage. But the game can only go so far in dealing with players who don't really understand the game. Or are just toxic and refuse to play to the objectives. A Freelance list wont' help with those problems. Which is why, imo, Bungie has kind of withdrawn support for Gambit. They know that the nature of Gambit itself will always limit its popularity...and if you try to "fix " it....you'll wind up destroying it for those who like it with no guarantee that anyone will like what the final result is.

    • I really don't see the problem with gambit, I quite enjoy it. I solo Q and am quite successfull in it, I would say 80% ish win ratio. Gambit is all about clearing the bank and focusing on the invader, the rest will sort itself out

        • I get 3 or 4 stacks regularly, i suck at invading on PC so i cant even try to counter em. i can wipe whole waves of adds in seconds but my team is so focused on 1 red bar gladiator that they miss all the motes. At this points i would prefer rank or skill based mm for gambit. Freelance could work but you would still get potato joe who cant even shoot the moon if he was standing on it.

            Matchmaking is the least of Gambit's problems. It hasn't been updated in so long that it can't even keep up with the artifact. Last season it was Breach and Clear and now it is Particle Deconstruction. Any team, coordinated or not, can melt a boss before the enemy team can even get through the portal to stop the melt. Then you have things like Eyes of Tomorrow, which was clearly not designed with Gambit in mind, paired with heavy ammo RNG. I swear I've had to avoid 5 Eyes shots from one invader on more than one occasion. Meanwhile I'm lucky to get one heavy brick drop. Gambit just hasn't kept up with the rest of the game, simply because it has been ignored.

              Gambit doesn’t need a freelance. What it needs is either a serious update and made worthwhile of actually trying to win games vs. just getting it over with for the pinnacle. Or what I personally believe is it should be scrapped/vaulted and something new take it’s place.

            • Yeah it can be a pain but I have solo queued to guilded 3 times and beat many stacked teams. A lone player can control a whole game you just need to watch the infomation provided on the screen and be prepared to act on it. Its a fantastic game mode because you can flip the game on its head in the last few seconds. Splitting the queue into 2 would make it so much worse as the volume of players is not available and queue times would screw everyone much more than a stacked team ever will.

              • They still have the stupid balancing mechanic that you get ultra tryhards if you go in with a stack. Dude gambit just needs to die. It was left to rot and is such a failed game mode because they never actually balanced invaders.

              • The main issue is because they still force player to get way too much gambit/PvP experience so during double exp week this mode get full of stack tryhards And since gambit can literally just be cheese .....

                No, get rid of all freelance playlists and fix the matchmaking instead, it should always try to find a similar size of fireteam to play each other in all of pvp and in Gambit. Freelance just splits the population and therefore increases queue-times and lag.

                  • It isn’t in trials and all it did for comp was stop post that blame “stacked” teams for them losing and now they are making new excuses. Freelance has always just been a placebo.

                  • Gambit just needs a little work. One, when your team is behind, they spawn high level mobs worth more motes. Except now you have Ogres running around. Just make the regular enemies all glow meaning they are worth more. It’s hard to catch up when everything is a yellow bar.
