I always enjoyed math and science in school. My best subjects in elementary school were math, science, and religion (I attended a private Catholic school, though raised protestant). In middle school (I transferred to public school), they were math and science. In high school, they were math, science, and history. In college, they were math, science (except organic chemistry), and philosophy.

  • Similar story here. I went to a Baptist school and excelled in religion class; the teachers loved me. I wonder what they’d think if they learned I’m now a full blown atheist 😆

  • Sadly, they probably wouldn't think much of it. The institutionalized church is dead and has been dead for a long time. It's only by God's work, His miracle, in spite of it, that there are still believers. I've recently resigned from the deacon board and forfeited my membership at the congregation I attended based upon that grievous realisation.

  • Eh.. I see your point, church membership has gone down and lockdown certainly assisted with that, but at the same time I know those teachers would be disappointed with me. It would be an interesting potential conversation, to say the least, if I were to again meet with them and discuss religious topics.

  • Really, they're disappointment shouldn't be exclusively toward you. They failed to lead you toward a decent foundation. You found a foundation elsewhere. It may not be the most sturdy, though it is better than what you had, and likely has more truth in subjects that appeal to you. I'm sure a discussion with them would be interesting.
