A New Revelation In The Dreaming City

This is continuing off of my earlier post, A New Light In The Dreaming City. "Ugh. I'm starving." The Guardian said. It had been three days since Pulled Pork and his new Guardian escaped the clutches of a foul ogre, prowling the mists of the Dreaming City, searching for light-bearers to quash. After the Guardian's unfortunate death, the Ogre stomped away, leaving Pulled Pork the time to resurrect his Guardian. In the three days since then, the Guardian has found a few weapons lying around, most likely left by corsairs, and also had a few run-ins with more Taken and a few Scorn. Now, they had set up a small tent somewhere in the misty plains of the Dreaming City. "You've said that a thousand times, and I've told you a thousand times that the only thing here to eat is Scorn, and they taste like battery acid mixed with rotten flesh." Pulled Pork said, thoroughly annoyed with his Guardians repetitive complaining. "Well, I'd say it's more of charred wood put with toxic gas, but that's beside the point. The point is you keep talking about this 'Last City' and how great it is, but we're still here and you can't seem to find us a way out of here. So find us a ship or find me an edible food source." The Guardian huffed as he turned over, trying to fall asleep, though his hunger prevented that. "Fine. Tommorow, we look for another Guardian. There have to be a few still about, helping the Awoken and what not." Pulled Pork said as he settled down on a small rock that was inside the makeshift tent the Guardian rested in. "You still haven't really explained who I am. Or why I'm here." The Guardian said, looking at his hands again, clenching them and unclenching them. "Well, I don't know who you are, except that you're Awoken. That's a sort of species. You're human, but not. It's complicated and it's something I'm not well versed in. As for why you're here, I'm not sure of that either. Like I said, you must be old Awoken royalty." Pulled Pork said, shifting his eye from side to side, looking around the tent to amuse himself. The Guardian was discontent with the answer. "What do you mean 'old Awoken royalty'? There has to be a way to know who I was before you made me alive again, right?" The Guardian asked, sitting up and facing Pulled Pork. "Well, maybe. Do you have any jewelry or talismans on you? Those might be inscribed with your old name." Pulled Pork said as he lifted himself up and floated over to his Guardian. The Guardian patted himself on the chest, checking for anything hidden away. Though, as he did this, he noticed the ring he had been wearing, unaware of it's presence until now. "Uldren Sov" The Guardian muttered, reading the name of the ring. Pulled Pork stopped dead in the air. He froze, completely still. "What. Did. You. Just. Say?" Pulled Pork asked, a feeling of dread rising in him like lava in an active volcano. "Uldren Sov. That's the name on this ring. Do you know who I was?" Uldren asked. Pulled Pork let himself drop to the ground. He was dead inside. "Pork, what's wrong?" Uldren asked, squatting down to look at Pulled Pork. "You're Uldren Sov. How did I not see it." Pulled Pork said, his voice coated with misery. "Who was Uldren Sov? I mean, me. I mean, I." Uldren asked, becoming troubled at his Ghosts dismay. "Years of searching. Years. And out of all the corpses in the galaxy, the Traveller chose you." Pulled Pork said, sadness engulfing his voice. "What's wrong with me? What's wrong with my name? Did I do something bad?" Uldren asked. "Oh yes. You did something bad." Pulled Pork said. "What did I do?" Uldren asked, sitting down completely, intent to hear what troubled his Ghost so much. "Well, let's see," Pulled Pork said, his sadness turning to anger, "You assembled an army of undead fallen, you killed the Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6, and then, to top it all off, you killed most of the Awoken Reef population!" Pulled Pork realised he was directly in Uldren's face now, screaming as loud as he could. Uldren looked frightened. Confused. Pulled Pork realised this was not the same Uldren that killed Cayde. This was not Uldren Sov. This was someone new. "I'm sorry. That wasn't fair or nice. You didn't do those things. Old you did." Pulled Pork said, sinking back down to the ground. "I'm a monster." Uldren said, tears welling in his eyes. He turned to Pulled Pork. And then he began to sob. "No, don't cry. Please, stop. You're different now, you don't even remember it!" Pulled Pork said, attempting to calm his distressed Guardian down. "But I did it! It was me! I'm a monster!" Uldren screamed, suddenly standing up and bolting out of the tent, leaving his ring lying on the rocky ground. "Uldren, wait!" Pulled Pork cried as he dashed out of the tent to follow his Guardian, though Pulled Pork knew they would never make it to the Last City.
