The Problem with Shotsguns in D2 (PVP)

The problem with SG in D2 are -Range. They out range a lot of Fusion Rifles and Smgs -They are the only guns without a delay before you can shoot while sprinting. -You can shoot 5 rapid shots before two charges of a fusion rifle with a rapid frame 3 with full auto. The fact is all the nerfs From D1 that put them in a good place sp Fusions could have a spot were reverted because they were move to the heavy slot. Now that they are moved back to special ammo they need to be fix to match that. More so cause now we get free ammo. And For and fairness sake give them the same delay before you can shoot while sprinting as every other gun class in the game. The fact that you can run shotgun in virtually not even stop is BS.

    Shotgun range is an issue I agree with you on that, even if it’s possibly only two shotguns those are the ones I’m seeing all the time. If shotguns weren’t such an unbalanced easy way to get kills there wouldn’t be almost everyone in PvP running with them, pvp streamers wouldn’t make videos telling you it’s important to learn how to use a shotgun, bungie wouldn’t have moved them to the power slot in d2, and tons of people wouldn’t have begged for them to move it back. Pvp has turned into a game of shotguns, Luna howls, and telestos. Unless bungie wants to buff every gun in the game they need to do something major because pvp is in the worst state it’s ever been since launch.

      • Shotguns need a range buff! Crucible isn’t the the only game mode in Destiny. Pvp has ruined this game ENOUGH, it’s time Bungie took care of the pve players for a change! The weapons aren’t the problem in Destiny, pvp is. . Pvp needs an overhaul.

        • Get a bow, play the lanes not the corner and use range grenades like arcbolt or firebolt to finish them off when the run back around the corner. Limit their playstyle, not play to it.

          • Smgs are dead. All except probably a newer antiope D type SMG with a decent extra perk. Shotguns are in the perfect place, if you want to run around tight corners and expect to get close range kills with anything else but a sword. It will always be a shotgun. This whole post is pointless. Meta is meta, camp in a corner with graviton Lance Idk what to tell you. The map variety all favours close encounters. Its not the guns.

            • How many shots do you get to start and per brick for shotguns? I would say they needed toned down just a touch. I really think the rapid fires ones should ONLY kill you if they’re on top of you; should prob have to land a quick melee after to kill. Their range should be touched down just a tad. I use a really nice fusion setup, and get a lot of shotgun kills by baiting people, so I’m not asking for a nerf, but they could be nudged.

              • I honnestly think scavenger perks is the biggest problem with shotguns, i think if you toned down how much ammo it gives you it would make them less consistantly available. The amount of games where i glance at my shotgun ammo and its sitting at like 15-16 shots is actually dumb.

                • Do you guys done some test after Shotty nerf? Ive done some test. I used Retold Tale and Toil & Trouble. Both has Full Choke and Full Auto. I can see the difference. Ive failed to kill guardian in the usual optimal range when using Retold Tale. After a shot, it left them with a bit of HP, around 10 maybe. This occurs several times. With Toil & Trouble its different though. Ive no problem OHKOing guardians, but in shorter range. Maybe the impact level helps with the OHKO.

                  • Sidearms, Traces, Fusions, and Snipers need buffed. Sidearms especially.

                  • Meh. Primaries are much weaker than D1 especially when considering body shot damage. Buff that and dealing with shotguns will be easier. Then again- I suggest keeping distance and minding choke and potential ambush points.

                  • Nerfs in D1 did not put shotguns in a good place. By the end of D1 shotguns were garbage.

The full Autos do less damage. When you see the kill feeds you need to prepare better for the rush.

                        Fusion rifles have more range than shotguns Any weapon can shoot after sprinting. Not sure what you're talking about stop lying

                          Outrange SMGs? They are already close range... Fusions? Funny. And it does have a wait. It depends on the handling speed of the weapon. And it’s a full -blam!-ing auto rapid frame compared to 2 charge up shots of a fusion...

                          • The only good shotguns are the slug shotguns and the dust rock blues — which may as well be the new felwinter’s lie. The rapid frames have some ammo economy problems so it balances out I think. They’re pretty inconsistent too, as I have gotten a 1hk from 5m away on one guardian, then the next only has his shields stripped at nearly point blank. Precision frame is the real deal though, getting 1hk at nearly 10m. I will say, though, that in my experience only the highest impact fusion rifle is worth using in the crucible. They have incredible 1hk range and don’t require too many pellets to hit for a kill. Precision frame (main ingredient) is pretty good too, if you get a good roll with high impact rounds. Anything that charges faster than those two categories of fusion rifle takes so many pellets to kill that it’s, imo, too likely to leave an enemy with a sliver of health (or more) after a charge because of a missed pellet. So I think it would be nice if fusions got a buff, maybe a small knock back effect on body shots, and concussion effect on headshots. Then, at least if you don’t kill them, you counter their shotgun and aren’t forced to use telesto for a consistent fusion rifle experience.
