What's the deal with the tether

I've witnessed it 3 times now catching and letting go of people in their supers and allowing them to continue to super. I recorded it of course. Anyone else seen this though?

  • This has been a problem since launch. Bungie is not capable of fixing it.

  • At the very least it needs to insta-supress anyone you hit directly, with top tree having a much quicker suppresion in general.

Ive run tether competitively since Y1. But the countless times Ive died to the delay is stupid.

  • I agree I think what they need to do is make the time it takes for the tether to activate after hitting the ground a lot less to at least make it okay to use.

  • The deal with tether is that it's trash. This is nothing new and with the focus on Stasis, it's unlikely to be fixed or buffed any time soon. Do you think Bungie would buff a super based on stopping supers when they want consumers to run around freezing shit? That's how to kill pvp fun before it can even begin. Not saying getting frozen while in Daybreak will be fun either though. Remember, we play how Bungie wants us to play.

    • Just switch to titan. Bungie have equipped it with suppressor grenades that last for half the game and you get them ever 45 seconds

Edit: Didn't mean to double post. Bungie's app gets horrible connection on mobile sometimes.

    • As a Titan main, I agree. Its actually BS that I can still throw a hammer, do a final slam or throw a shield before the tether even activates

      • The super sucks in PvP. Doubt Bungie will ever fix it, since it has nothing to do with an exploit or silver sales. It's weird how a suppressor grenade works immediately, but a SUPER allows you to run around for a second longer so you can kill the tether user. :S

      • It is true that NS seems lacking, BUT as someone said, everyone runs nightstalker for invis. It’s neutral game is what makes it so great. Take bottom tree DB, most of its utility comes from its super, so you have to kinda play more passively until you get the super, but then you turn into -blam!-ing operation rolling thunder and get team wipes. It’s all about pros/cons. When choosing a subclass: take into affect how much the pros outweigh the cons. In an ideal world, all supers would feel great AND they would have a great neutral game, but from one Neutral>super player to another (nova warp is still hot garbage btw), keep on crutchin those neutral abilities

      • Let's be honest here, you and everyone else (myself included) only use top tree Nightstalker for the invisibility. The super itself is absolute garbage. And I'm not talking about using it as a panic super, either. The number of times I've heard an enemy super, placed a tether at the entrance while getting the hell out of there, only to have them run right past my tether, catch up with me and kill me... Tether needs more than one of the following fixes/improvements: 1) FIX: Shoot where the damn reticle is, period! I'm tired of having to re-acquire the target that I had already acquired 2) FIX: Shoot from where the hell I am standing, don't propel me up in the air! The amount of times I've tried to lay a trap inside the entrance to East/West Tumbler and hit the ceiling instead... 3) BUFF: Track targets. Both Dawnblade and Sentinel Shield track without line of sight and around corners. Hunters are the only class without a tracking super. Maybe just Moebius? 4) BUFF: Activate Deadfall immediately upon hitting the ground 5) BUFF: Have Deadfall disrupt targets on fly-by with a lower radius (6m?) and keep the existing tether mechanics, delay included, after it makes landfall 6) BUFF: Make the Tether inescapable as long as you are within line of sight to the Deadfall and it is intact. You have to either get into cover or destroy the anchor to be released 7) UNNERF: Undo the nerf to Deadfall enemy damage taken and shared. If I catch multiple enemies with my Super, I expect to be able to kill all of them 8) BUFF: Debuff enemy damage, rate of fire, aim assist, and/or crit capability. If I 1v1 with someone tethered, I expect to have a strong advantage. Even a smoke bomb performs better in this regard. For top tree, Orpheus Rigs could give the anchor the Young Ahamkara treatment: make it last longer and give it more HP. Alternatively, that could be a whole different exotic since Rigs are already quite good on bottom tree even with the top tree nerf.

        • Its absolutely terrible, I was playing Trials earlier, a hunter used their arc staff so I shot a tether straight at him, he starts spinning his staff and my tether just disappears completely, no damage and didnt even slow him down cause then he just casually walks at me and kills me

          • As someone who has used tether since I obtained it in d1 and d2 after that public event drop... I have noticed this for a while, I've straight up direct impacted a guy and he continued on like nothing happened. He was in his super, got there'd as I got the mark and nope. Denied. I don't know what is going on with it to be honest. In PvE which is what I mainly play, it's doing fine.

          • It is worst ever super for PvP. Not only I have experienced what you have, even when it ’works’ it is shit. I.e. so slow that enemy super can kill you.

                • Its all due to speed. Players that move fast enough will be able to not get hit by the tether as it takes a little bit of time to reach the player. the only supers ive seen do it are dawn and dad slam, and thats just because they can move fast and they can be in the air.

                  • This is nothing new. If something is bad you're expected by Bungie to just not use something you like and watch one of their quality streamers for meta setups. Merciless is just now getting attention and will be fixed after months of not working. What can be said of a subclass? Sad times. RIP. Chadwick Boseman.

                  • I’ve seen it happen when a roaming super character is moving really fast, the pass by the tether, the tendril reaches out, but by the time the debuff/suppression is able to activate, they are out of range of it again.

                  • The entire super animation takes way too long, from the short hop you take shooting it (and that's even if you don't jump in the air) actually shooting it, the arrow hitting the target, and then the void anchors coming out. All of it takes way too long. If someone is fast and or smart enough it won't matter by the time the super is activated. And it already gives a radar ping and you can hear it, so it makes it easier to avoid if you know it's there. Which if you're paying attention to the screen indicator telling you a tether was popped you will. 1. The shooting/activation animation should be faster. The entire process. 2. The tether aim and shot vector needs to be fixed. It veers off to the side of where you are aiming. And I think the magnetism it has is supposed to make up for this but it just needs to be fixed. 3. Tethers are supposed to be traps first. How about allowing invisibility to make our tether invisible on radar until it is activated? So we have the choice of making a tether invisible on radar (but you can still hear it/see it if placed poorly) or visible on radar as the lure it was designed to be by activating the shadowshot while invisible.

It tends to do that if your experiencing some lag. It should activate immediately in my opinion. You've got roaming supers able to kill you twice but teather takes 40 years to activate
