Today I got the Huckleberry catalyst (super late, I know) and I thought "hey, let's try it out in crucible!" So I hit up IB, and think "this gun has rampage and reloads part of the mag upon a kill, should be pretty good!"
*shotgun deaths intensify*
"okay, so SMGs are still pretty bad on console for crucible. That's an issue, but let's work on this catalyst in the Dreaming City for a bit then."
*using entire clips on all but the most basic of enemies*
"okay, so...... it can't kill most things in PVP, partly because SMGs have to compete with shotguns, and recoil is a thing on console, and it can't kill like anything in PVE, outside of thralls."
What's the point of the Huckleberry? The catalyst gives it something it desperately needs, but just the weapon itself feels incredibly underwhelming.
Call me crazy, call me a bad shot, that's totally fair. But I really feel like this here Tex Mechanica SMG should be a fair bit more powerful than it currently is. Thoughts?

Keep practicing.

It melts adds because kills with the masterwork reload the mag COMPLETELY. So you get the ramped up RoF and don’t need to worry about reloading if there are lots of adds. It’s really nice for clearing waves in Gambito, and for the first part of Spire.

I'm on PC, so I'm not sure how we're going to compare. Personally when I worked on Catalyst it was fairly useful for me on Mercury (where I farmed Lost Prophecies crafting materials). It works quite well against low-health enemies, allowing Breakneck-like or Riskrunner-like performance in certain conditions. Not just on Mercury, but Infinite Forest generally offers mix of all races in game bar Taken. While I keep mine in Vault, as I have other guns for exotic spot, I regularly see other gamers using it, both in free roam and in semi-public activities such as strikes or Gambit. Guess their equipment is better suited for SMG, as their reloading speed is faster than that I remember.
