The Infusion Problem Will Get Worse Each Season

I think most people can agree that the community is growing more and more sour each season over the infusion system and a big part of that has to do with the amount of gear we use. Forsaken was when I minded the least amount the current infusion system and that was due to the fact I was replacing almost all of my Year 1 gear. I went in knowing I was starting fresh so my mindset was "out with the old, in with the new" and it wasnt until around Light 550 that I really started to consider infusing. Forsaken also had a noticeably thin loot pool which again meant I was only bringing along a handful of items at a time. Black armory was when I really started to feel constant annoyance with system. The content drop had a lot of really cool weapons that I added into my rotation... and now needed to be brought up to level. I've always liked to change at least a few armor sets each season and now those too had to be brought along. Halfway through the season, with all the content done on my main, I had to make a choice about next season. Do I level my alts or do I horde materials for next season? I like to give my alts different weapons to give them a different feel and experiment with new stuff, but investing the materials in two more weapon sets at a least two more armor sets just seemed like a waste. This problem is going to grow each season because the more we play, the more things we want to use we'll acquire and the more time we'll have to waste grinding out materials. This isn't a meaningful choice. This is a choice between doing content I like (grinding strikes, playing my alts, gambit prime, raids, forges) or running around doing busy work for Spider for one core. Scarcity of cores isnt the issue, the sources exist. The problem is ITS NOT FUN. I'd rather be running the raid on my alt, trying a new loadout than running the same dumb Spider bounty I've been doing for 7 months. Yes I can afford to pay it because I horde materials but its sucking time away from content I enjoy and leaves me feeling like playing alts are a waste of materials. To be clear, I personally have enough cores. I play 2+ hours a day and I've played since year one of D1. My problem is the system as its currently constituted is not fun. I want to level 3 characters with unique gear so I can do content I enjoy with variety. I want to try new armor and weapon builds across all characters without endlessly rerunning boring bounties. I was pretty much able to do that for 4 years so the idea that now I can is frustrating. Each season will add new gear which will add to the cost to bring that gear forward with my old gear meaning this problem will only get worse the longer the system is unchanged or only gets band-aid fixes.

  • I've got a stockpile of 300 cores. But that stockpile came from sacrifice which has hurt my enjoyment of the game. I'm a couple ticks from 700 now, so I'm FINALLY feeling free to blow through some of my stockpile to infuse up all the weapons and gear I actually want to use. Usually I wait until max but screw it I'm 698 and I'm sick of using trash gear.

  • In last week's TWAB we shared the current plan to update the sources of cores. We have seen the feedback that this change is not what a large part of the community wants and that most of you want Enhancement Cores removed from the cost of infusion. We sent a summary of the response to the dev team this morning.

The thing is that in D1 we didn’t have to put up with this garbage and by the time the age of triumph came around they had finally fixed the infusing system and it actually worked unlike the setup we have in D2 which is a total disaster maybe if bungie should used some commonsense and things might be a lot better. #Remove enhancement cores from infusing

      • Its already reached critical mass. A significant portion of the community has already decided they aren't willing to grind the current system.

Why are people arguing for a pain point that doesn't effect them. As someone who plays almost every day, I hate it when I see people in here who say, "infusion ins't a problem I got hundreds of cores stockpiled in my inventory." If you have hundreds of them then why are you supporting them. Imagine being a casual player who can only play an hour or two a day. I highly doubt that any casual player wants to sit around and wait for a half hour for a high value target to farm for cores. I think this issue single-handedly drives casual players (a large portion of players) away from the game. This current infusion system doesn't let you look the way you want or play the way you want unless you have cores to spare for infusion. Enhancement cores should be used as a system for mastery, NOT a system for progression. Take cores out of infusion and put them somewhere else that doesn't effect the casual players experience.

If you don't read all of this, I don't blame you. But if you do, I think everyone will be able to relate, or at the very least, understand To everybody, especially Bungie, attempting to justify a broken system, please hear my perspective. I have defended Destiny for the past what, 5 years? I'm a day 1 D1 veteran who has always shut down the haters. I support bungie through thick and thin. But I also have no lifed this game and I hoarde. So I have every material I will ever need. I have thousands of crucible tokens, vanguard tokens, raid tokens, etc to help my lagging titan level up whenever needed. I have thousands of gunsmith materials, hundreds of MW cores, and hundreds of mods components (not going to waste them now until infusion cost is changed). I am far from the typical person complaining because he didn't put in the time that another player did. I am also in a select group of players like me whose progress and stock of materials should not dictate the economy for average players. With this being said, I now have a unique perspective of the game. After years of me hoping she would, my gf has finally begun Destiny. I now see the massive flaw with this game. She has been leveling quickly due to my guidance and tips (which would be substantially more difficult if she didn't have someone like me to help her maximize efficiency while still having fun.) But here's what sucks: I was so excited when she got raiden flux, for example. She loves arcstrider. So for about half an hour at best, she loved the exotic perk from RF. Once it was outclassed by about 20 levels, she has never worn it since. How about Origin Story or Kibou? I was stoked once again since she loves auto rifles. 20 minutes later, she never used those two again. She is always maxed on glimmer and has a fair amount of planetary materials, so if infusion was legit cost, she could still be using some of these coveted items. But no. She has 1 masterwork core. Wtf is she gonna do? She doesn't complain much, cause we are having fun but she is missing out on using all the best legendaries and exotics the game has to offer. Instead of getting excited about a drop (which I know to be an exciting drop), she simply doesn't give a shit, because it might as well just be another blue item to her, soon to be outleveled by the next drop. Hello?! Isn't a huge part of Destiny being excited about drops? C'mon, I'm sure we can all agree here. This is a problem. To demand a new or casual player use blue gear mixed with mediocre purples from level 0 all way to level 700 is a massive -blam!-ing problem and an astoundingly shortsighted position to take. She does not grind like me, so it will be a long time before she hits 700, and once she does, unless I get her to farm Spyder bounties instead of doing the fun stuff we enjoy, she still will not be able to infuse anything, let alone ever masterwork a -blam!-ing gun. I hope my perspective hits home with somebody at Bungie. I am as much a veteran as you can get, and I have a rookie gf, and seeing how diminishing the experience is for her is truly a shame. Every exotic she gets is vaulted. What's the point? Most of them being mission rewards are underleveled anyways. Bungie, don't you want people to enjoy the legendaries and exotics in this game? Why waste the substantial efforts of the gear development team? Why cripple so much of the playerbase? This is absolutely absurd. I actually used to be one of the ones defending enhancement cores for infusion. I get it completely: level smart, use same gear pieces, use exotics, pull from collections, use the Brother Vance farm, don't infuse every 10 levels, etc, I've heard it all and done it all. Yet I see past all that now, having a unique perspective from both a no lifer's and a noob's point of view. Removing cores from infusion causes zero issues. Absolutely zero. There's no emotional feeling I get from infusing. That's a bullshit excuse from Bungie to make us play longer, to attempt to excuse the chores they want us to do. Keeping them as part of infusion only causes headaches, less fun, more tedious tasks, and more people leaving the game. My gf and I have been having fun together in D2, but there's another D2 that just came out that doesn't seem to have one glaring major issue that the community constantly asks to be fixed.... maybe we will try that out soon. Because blues and shitty purples can only keep a player interested for so long. #removecoresfrominfusion Sincerely, A lifelong Destiny veteran and defender, who has finally seen the light, and I can only hope Bungie listens. PS Paul Tassi Forbes article says it perfectly. TL:DR The economy should not be dictated by people like me who have no-lifed this game and hoarded for years. We will always have more than everyone else; so be it. But allow everyone else to enjoy the game too, and not be crippled because of the no-lifers and their outrageous stock of materials. They are not hurting anyone by having a bunch of materials, but Bungie is hurting everyone else by dictating economy according to these select players with tons of everything. Edit: I made this it's own post so hopefully more can see it: Thanks for the positive feedback https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/251441917?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1

                • This. This is exactly how I feel, it made some sense when we were refreshing our gear from the old to the new system but now with so much in the mix and wanting to use different combinations of gear and loadouts it makes it almost impossible to do with the current system. I can only level up one character because I fear I may run out of cores for my main, and I dont have time to do spider bounties, I want to be playing the activities I want to play.

                • I’m just gonna post this in everyone of these, It’ll be a nice fix and I think people can get behind it. A good fix would be to remove them from infusion, make them only for masterworking, re-rolling the masterwork, re-roll specific perks. How about even allow you to enhance blue gear to legendary quality giving an additional perk, and increased stats; some of the blue gear is pretty nice.

                • The problem with the core system is not for the hardcore player or the streamer. We already have all perfect rolls masterworked and run our accounts off glimmer. The problem is the casual and new player. The time sink with 4 levels raises per year and this infusion system prohibits them from playing the game how they enjoy it.
The Infusion Problem Will Get Worse Each Season
I didn't read your post, not because it was too long it's just knowing Bungie literally turned this game into a game mainly about infusion, max level and grinding for material when the game should be about grinding for loot. The thing about reaching max whether it was just LL or PL in this game it literally means nothing because no one has or ever will need max to complete anything in this game. The thing about infusion is there is more than enough material but not enough loot added to the game to where gamers want to infuse items. The thing about the material is what I already said, and that is there is more than enough but nothing to really use the material on when it comes to infusing items let alone use as a currency in this game to purchase items. The lack of effort put in this game as a looter shooter has hurt this game more than anything else. I don't buy games just to grind for material especially when there isn't anything really to use that material on that is worth leveling up that some items are capped not allowing certain gear that might be worth using to be allowed to use the new mods. What did Bungie add to this game as far as loot with this new season? Barely anything at all so I'm stuck like we are all having to go through the same process as we already did with what, 1 new set of gear and barely anything else to chase?
If anyone has hundreds of cores and other materials stacked up on their Guardian or in their vault as some brag about? (That is a Huge problem,) this means most things are not worth leveling up and you have all this material just stacking up for nothing. I don't care what anyone says, in D1 there was enough loot in the game that only some material stacked up as bad as most of the material does in D2. So all you gamers that brag about having more than enough material? Just a heads up, in a game that is supposed to be (a looter shooter?) the material isn't anything to brag about when there isn't any loot to use it on. It is just saying (you) spent hundreds of hours just grinding for material and material is not what this game need right now. It needs actual loot to chase.
I think you make some valid points. Speaking with our time now appears to be our only option IMO. Bungie keeps crushing the Dream instead of keeping it alive. If this is to change we need to speak with our time played. I like Gambit but black Armory and Gambit are not the type of mainstream content, which I thought I would be getting spending my money on preorders the last year for multiple licenses. Bungie’s past decisions to remove character content or in/world content rather than adding appropriate in game story updates season after season is liable too kill this franchise but time will tell. My expectations to this point have been WAY to high I guess for what Destiny could become with effort by Bungie? No evolution so far or what I believe many thought Destiny was going to be years ago instead what we have is a jumble of sequels with little innovation. Please humor me but as an example, If the evolution of the original Mass Effect trilogy upon its conclusion (the milestone or bar it set....not the ending! ) was like America going to the moon. Bungie with Destiny had the potential to evolve similarly to leaving our solar system. Instead to this point, Bungie, ‘we’ (our characters) figuratively, have only rarely left Earths orbit but return shortly after again and again to just do it all repeatedly over again ‘IF’ each season, you pay for the privilege of accessing the latest seasonal drop. Bungie \ (Activision-Blizzard previously) when the rubber hits the road appears satisfied with circling the earth or sending out a probe or three into the blackness and not really even trying to go back to the moon much less make it past mars or the Kuiper belt or beyond to make Destiny the EPIC evolution we thought we would get over 10 years. Unfortunately, what we got mostly since Destiny now with D2 is a hodgepodge group of sequels well short of any evolution of one game world. Bungie now has my money since I bought into the annual pass early and really did not know what gambit was going to be before the purchases getting them when I did , so shame on me. My family, 3 of us who played on separate accounts close to everyday since D1 for years would ‘NEVER’ have asked for MoRe of the PVP \ PVE hybrid Gambit or more escalation protocol esc.... content like Forge \ Blindwell! Now Destiny has turned into a world of grind until you either wear your controller or console out or just turn it off out of frustration with horrible matchmaking, rng content drops, timed bounties and repetitive gated activities. With Activision gone Bungie now has the driver seat and ‘WAS’ probably limited previously by contract or content already somewhat in the pipeline so we are stuck with a season of no real depth once more today. Just remember ‘If’ you do feel that Bungie has not been listening the last couple years overall like I do ( how long ‘minimum’ these new seasons can be conceptualized, brought online and tested) then speak with your time now and your wallet in the future first. Don’t buy into ‘ANY’ future pre-release content until we see some changes that are what we have been asking to see for many years. What ‘WE’ have been asking for, for many years is, more story, more access to everything removed over most seasons or not made fully useable, relevant or compatible as Destiny has move forward and what ‘most on the forum repetitively have requested who aren’t internet streamers. We want new depth which has been mostly missing within D2 and for me, most of all....no more damn sequels having to re-earn content billed as ‘new’ which we previously owned in the past seasons. Bungie make Destiny great. Give Destiny the Golden age, open world, all inclusive evolution and content imagined years ago when you pitched Destiny to us over 10 years. There is still time for Destiny be EPIC.

The problem with cores is that they are required for end game. But they are tied to early game activity that can deplete the players stash. What I mean by this, is just when we think we reached end game, they go and raise the light level and we have to start saving and grinding again. All for a resource that's already so scarce because they are drip feeding them to us. Just no need for using cores for "infusion". Masterworks, yeah ok. But infusion? No need, literally. Charge glimmer. Not to mention that this is all because they are running out of ideas to keep us engaged and they have recycled so much content they are running out of stuff to reskin. This is why we have time gated exotic gear. They are running out of fresh ideas. When all they have to do is read these forums and the players are literally saying what they would like. I know you can't please everyone, but still.

Started at forsaken, really enjoyed it, took 3 characters to 600, bought the annual pass, went to 650, really enjoyed BA, started to hate the grind for cores, new season approached, couldn’t stomach the grind for cores all over again, result? Stopped playing. I’m now on my second character in the division 2.

                          • Same here. The season after Forsaken dropped was when I got fed up with the fact that I masterworked all my armor and weapons for nothing. Truth is once masterworked an item should never require cores for infusion again. That would make masterworking meaningful instead of what it is now... meaningless. I stopped playing about three months ago for a month, came back for maybe two days to find no new content in our promised "trickle of content ", read the plan for Season of the Drifter, and haven't been back since except to sign in if Xur has anything I don't have(which I check online before signing in). I'm so fed up with the bad decisions being made I don't want to contribute my number to the daily playerbase, even to play D1 just in case that gets counted(which it might since the owner of Destinytracker is such a sycophant). My main sticking point is the core infusion combined with the seasonal power increases that happen for no reason. It's blatantly meant to inflate playtime numbers without creating new content. Until they either remove cores from infusion, allow masterworked items to not require further cores, or start having cores drop from everything in the game( strike= 2 cores, pvp match =2 cores, Public event= 1 core, 2 patrols =1 core, etc) I'm out. I'm not the only one fed up obviously either... the playerbase is reclining even more than the numbers show, since it's a serious issue when new content doesn't bring the daily population up... and worse... it's actually going down.

                            • Season of Oppulence will launch, upping the power cap to 750 with no improved levelling system (they took away our ability to save powerful bounties across seasons, but replaced it with...nothing). The new raid will launch 3 days after and the final encounter will be 750 power, meaning 741 is the optimal minimum to beat it comfortably. Streamers will zoom up past 730, the average joe might make it to 710 if they get lucky drops, they don't get to participate in the inevitable 24 hour-completion-exclusive-emblem world's first race. Most people will get burnt out by having to grind milestones again, as whatever new content is added will probably only give out 1 weekly powerful reward which won't help. Infusion cores will dwindle as people race to level up for the brand new pinnacle activity that Destiny fans love so much and people will end up wearing whatever crap they end up with because they can't infuse the gear they want. People will be booted from LFG groups because using Orpheus Rigs or Protocol or Skull will put them too low level and they can't do anything about it. People will complain, others will complain that the complainers shouldn't have wasted cores by daring to use them. Bungie introduces 1 core as a reward for beating the new raid each week.

                            • The next raid boss should be a giant Masterwork Core.

Bungie has ran out of ideas guys. They are prolonging shit at this point. Reskinning everything, bugs that they seem to take forever to fix..... This isn't at all "random". This is ALL to drag out content. They are out of ideas and have us chasing our tails until they can come up with more BS. Timegating exotics, powerful drops being lower or right at our current levels. ...all feels like it was planned. I could be wrong, but it's too many coincidences. But the biggest clue? The one that hits the nail on the head? The LACKLUSTER content that has been dropping. So they take regular Gambit gear and put snakes on it? Pinnacle weapons are all reskinned (of course). The one exotic weapon for this DLC seems to be time gated as well. The only thing people can do at this point is quit playing collectively, to make a statement. Anything less is just like the movie groundhogs day....same shit, different day.
