Jorge, the Spanish/Portuguese name, is used by Jorge in Halo Reach. It is not pronounced George like the English name, although it is the English equivalent of George. So why is it pronounced "George" by Noble Team in Halo Reach? And why is Jorge using this name if his accent isn't Spanish/Portuguese?

Jorge is a common name here in Spain. In the spanish version of Halo (with spanish voices) at least is pronounce like we pronounce Jorge in Spanish, not George. For the other hand Emile (for example) is pronunce like english language at not like in Spanish. In any case it's a simple curiosity.
Posted by: your eyes I don't want to accuse Bungie of not doing their research, but it almost seems like they gave Jorge a Asian/Indian accent (Jorge's voice actor is Asian/Indian) and then gave the character the name Jorge thinking that it was an Indian name?
Really? Jorge's voice actor is Asian/Indian? Really? How about you try again. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0434444/ In the case of Jorge's name being pronounced "George", it's because in this case it's greek. http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Jorge.html So... rethink your theory. Edit: Link fail :( Edit2: Pronunciation fail... lol Who knew the greeks pronounced their Jorges as (Hor hay). [Edited on 10.04.2010 1:49 AM PDT]

Problem is, is that Jorge is from Reach, which is a primarily-Eastern European inhabited planet, which is why Jorge knows Space-Hungarian when he talked to the girl in Winter Contingency. Also, remember that the name "Jorge" was given to him by the UNSC.

Situation: Year 2500+, civilization spread to other worlds. Expected: All names and pronunciations remain the same. Makes sense.

It is 500 years in the future, take a time machine and go ask them what happen.
-
Well with 500 years between now and then I am sure the mixture of languages would create new spelling or pronounciation of words.

I don't know, why do I know an Asian guy named Jose? His parents felt like being unique apparently.

My name is Nichqqqquaaldzzaaolas. The qqqquaaldzzaa is silent. I'm not sure actually, I guess that's just how Bungie works :D
