Why does Bungie Hate Hunters. UPDATE: more Hunter Nerfs on the way

Before all the hate mail comes in, yes, I main Hunter. I main Hunter because when I started playing Destiny, that’s what I chose and what I am use to. Over the past year plus playing D2, it seems that every time a nerf happens, it is to Hunters. Some, perhaps deserved, but when the other classes keep getting buffed it feels like Hunters go the other way. Nerfs: Invisibility capabilities from early d2. Nerfed. Wormhusk. Nerfed. Jesters Nerfed Let’s do some comparisons: Grenades. Hunters probably have the weakest grenades of all if you consider both Titans and Warlocks have a pulse grenade that not only has insane damage, but stays on the point. Before you say no way, then explain how Titans start and finish most engagements with a grenade when running a tree that supports pulse grenades as do Warlocks. OHK Capability: Warlocks have a OHK void grenade that is constantly used. Titans obviously have shoulder charge Hunters: none. Doesn’t seems like that big of a deal until you play Competitive where lives matter and quick easy kills are critical. Supers: Warlocks. NovaWarp is dominating here. Amazing fast, has blink, heals on kill. Others supers are average. Titans: Hammers remain strong, smash is very good if used right. Sentinel with shield is really good. Titans are very fast and hard to take down. Hunter: blade barrage is very good. Can shutdown other supers. Easy to get at least one kill. Arcstrider. Can be very good if used right, but easy to run or fly away from. Golden gun can be good. Very easily killed or just hidden from. Spectral blades (finally a buff, due to the fact that it totally sucked). Actually very effective, when used right. Still too slow to catch Titans. Overall Supers seem pretty fair with the exception of Nova Warp healing ability back to full health. Speed: Warlocks and Hunters about the same. Titans, by far the fastest with skating and shoulder charge abilities. Healing: Warlocks. Rift Titans: none Hunters: wormhusk, but very limited and requires exotic slot. Overshield: Hunters and warlocks none. Titans can get on kill Melee: Titans: synthocep. Hunters: average. Generally lose melee battles with titans or warlocks. Warlocks: dominates . Can heal with exotic gauntlet When it comes down to it, the only real advantage I see to Hunters is their movement ability. I am sure that I am biased and I am positive that I have left things out, but this is how I see the current state of things when comparing the classes. I am seeing several Hunter Mains moving to Warlock and Titan as the incentive to play Hunter is quickly being eliminated when considering all the positives to the other classes. To be clear, I don’t think Hunters need a buff. Just wish the nerfs would stop while other classes are bufffed. BREAKING NEWS: Update 2.1.4 is coming out and guess what. More Nerfs to Hunters. Blade Barrage and Spectral Blades are getting Nerfs. Surprise!!!!! But but but they are buffing golden gun, pole dancer, and worthless shadow shot. Yes, the Supers that nobody uses are getting buffs. None that will actually make any difference though. Well done once again Bungie. You just fixed Spectral Blades like a couple weeks ago and already a nerf. Warlocks: nova Warp is getting nerfed. Finally ... has dominated for literally weeks Other classes for warlocks all getting buffs. Titans: .... drum please ... NO NERFS and more buffs for all classes. Bungie, your bias is so evident now it’s unreal. This may be the final update required for me to quit Destiny. Perhaps you should just call it “Clash of the Titans” since every update makes them better and eventually will be all that anyone plays with or can compete. As for me, I have way too much time into my Hunter and am not taking time to become a Titan.

  • As a Hunter main whos played Destiny since D1 Beta, I completely agree with this post. Hunters have been in a rough patch ever since early D1 crucible, when Bungie couldn't figure out how to balance blade dancer and golden gun, so they just nerfed both to the ground. Bungie, in my opinion, never fully knew how to balance the assassin style of the hunter, so they just made them the weakest of the three so that people would stop complaining. If you don't believe me, check the forums. You'll see people complaining all the time about the weaknesses of the hunter, but close to none regarding the weaknesses of the other two classes. The new Forsaken Hunter supers are good, but can hardly compete with the other supers of different classes. Arc staff and spectral blades against nova warp, hammers, maul, and chaos reach (unless close ranged), will almost never beat them in a 1 v 1. Blade Barrage is the only thing that Hunters have that can absolutely destroy anything, same as Thundercrash for the Titans. But even now, blade barrage hunters have sketchy damage as the super is very situational in damage against other supers. I agree the Shards of Galanor are an OP exotic (because Im sure someone is going to say that hunters are op because of it), but there are so many other exotics for the other two classes that do the same thing (Ursas for Titans and Geomag Stabilizers for Warlocks). While I agree that shards of galanor need nerfing, I'm very nervous on them actually being nerfed because theyre one of the few things that hunters have in crucible that make them actually viable. Also, with most hunter supers besides blade barrage and tether, you can out run them. You can easily outrun arc strider and spectral blades (I know because I use both in crucible and people outrun me all the time). But, with striker titans, they'll just charge you until they can catch up with you and OHK you; and with nova warp, their outrageous range will kill you even if youre about 10 feet in front of them. I think that there are a lot of things wrong with crucible at the moment (outrageous shotgun ranges, shitty maps, telesto in general, and much more), but I also think that Hunters have suffered for a long time. If Bungie truly doesn't know how to balance them, then they need to eliminate them and make a new class that they have more understanding of. I'm tired of my favorite class getting stepped on all the time and then people complaining that theyre still op. And for all the people that will tell me to just switch to Titan or Warlock, I have both maxed out but my heart lies with my Hunter.

    The nerfs to the 3 things you mentioned were plaguing the crucible when people got around to using them. Gemini removing your hud through walls was ridiculous when this game is so heavily reliant on radar and your reticle. It never should have been a thing in the first place, ESPECIALLY on a 25 second cool down that could be reduced due to bottom tree arcstrider. Wormhusk was stupid during it's time because it was a primary meta. No one shots, no powerful grenades, nothing. It couldn't be countered because it had no detriment to be used. Just double tap crouch behind a wall for full health...hooray. Invis was also a plague because it removed console aim assist, something critical to consoles due to the sheer lack of control. It needed to be removed as it was absolutely ridiculous how they could always start an engagement out of no where or run away because my guns seem to stop targeting the Hunter, which could have also been paired with Gemini or wormhusk if they didn't nerf it. Imagine how dumb that would be with the way the meta is now. And you said the hunters have weak grenades...so? They have versatility to them over damage. Skips track, swarm hover in place, arcbolts don't require any set up. Pretty much every grenade titans have have to be placed well to be effective for damage, minus like pulse grenades. What I think though, is that the hunters utility isn't reliant on power or health regen and that's why a lot of people see them as bad or useless for crucible. They are designed more to kill enemies from a distance while keeping themselves light on their feet. For the supers that have to come in close, they have abilities to close the gap that costs them pretty much nothing to use. The dodge or invis on spectral. For titans, it's kind of just run in there and hope it works out because of how short lived the supers are, but, they pack a lot of super stopping power because of it. This is also how a majority of the titans subclasses and abilities work. Punch it to death or be killed. Like, if they didn't have the power they did, but had the same effective range, they would be awful. This is what year1 Destiny 1 was like for titans. Besides shoulder charge, lightning grenade, and the glitchy titan skating, titans had no power and even less range than they do now. They had no mobile supers, the worst shutdown super (in year 1) and a bubble which got popped in 2 hits, or instantly killed with the titan inside by a nova bomb. The titans VERY aggressive playstyle HAS TO be backed with power and regenerative abilities otherwise it would be incredibly difficult to compete. Even now, it becomes difficult to make use of this power in crucible when shotguns are running rampant. One eyed mask is like a god send for playing aggressive (not that it isn't ridiculous) in this meta because a lot of their abilities are so heavily reliant on being close, but there are just so many countermeasures in place. Hell, besides sentinel and sunbreaker, you really dont get much use out ofthe remainder of the class for crucible. Fists of havoc gets stomped by how powerful special is and it's lack of ability for gap closing. If it's in there though, you pretty much won't live. But enough of that, that was going kind of off topic.

    • As a hunter, I don’t feel too hated. Sure, certain abilities and paths still suck (every class has one of those) but we’ve still got plenty of strong ones now. Shards of galanor is one of the most potent exotics with a even more potent super. It’s amazing. Spectral blades makes arc blade wish it was this powerful in its prime. The invisibility buff to both duration and armor pairs fantastically. Its so much better as a super now and gwisin vest makes the limit the sky. We’ve also got the shitty tripmines that decide to be generous to idiots that run through giant red lights, low damage throwing knives (that DON’T need to OHK), and probably the worst neutral game ever in way of the outlaw for gunslinger. Golden gun needs another giant PvE damage buff but otherwise hunters are still top picks for raids and such.

      • All I care abouts is SoG not being ruined in pve for use in raids and everything else I do .. The fkn crucibabies get shit ruined.. Also a really huge fkn issue is the amount of people who cry for the most part only use ONE class.. So they have absolutely zero knowledge of how shit works.. Seeing shit on youtube doesnt mean anything.. If you dont use exotics or supers etc to see for yourself how it actually works than how can anyone speak on it.. Theres an even better solution.. Grow a pair of balls and quit crying for nerfs on everything because the fkn people who do ruin the game for me .. A person who enjoys using all 3 characters

                I main hunter too but titans have a way to heal; crest of alphalupi (I am sure I misspelled that) but they need to use the barricade and I think be near it?

                • Hunters dominate the crucible with their easy skill gap. Golden gun is the best super and has ruled crucible for every year of destiny. Dodge is instant and can be used effectively as opposed to rift and barricade where both have activation times. Throwing knife does need a buff but only to restore D1 values, not to 1 shot. Grenades are fine except tripmine. Should also be restored to D1 values like throwing knives. Spectral blades and blade barrage are phenomenal supers. Pole dancer with reflect is nasty when used right. Stompees are one of the best neutral exotics there is and gwisin/shards haven’t been nerfed like ursa. I’d say hunters are pretty good right now

                    It annoys Bungie that most players main hunters so they nerf them every chance they get to try to push players to play as circus clown titans🎪🤡and cross dressing warlocks👗👚🧙‍♂️.

                      • Heyo, ive been around since D1 vanilla (warlock main). I can see where your coming from and I feel like all people who main their class look at it in this sort of way, but specifically for hunters (from an outside viewpoint) I believe are the most viable and tailored for crucible combat. Their nerfs have never seemed to be a pve problem but mostly an imbalance in pvp. Before anyone goes sicko mode on me please keep in mind this is just my opinion.

                        • As a Hunter main, I disagree. Grenades are solid. Almost all supers are good besides tether. Best movement in the game. Dodge is very useful. Throwing knives could use a damage buff though (not a OHK).

                            What do you mean Best jump Best aerial combat Best class to shotgun with Best class to snipe with Best class to slide with The best supers Best neutral game Best synergy Most viable supers BTW warlocks don't dominate melee game at all. They have the slowest melee even when you melee first an enemy can use two melees before a warlock can. You're completely undermining your whole class as a while to justify your thinking. Spectral blades is a league above nova warp. Blade barrage is better than any shutdown super. Arcstrider is one of the best roaming supers. Golden Gun is better then any projectile super. Take away nova warp what does warlock have to offer?

                                Bungie: Buffs spectral blades from being one of the worst supers to arguable the best super, and gives hunters nova bomb but better in every way with an absolutely amazing exotic to go with it in the form of blade barrage and shards. Hunters: “hur dur why do bungie hate us”

                                  • Sorry, I disagree. I main a hunter (but play all three classes) and I think the game is in a pretty balanced place right now, no class feels overly dominant. Nova Warp lasts too long but other than that all classes have their good and bad points. For me hunters may not be as fast as titans but they are a lot more agile and that’s why I main one.

                                      • first of all, I main hunter. I don't think we need a buff. In response to your healing comments about hunters/titans not having healing abilities is because that is not how they are meant to play. Warlocks in general are meant to have the highest healing of the three. In response to OHK abilties for hunter, I think we could have one, but not in the form of throwing knife. I find myself to outrun titans and warlocks all the time. If you want an overshield, just revive someone. Hunter grenades are fine. They don't need changing. Spectral blades are very easy to catch titans running. Also, from one hunter to another, 6 shot golden gun is extremely fun to run around with in crucible. In response to your nerf list, invis and wormhusk were problems that were needed to be adressed. Good day to you. Hunters are fine.
