Too much grind, not enough fun

Where did the fun go? (This is some feedback, if you don't like it it does not change my opinion of what Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is and I bet I am not alone.) Eververse has most of the interesting cosmetics which is fine for a free to play game but not fine for a game that you have to pay for and face it you have to pay for Shadowkeep and Forsaken. The Season Pass instead of being only cosmetics it actually contains gear that you get ahead of time if you pay more. Even seasonal, supposedly fun things are super grindy like upgrading the sparrow that requires you to probably complete about 200 strikes to get all the materials needed (if you upgrade you oven first by looking up the recopies online so you don't waste materials). The grind level is set to 11 at this point that only people who play this game as a job or no life it can actually "enjoy" the end game. Armor 2.0: Nice idea very bad execution if you consider the RNG to find matching pieces and the cost to upgrade is just absurd. They keep doing the same thing over and over, tired of it not doing it. If I have spent literally over a thousand hours in the game so far (it is probably more) I should be able to do endgame content but this is not really an MMO, this is a donkey with a carrot on a stick. Obviously I can play the game why am I not allowed to do all the content until I grind some more (waste my time some more, I am not immortal). I tried to give it another shot after a year break and since cross save is possible, but bad is bad. This is a game designed for streamers and people without a brain that can do the same boring things over and over and over and over and over and over and over......

  • I find the game fun I work full time I play when i can, normally after my kid goes to bed for a few hours and i hit season pass 104. I usually play on my Vita while watching TV on the couch, so i can enjoy TV during the long ass load times.

    • I feel streamers do feel the same way but they got to keep it professional. Not to mention they gotta keep whatever fan base they have entertained with the game they like playing.

      • I don't like the grind and so I had paused a while during the forsaken era. At that time I have seen my clan's people have changed: some getting deeper into this grinding, while some have dropped this game and move on . Grinding is never fun to me. Who would like to spend time on these after a day's real work? I don't know, perhaps those who aren't old enough to have a family or a mortgage to take care? I still like the days when D2 just released. It was less complicated and story-rich. I wish this style could be back, or maybe adding some newer elements, like breathing the 4th all ?

If this type of game isn't fun for you, stop, find something you do want to play your way, within your time limit.. other will continue to play Destiny and enjoy it. The target audience isn't you if you don't like it.

            • This is not meant as me trying to be a jerk towards you. If you are not enjoying Destiny, play something else for a bit, if Eververse is over priced and has the best things stop purchasing items. People are playing and People are purchasing from Eververse, that is why things are not getting addressed. Take PvP for example players have simply stopped playing, Bungie see's this and they are ok with this, they are working on it. Players will come back they always do, why? Quite simply other games suck more!

Don’t you mean too much bull shit & no fun at all. I’ve been playing destiny since 2014 and I can say that this has to be one of the worst seasons ever .... it’s not bad enough that they try to force players to do pvp when they have only done pve but wrecking the core of destiny by targeting the campaign missions by sidelining people with mandatory quests disguised as introductory to the game. Even a veteran player like myself can’t avoid being bogged down with endless garbage. So if it is bad enough for a player like myself to take note then bungie drastically needs to sort their shit out Ps: new light needs to be scrapped along with everything else attached to it

                • What do you mean. I like spending hours just running a lost sector in the Dreaming City shooting a bunch of scorn with a scout rifle in sprees of 3 just to get some stuff for a sundial obelisk I can’t even access unless I spawn into the EDZ 37 times....

I have to say, pre-Forsaken DLC I had taken a break from Destiny not due to any dislikes but just because life had gotten fairly busy. When I came back I was beyond impressed with the amount of activites and the additional content available to me. As such, I think it's fair to say that Forsaken will likely always exist as a high-point for the Destiny 2 life cycle for many other players as well as myself. That being said, the newest structure of the game's economy and content has shifted to a form that isn't as enjoyable as Destiny 2 has previously been, which is unfortunate. The gameplay itself is fun, as usual. The mechanics and abilities, the weapons are still part of what is so awesome about Destiny... Except the structure of missions and quests now, are less than desirable to puruse. While I'm still able to pick up quests and chip away at a lot of them over time, I think the concept of - which I originally thought would increase my interest - having these timed seasons, missions and unlocks change and disappear before I can put a real dent in them is what has deterred a lot of my desire to be active. Bungie is always will to listen but they cant please everyone and I understand that entirely. The shift in design is even something I wouldn't say is "bad" just because it doesn't fit my own personal preferences. In fact, I give them credit for trying to experiment with different approaches while trying to incorporate things they believe the Community at large will enjoy. But hopefully in the future with all of the feedback they've received, some improvements will be made to alter the sort of feeling of "You need to play a lot within this timeframe or else the purchase you made for this season won't be entirely worth it's complete and potential value." Either way, I hear what you're saying OP. I commend the dev team for trying to feel out different approaches to fun, and to ensure content continues to flow and entertain, but I don't think the current iteration is the best fit.

                    • The game is being tuned for players who enjoy the grind. And—at the end of the day—all “grinding” is...is simply playing the game. The problem with loot games is some players enjoy getting loot, but don’t really enjoy playing the game itself. Has a former clan mate like that. He always farms the game for what he thinks the best gear is...than stops playing until the next big content drop. Nothing wrong with playing games like that. But this game is not being designed with that play style in mind anymore.

                      • I have fun when I'm not grinding but simply lazily enjoying strikes, gambit and crucible while chatting with friends or soloing crucible and gambit. I am not enjoying the actual grindy seasonal content at all.

                      • I played about halfway through last season when they opened that super meaningful gate in the tower. Haven't done a single thing since, the game just doesn't pull me in like it used to. Lack of loot, dumb as hell armour system lame reskinned guns and nerfed to death exotics and pinnacle gear.

I probably in the minority here but all the grinding is fun to me. Unless it makes me do -blam!- stuff.

Bungie: "GRINDS! GRINDS EVERYWHERE, FOR EVERYTHING! GRINDS FOR COMMON MATS! GRINDS FOR BASIC PROGRESSION! Need to use the restroom? GRINDS FOR THAT TOO!"

This seasonal shit has tore apart so many clans and friendslists. Im on like my 6th clan since forsaken. Friends dropping like flies. There used to be like 60 of us, all hardcore, then dwindled to 30, then 10, then 5 or 6. Eventualy we didnt even have a raid team. Finaly last week most of my longtime friends and team mates quit. The last 4 of us merged into a buddies clan. I dunno where they go from here. I have like most of savior done, so im gonna finish up the season, but i cant see myself doing more chores next season, might just call it quits lol

                              • I just stopped playing literally after Saint-XIV came back to The Tower. Sure I was hyped about a legendary figure showing up. Then I saw the same old "go back to the same things you've done countless times before" quests. Devils Ruin just came out and I don't even care. It looks fun, but I'm just going to end up doing the same old tired shit I've been doing since release. As far as grind goes...I don't care if there's a grind...just make it -blam!-ing interesting. Either make the guns/gear worth the effort or make the grind actually enjoyable/engaging....preferably both.
