Well... this happened to me...
Yeah yeah yeah I know I don’t have job experience and if I didn’t have so much school and sports I’d take it just to get experience, but I still find it funny. So what was your guy’s first job?

My parents wouldn't buy me an original NES because they said it was a fad and would disappear in a year or two. So I saved birthday and Christmas money with the yardwork and bought my own. Then I got a paper route to help supplement my games, slurpees, Transformers, comic books and VHS rentals. First legit job with taxes and stuff was Taco Bell which I left after seeing my 1st paycheck.

3 RepliesWhen i was 12 i started to mow grass, landscape, wash cars etc etc. When I turned 15, I got a job at a restaurant. Have had a full time job since I was 17, sometimes 2 full time jobs.

1 ReplyMcDonald's is actually a good place for young people to start learning what a job is. The responsibility, the disappointment in that small paycheck, taxes, working around some people who are difficult to work with... You don't have to live there. Just learn and move on when you are able. I worked at one when I was 16, for about a year until I grew to really dislike it. Previously I worked with my Dad in his trucking and agricultural company since I was 8. Yes 8. I thought McDonalds would get me away from all the heavy work. Come to find out, the heavy work was more rewarding and taught me so many more areas of mechanical, building, maintenance, working with a broader range of people, all of which I still retain today. McDonald's wasn't a terrible experience, but it took away from what previously was my free time to go out with friends. Ended up helping Dad a couple more years, until college. I was paid, and was given my first couple of cars as reimbursement.

2 RepliesDon't do that to yourself! Get a job at an ice cream store. Food prep is much easier and the customers are generally more happy.

3 RepliesI had my own business doing yard work, building porches and coating mobile home rooves. I could not handle the stress and let it crash and burn. I started it at age 10 and I had so much work by the time I was 14, I had to hire people to work for me. I hired people that were older than me and I was constantly being told how I was not running the business correctly and it drove me nuts.

1 ReplyNot the best place, but it's a start. Develop a good attitude even with extremely annoying customers. That'll help when you're finally old enough to serve at a restaurant that has alcohol. That's where you'll make the most with the least experience. Particularly when you're trying to pay for college or something like a trade school. BUT. If you find you can't handle a job at McDonald's straight away that's fine take your time and get ahold of the ropes. If after a period of months you find that you're still struggling maybe food and service isn't the best way for you personally to start. However, for the love of all things holy, don't think because you haven't been fired mean you're competent or even remotely "good at your job". Many employees seem to have this attitude when the sole reason for this may be a place being understaffed or sheer unavailability of workers for a particular day. [spoiler]Ok, maybe this last bit was me venting a bit about my personal experience but it doesn't change the likelyhood of encountering someone like this. Anywho, good luck![/spoiler]
