I've been going through cutscenes, looking for all the Hungarian phrases spoken by my favorite character, Jorge.
In the scene, when he boards the Pelican, and he looks down to see Reach being burned, he says the words "Megszakad a szivem..."
This, in English, means "It breaks my heart..."
Poor Jorge. No wonder he said it in Hungarian, he didn't want anyone to know he had emotions. My Noble 6 felt the same way.
NOTE: Il be making a thread with all Hungarian to English translations if I have time.
MISC TRANSLATIONS
Jorge: I've got a live one over here! Come on, out you come...
Sara: [Unintelligible, sorry guys. My Hungarian is very limited.]
Jorge: It's alright, were not gonna hurt you!
Carter: Jorge-
Jorge: I've got her. Keep still, and il release you.
Sara: Meg... Itt vannak. (There are more...)
Jorge is late to react to what she says. She was hiding, from the Zealots. She knew they were there. She fought for her life to get back to her hiding spot.
Jorge puts his hand on Sara's arm to let her know he is human, to comfort her. She pushes him away, mad that they were too late to save her father. Emile is amused at Jorge's attempt to comfort the young girl.
Jorge: Whats your name?
*No response.*
Do you live around here?
*Still, silence. Jorge removes his helmet to reassure that the girl that he is human, and feels empathy.*
Jorge: A nevem Jorge. (My name is Jorge.)
Sara: Sara...
Jorge: Sara... Szep, hatarozott nev. (Sara... A nice, strong name.)
Jorge: You accent sounds familiar. Sopron?
Sara: Tengeri... (This actually means "Marine" if I remember correctly.)
Jorge: Friend of yours?
Sara: Father.
Jorge: Sajnalom. (Sorry) Im sorry.
Sara: Why would you be?
Yeah some people actually view the spartans more like monsters then men. The ODST's actually hate spartans mostly, because they believe they can achieve the same feats as spartans without amplification. Also some spartans have faced both human and alien enemies, they were forced to fight rebels too. So some spartans might view all the other civilians as their enemy.

I have the German version of the game and they also speak in Hungarian. I did know because I set my console on English and then the yellow subtitle displays that they were speaking in [Hungarian].
Posted by: Vetto To be fair Most Spartan 2 have allot of emotion Chief is just a very rare case, Chief at a very young age grasped what he was being made into he has become what the I like to call a "silent hope". He may not voice it allot but he want to be there to save who ever he can but he also understand war a cold place all he can do is try and be there for who he can. And this is coming form a guy who dislike Master chief but at least the journal gave me some insight why he the way he is. Also on the same note Jorge is a prime example of why Spartan 3 are a mistake, Out of all of noble team he was the most level headed and understanding of people. Also while people loved Emile he also a key example of Why S3 are a bad idea, I have a strong feeling if he had not died he would of been one of the S3 to start to get "god" syndrome. Which goes to show True Spartans are born not made.
Jorge was a spartan II

The reason these spartan III's are on Reach and have Mjolnir armor is because they would have been within the spartan II's original parameters and kurt thought they where to valuable to be sent on suicide missions Oh and wicked translation I was wondering what he said! thanks [Edited on 11.16.2010 2:42 AM PST]

Thanks. Got directed here after starting a thread on the same topic.

Thank you so much for this. I was wondering what these lines meant.

Nice thread OP. Not like I haven't seen this before on youtube word for word. Very original.
-
Thanks for this. But what about that first farmer at the start of Winter Contingency? The guy Emile was ready to shoot?
-
well actually it takes place directly before halo one. and they are sparten 3s wearing mk5 mjiolner armor. george is a sparten 2 wearing mk4 armor so his armor dosnt have shield upgrades which is what the thing on his chest is. a shield generator. hmm I seem to be getting of topic. I just came for his space jump quate but hey Im just glad my supior guessing skills got alot of winters hungarian quotes right [Edited on 11.16.2010 12:45 AM PST]

Good thread, came here to find out the translation for the bit where Jorge jumps to the pelican in space but got a lot more than that. Well actually to be fair I didn't get that but still good, on that note I think what he says is "megszakad a szivem" which translates to "It breaks my heart" if google is to be believed.
-
Wow, nicely done!
-
Thanks for the translation. Also, have you tried using the sub-titles to help with the first bit?

Will57ishere | Member | more groups | message user Posted by: Cumbersome George is like Santa. You know with out the armor.. :) Also without the machine gun, or removed turret (or at least I hope so). Just curiouse, what did Emile mean exactly by "He forgets who he is sometimes" (or something like that). I mean, I know the Spartans (as well as the rest of the army), and civilianz were not exactly freindly to one another, but it just didn't seem to make sense that much, could anyone clear this up at all? 09.24.2010 8:15 PM PDT I took from this dialog: Emile meant Jorge forgets he's Spartan and that locals (separatists) do not appreciate the Spartans. Hey guys, I'm Hungarian :D So if you have any other stuff which needs translation, I could do that. I noticed, that on Winter Contingency those men you find in the house are Hungarian too :) I'll try to translate that stuff. A small fix for dumdum's translation: Jorge: I've got a live one over here! Come on, out you come... Sara: Let meg go, let me get out of here! Hey! Jorge: It's alright, were not gonna hurt you! Carter: Jorge- Jorge: I've got her. Keep still, and il release you. Sara: Meg... Itt vannak. (They are still here...) Jorge is late to react to what she says. She was hiding, from the Zealots. She knew they were there. She fought for her life to get back to her hiding spot. Jorge puts his hand on Sara's arm to let her know he is human, to comfort her. Jorge: Whats your name? *No response.* Do you live around here? *Still, silence. Jorge removes his helmet to reassure that the girl that he is human, and feels empathy.* Jorge: A nevem Jorge. (My name is Jorge.) Sara: Sara... Jorge: Sara... Szep, hatarozott nev. (Sara... A nice, strong name.) Jorge: You accent sounds familiar. Sopron? Sara: Tengeri... (Tenger means sea, this would be something like She lived by the sea.) Jorge: Friend of yours? Sara: Father. Jorge: Sajnalom. (Sorry) Im sorry. Sara: Why would you be?
Posted by: Yourm0md07c0m in winter contingency isnt sorvads daughter saying "they're still here"?
That would make sense actually. Right after she says that you see Jorge stiffen and then duck over her right as the field marshall drops down. Personally, I kinda felt Noble Six connected with Jorge the most, then Emile somewhat.
-
Posted by: EpicCheetos Jorge reminded me of the Heavy in TF2. Like a big stuffed bear, but with a huge minigun.
I was just waiting for someone to say this. Also, Hungarian sort of sounds a little similar to Russian.
-
Thanks for the explanation, thought it was something like that, but expected there to be a bit more of a reason, that's all.
Posted by: Vetto
Posted by: flamedude Being friendly and compassionate isn't a required quality in a Spartan. So yes remembering your in the end human is part of being a skilled warrior.
What are you talking about? Spartan-IIIs were involved in many many operations, including game-changing suicide operations like TORPEDO. Spartan-IIs were critical to winning the war, but so were the Spartan-IIIs (and ODSTs, Marines, Army, AIs and so on). Spartan-IIIs endured the same intensity of training as Spartan-IIs, they were trained by a Spartan-II for goodness sakes, and the only difference was their slightly less perfect genetic background and their inferior SPI armour (for the suicide missions). If it wasnt for Noble Six, a Spartan III, Cortana would not have got back to her other half, the PoA wouldnt have found the first Halo and the Covenant would not have broken when the Elite commander became the Arbiter and found out the truth. Noble Six is literally the catalyst that began the fall of the Covenant and the reason humanity was not wiped out.
Posted by: Vetto Umm, Spartan 3 rarely got off of reach, Spartan 2 are really who won the war
S-III's were based on Onyx.
