Since last season the requirements were different you will most likely need to do one this season for the achievement to pop

I am confused though, it still said 22/23 achievements when I did the GM last season. It's a steam achievement, not a bungie one. Bungie shows me having the triumph. Still doesn't show me completing a GM in steam.

Bungie changed the requirements. Last season you needed to do a prestige Leviathan raid since you can't do that any more the requirements were modified to something you can do this season

That was in 2017 before it was not steam and when it had a different requirement, I believe it was heroic nightfall but also battlenet. Didn't have achievements so it didn't count anything. End of the day the answer to your question is you have to run a grandmaster this season for the achievement
