The Malfeasance quest teaches you how to play Gambit smarter.

I just finished the Malfeasance quest and I wish the quest was a lot more common because it does a good job of teaching you how to be more successful and win more matches by banking in smaller batches and more frequently. Best tips I can give especially for solo players are as follows. Bank small and Bank often - Getting caught in a bad situation with a large number of motes is the worst thing you can do for your team. Carrying few motes and banking often is #1 thing you can do to improve your game, and there are so many reasons why this is the best strategy for most solo players. -- You should be banking every time the zone changes, yes even if you have 9 or 14 motes, because losing motes and the chance this will happen outweighs the benefit you get from sending a blocker one level higher. The exception to this is if you have fewer than 5 motes (unless it's primeval time then get to the bank NOW!!!) -- Getting to 25 motes, and first invasion before your opponent can set your team up for an early lead. It can't be understated that getting your early motes banked as quickly as possible so you can send an invader while the opponents bank is blocked can easily make or break a game. Get them banked early and get an invader in there to get some early kills while they're still holding all their motes from the first zone. -- Sending small blockers (Phalanx) is as good or better than sending Knights or Ogres. -- Phalanx, though lesser in health, have a smaller hit box than Medium or Large Blockers due to their shield. As such they often take just as long to take down as Knights or Ogres, due to needing to maneuver and deal with their "Shield Boop" attack. -- Knights and Ogres are often easier to deal with than Phalanx if you're using an Ikelos Shotty which is the meta right now. -- Add to this the fact that you can send 2x as many as Knights and 3x as many as Ogres and you get a situation where you can swarm them and keep them down for longer periods forcing them to burn heavy or supers to clear the mob. -- Banking every time you get to around 5 motes means frequent trips to the bank. If you have 5 or fewer motes it's not a huge risk if you need to clear blockers before depositing. Additionally you're doing a service for the rest of your team by keeping the other team blocked and keeping your bank clear which is a huge benefit. -- Holding 0-5 motes means you can be more aggressive toward invaders. If you have 0 motes, you are now a human meat shield. Get after them and protect your teammates who are still holding motes. There is a special place in hell for anyone who hides from invaders while holding zero motes. Invading - Invade only under the following circumstances. -- It makes sense strategically to invade. This means that either A) the other team has a huge amount of unbanked motes (gray area of their bar), or B) their primeval is starting to take damage. -- You are not carrying any motes. For every mote you carry with you into an invasion, god will kill a puppy. -- You have heavy ammo. Don't go into a 4v1 even with wall hack, without giving yourself an offensive advantage. -- You preferably have a super. Are they grouped up hiding in their spawn? Good go hit them with a super and save your heavy ammo for boss DPS. Classes - These are in order of PvE and add clearing effectiveness. Yes, you need to be prepared for PvP for invasions -- Titan - Striker - Top or Middle Tree - Skullfort - Use unlimited smash/shoulder charge to keep your health up at all times and clear huge groups of ads. This is my #1 choice for running solo, and ran this for the entire Malfeasance quest. I can easily clear 75-100 kills and bank nearly as many motes. Smash, collect, bank, repat. No hiding and never stop moving. -- Warlock - Stomcaller - Bottom Tree - Crown of Tempests - I also like to pair this with Riskrunner for reasons described below. Gives good add clearing capability and with crown of tempests you get frequent abilities. -- Warlock - Well of Radiance - Always a good choice for team healing, damage etc. Helps keep your team alive at the expense of add clearing potential. -- Hunter - Tether - Top Tree - Orpheus Rig - Good for all the usual reasons. Make orbs for everyone else. -- Hunter - Arc Strider - Dealer's choice - Raiden Flux - Good for all the usual reasons. -- Hunter - Solar Knives - Ophidia Spathe / Shards - Good for lots of knives and generally well rounded for add clearing. Loadouts -- Obviously Pulse (Bygones, Go Figure, etc), Ikelos Shotty, and Sleeper is the meta. Nothing wrong with this load-out and definitely endorse the utility of it as an all around load-out. Alternatives to consider. -- Riskrunner - Probably the best non-power add clearing weapon in the game right now if you can proc Arc Conductor. Some adds don't deal arc damage so best to either use it against Hive/Fallen or paired with Stormcaller/Striker so you can self-proc with Pulse Grenades. If you have the catalyst you will create massive amounts of orbs. -- Colony - Really? Yes Really. Before you give me all the reasons why Sleeper is better, hear me out. 1. People aren't expecting it, they're expecting you to hide and pick them off with sleeper so they hide. Colony doesn't care if you're hiding. In fact if you want to trap yourself in a corner or a cave it just makes it easier for the bugs to find you. 2. Even if the bugs don't get them, you're going to flush them out of cover in most cases and can then pick them off or close the distance with a super while they're all jumping around. 3. With a couple bricks of ammo you can invade and spam 8 shots (with catalyst) in their general direction and are almost guaranteed 2-3 kills with no skill and without ever breaking cover. Using this method I've gotten more team wipes than with Sleeper including the one I needed for the Malfeasance quest final step. Incidentally I've also gotten more hate-mail for using this method than sleeper, which further tells me people aren't expecting it.

  • I like to deposit 5 motes at a time so that when I inevitably get one shotted from across the map by some sleeper using -blam!- I don’t have to worry as much. On a side note: if you use the sleeper in gambit to invade go -blam!- yourself, seriously, burn in hell you crutch using pussys.

  • I like to bank 15 motes every time. Even if we only need 1 mote to summon the primeval. No exceptions If our bank is blocked by multiple enemies, I throw a single grenade and make my teammates take care of the rest while I snag up every mote I can I also like to challenge an invader with my trusty sniper rifle, no matter how many motes I’m holding When I invade, I only bring a sniper rifle with half a mag and my tigerspite. No rocket ammo. I make sure I have at least 10 motes on me for added protection. I invade right away even if the enemy team isn’t holding any motes. I like to kick them when they’re down, remind them why they call me.... “big torta”. It works every time I save my super for the entire game and only use it on the boss. I don’t even bother taking out the adds surrounding the boss, I go straight for the big game

    • by all accounts from everyone who has it on my friends list, the quest forced them to be ultra selfish about motes, invasions, and guardians kills.

    • No one ever assigns a goalie. I play goalie in all Gambit matches. I.E. stay near the middle and kill adds in the wave while your team gets the motes, then clear all blockers as they come so your team can bank care free. As soon as I started doing this in my solo games I started winning much more often.

      • Or if your good with a sniper there’s no need to waste your super or heavy. I’ve gotten plenty of team wipes with just a sniper and hand cannon.

      • op please ad, KILL THE WITCHES BEFORE UNLOADING ON THE PRIME. I cant tall you how many blueberries do not take care of the witches, burn the supers and don't have the buff the witches provide. The opposition then easily beats us as they are coordinated and understand the mechanic.

          • Biggest pet peeve is when we have enough ones for primeval but the guy who has them is clearly trying for 15. Absolutely infuriating being at 72 with a 12 mote guardian still running around.

            • My team: Member1 - 5 motes = Bank and Clears Blockers w/ Trace Rifle/R-Launcher w/ Cluster bomb/Edge Transit Member2 - 5 motes = Bank and invade w/ Colony/Linear F Rifle(Headshot = kill/ 2 shot body kill) Member3 - 5 motes = Bank and Trace rifle weaker adds. Member4 - 10 motes = Bank and Melt orange/Yellow bar mobs for a quick stack of motes. Winning depends on how well each member does, how bad the other team are at invading, and if we all had energy drinks. Small blockers to keep them busy, and medium blocker to chew through their ammo. Ammo is near impossible to obtain once you summon your primeval since you're supposed to solely focus on it as well as not dying to heal it. I was created to shoot things, and so I shall. There is literally no downside to dying to an invader while holding zero motes in the banking phase. If someone invades and I'm not carrying motes, I go on the offensive. Even if he kills me, he'll have revealed his position to my teammates (or if I'm playing with friends I've told them where he is) and they can either finish him off or stay safe. According to the Gambit stats site someone else posted here, I have 223 guardian kills in Gambit. I have NEVER invaded. That's all kills and assists on invaders. Don't be afraid to press the invader. That overshield isn't as durable as the regular shield. You can still one-shot them with a sniper crit or two-shot them with a shotgun.

Gamers know how to play Gambit smarter. They don't because of the stupid Drifter bounties that forces gamers to play for bounties, not for the win. If you completed bounties daily, you'd know this.

                • fought a team last night that that kept sending phalanx over. My team didn't stop to help clear the bank. I burned heavy clearing 2, lost my motes as the other 3 got me, and then an invader came in and killed my team as they dealt with the phalanx (by this time, they had banked more motes and there was like 6 or 7 phalanx just hangout). It got to 50 to 0 real quick, and one random left. :| It was at that moment that I decided to always bank at 5, unless I'm completing a bounty.
