Bungie's Guide to Increasing Difficulty

Step 1: Add more champions Step 2: Give enemies more hp and do more damage Step 3: LASO Doing this will get you Bungie's seal of approval for harder content.

  • I don't get their argument on making endgame content like this because "we're to overpowered" I still feel like a toddler with all my limbs broken in anything at or above master difficulty and I have never even bothered with grandmaster anything after trying the europa hunts last season. I really don't see how we're so drastically overpowered from d1 to now in d2.

  • Tbh it's literally quick and simple for pve difficulty that's why bungie do it but most times to me it just feels 100% cheap like playing against a cheater in pvp they have unlimited abilities spaming max dmg crazy health but it probably wouldn't be as bad if we didn't have such crap health and resistance perk does nothing in endgame tbh you gotta hide and use every dirty tactic you can against them hence the overuse of a certain exotic that bungies gonna nerf soon

    I dont agree with champions but I don't know how else to increase difficulty other than making enemies more threatening, through power disadvantages and modifiers. We have so much kit in this game that makes it unbelievably easy to stay alive and kill enemies, but rarely ever is any of it truly put to the test. The only other activity where you are underlevelled and die this quickly is GMs, and replicating the experience in a raid is good. You need your protective light, your wells, your stasis turrets, your bubbles, your warmind cell builds, you need to fine tune your loadouts to have every weapon choice and every mod slot have a definitive purpose otherwise you will not be able to handle the content. This is fun. It is a shooting game, there should be threatening enemies to kill that force you to be extremely deliberate and efficient in the way that you defeat them. I do think some extra mechanics would be cool but this is something that can very easily be taken too far. If you lean too far into mechanic heavy and not enough threatening enemy heavy, you end up with encounters like spire of stars, the leviathan gauntlet, riven, sanctified mind, and people don't enjoy those either. You have to spend so much time crafting strategies and figuring out mechanics, while enemies are a complete pushover. Im not sure about you guys but I bought a shooting game not a puzzle game, and don't get me wrong I love the idea of raid mechanics but most people do not like it when encounters are so mechanically complex that it feels like you are studying for a test rather than playing a game. I don't mind it, I can handle anything in this game at this point, but I feel like if you are weighing what the majoritt of people will complain about the most between harder enemies and more complex mechanics, I feel like a lot of people will be much more upset with more complex mechanics.

    • Do y’all remember the challenges in King’s Fall? Each encounter required you to do something differently to get that second reward. It was more complicated. Made you come up with new tactics to beat it. I miss those days of raid challenges. Having to brainlessly fight tanky ads while dodging bullets and laying down freezing turrets and crunching on Wells is not not my definition of a good way of “mastering something.” I just feel like Master VOG was a huge wasted opportunity. Especially by not adding in bee armor ornaments like they did in D1.

        • The problem with difficulty is that the player base will complain no matter what. Enemies that require an additional mechanic to kill them (champions)? Y'all complain. Enemies you can't face tank (enemies that do increased damage)? Y'all complain. Enemies you can't kill in three handcannon shots (increased hp)? Y'all complain. Increased mechanics (especially in raids)? Y'all complain. What do you people even want? Ultimately, some players want a challenge and some want a steamroll. This is why master VoG should be 1350 now and remain 1350 forever. Allow people who want that challenge to get it and the Timelost weapons now and allow the others people to eventually be able to somewhat steamroll it after Witch Queen.

          • You forgot One kill and wipe the whole team. That is difficult and puts pressure on the other team-members! And to ad insult to injury, ad a timer, locked presets and non working mods and you have a complete hellhole! Why not just get rid of the ads and just put champions and unstoppable bosses in their place in the game? That would even make Esoterrick think twice before going on a a solo raid!

            • I have no problem with hard content. I have a problem of running bounties 24 seven to get to that content. I play a decent amount, but bungies theory is you need to olay all the time if you want to run endgame content. Where it should be all players should have access to that content if they wish to try. But at the same time players who do play all the time should have slight advantages.

                • Step 0. Lock out all soloplayers, all matchmaking, all difficulty game-scaling - therefore the most players is simply the easiest mode. Step 4. Label it as "Aspirational" activity.

                  • Bungies game progression model is flawed. Do something difficult. Then as soon as you do it. Get things that make it easier. Then grind for more stuff to make it easier repeating the thing that you can already do. Kinda Dumb
